has anyone made it out to the 2012 motorcycle show?

Rode to the show on my bike today via the QEW and Parked in the reserved motorcycle parking. :) Stop by the GTA booth and spoke to the folks there.
Great way to spend the afternoon!
Also Enjoyed the ride ride along lakeshore back to Oakville. (QEW seem backed up)

Hope I will also be able to ride to the Janaury show!

Nice, I hope I can ride in January too:)

Fun show :)

For me, the visual star of the show is the Moto Guzzi Griso 8V Special Edition....a thing of beauty, even though not generally my type of bike. Something about the impeccable style, the matte green paint combined with the tan saddle. Bellisimo!

+1 Squisito!

hey Rodney... I made it in your picture collage, I wonder if I'm in your video

Re: has anyone made it out to the 2012 motorcycle show?!!

Gladius was actually an option for me when I first saw it. I don't care about the advertising. it just seemed like a neat looking sv650 that was a rip of the monster. at the end of the day though, if I was going to drop 7-8k on something that looked like a monster, I'd get a used monster.

@Deimos
the NC has less HP than my ex500 on paper as well, but how that translates to street use may be different. our bikes aren't tuned machines so I know for mine, the powerband that you can feel is very narrow low, and then way up top. if I rev it that high ear drums will blow, so I never use it. the ex500 is rated at 60hp. the same as the ninja 650. however, I'd guess the gs and ex 500's feel more like 40hp compared to many of these bikes, they're not real numbers as far as I'm concerned. if the NC is geared for a fast take off where the HP is usable without having to hit 9000rpm, then I think it's ok, and might feel faster, might BE faster... either way.. how much does anyone need? I beat someone in a civic once that tried to race me. my life didn't get better. I lost once too. and I still have a kickass job and hot gf.

hell the v-strom 650 has the same hp as the ex500 and people don't seem to take issue with it. it's dissapointing,.. but I think they've aimed it to be a commuter bike with great mpg. so it is what it is.

Hoah man! When I first saw the neat features of the NC700, I fell in love too! Such an awesome, innovative concept. 450kms to a full tank, not too shabby!
Although, I'm not sure how to read BHP or how it'll translate to the road. NC700 + my '08 GS500 = 47 bhp. I'd def have to ride it myself to really feel it. YOu say it'll take off quicker on the lows?

I took the Gladius out on a demo ride...not what I expected. It felt really underpowered and riding 80+ really put a strain on keeping myself upright due to the wind. Although, I'm sure it'd make a fantastic 2nd bike for someone who wants an up from a 125/250.

I'm really looking at the FZ800. IT"S ABSOLUTE SEX!! It's def a contender to the NC700, but I fell I'd have a lot more fun on the FZ800. Took that out too on a demo ride and it felt EXACTLY how a motorcycle should feel. Def get a chance to experience it yourself. Pricing at 11k, I'd be more than happy to pick it up on my 25th bday =D

The best semi-stock (jets and filters, no real engine work) gs500 dyno runs rarely see more than 38 hp, most of that fairly high up in the rpm range. I rarely rode above 7km rpm myself due to excessive vibes, so I was MAYBE seeing 30 hp. Never had a real problem with normal street use. The NC700 will undoubtedly be more powerful and tractable overall. The ex and gs engines are reliable, but old tech.

Man, if you think the FZ800 is the pinnacle of motorcycle design, my Tuono would scare you witless. :lmao:

For optimum power on my 2010 GS500F I use Ultra 94 gas and Mobile 10w - 40 synth0tic oil. I notice on mine the power comes on strong between 6K and 10tK. I like to shift at around 7500k. I do not notice much buzz on my bike with 8500K on it.

Also, test road both the SV650 and FZ8 and perfered the FZ8. Power on FZ8 put a smile on my face since I found power from 3K right up to the red line easly balance at a stop and it corners real well. Also noticed Riders plus insures the bike. quoted me $659 a year for liability only. It is definately on my short list of bike to upgrade Cannot wait to test ride the new Honda 700 with its unique storage trunk to store helment and gas filler opening under the seat. It should also handle very well with the low center of gravity.

So little knowledge of motorcycles on this forum. Aprilia Mana has helmet storage where most bikes have a tank and the filler is back by the seat (or underneath, can't remember) - since... 2009?

The SV650 is *not* underpowered or a bad bike, although it is built to a budget. I sold mine because of that years ago, but let's face it... they clean up on just about anything with the right rider on them. At Shannonville you have to really wring a R6's neck to get much time on a good rider with a SV650. Tractable, predictable power and excellent grip make them way faster than people give them credit for. But sure, a FZ8 is built to a higher price point and definitely does have more power. That said, the FZ800 makes as much power at 8000 rpm as the old carbeurated FZ1 had just off idle, seems to me, and they both weigh about the same. If that's the bike you want, the old carb'd FZ1 is better, lots stronger, more practical and probably cheaper to insure, too.

Thanks for pix of show. What the hell was that BMW scooter? looks so ugly from the front. like they forgot to add in some plastics
up front. As for your bike show, it is held in downtown Toronto? if so, wish our bike show was in a similar place. The Vancouver bike show
is last week of January. but its out in Abbotsford for cripes sake. for those that are not familiar, that is like having the Toronto bike show in
Barrie. Of the last 4 yrs i only been out once because the weather is not so nice. Tends to be colder and snowier out that a way.

BMW certainly has the occasional styling miscue. Back when the R1100RT was released one of my friends on this board coined the phrase, "Fairing designed in a wind tunnel, by the finest German engineers. Tail designed by Helga, in the commissary."

I think that people can be forgiven for not having intimate knowledge of a bike that they'd be hard pressed to find in a showroom, let alone ever see on the street.

I suppose, but there was more than one direct comparison a page or two back. Then there's the subject of the FZ8, which is essentially a re-sleeved FZ1. All the weight, 20% less power.

I think you need to re-think your comparison table. NC700 to FZ8 is apples to melons. The only similarity might be a price (if Honda will keep their word and keep the price under 10K for the base model), everything else is very different. Both bikes very built for completely different rider and purpose in mind. I always tell people make sure first you know what kind of rider you are or want to be, before getting into which bike to buy (I have a friend who was flip-flopping between Harley and Aprilia Dorsoduro ... and he was killing me every day with different questions).

NC700 is nice ... for a longer distance commuter, so you can benefit the fuel consumption and space for things you need to take with you. FZ8 is a complete opposite, fun factor is there (NC700 not so much of it with 40 horses, heavy weight and 6500 red line; there's a review out there on the net and the guy was rev limiting it all the time as it requires a totally different riding ... and tons of shifting, especially in the city which was surprising to read, because you'd think they would shoot for wide band torque), you can certainly commute on it, but it will cost you more in gas and you will need a tank bag, back pack or something to carry things you need ...

Thank you "RodneyBR"
Just bought the bike at 5:21 Carbon Red.
Nice pictures.
Much appreciated.

I went expecting to like the F3 or Panigale the most, but came away wanting the 848 Evo. The wife really liked the Max Biaggi Aprilia scooter.
