Great Documentaries?

The first part of the documentary wasn't debunked, or at least most of it wasn't. Only if you subscribe to "TEH BIBLE TOLD ME DIFFERENT" as an argument can you say it was all debunked.

And you have as much evidence to support this claim as the authors of Zeitgeist, I'm guessing...

I'll second What the Bleep Do We Know, but it's not a true documentary.

No offense to anyone, but I watched the first half or so of that movie, and it was the biggest pile of nonsensical garbage I've ever seen. Not exaggerating.

As for good documentaries, not sure if I've posted, but

Taxi to the Dark Side
Bus 174
Hands on a Hard Body
Man on Wire

Michale Jackson's This is it. Only if you have a good sound system tho. But regardless, its still good!

Man can that chick play the guitar!

Orianthi Panagaris

another

At 14, she sent demos of her electric playing to Santana, along with a biography and some classical guitar pieces. To Orianthi's surprise, when Santana was next in Adelaide she received a personal invitation asking her to come down to soundcheck and bring her guitar. She ended up playing on-stage with Santana.

I had the pleasure of watching the whole thing  Pretty brutal.
Funfact: It was made by a bunch of kids from "Ramtha's School of Enlightenment." Feel free to do a bit of reading on that.

Solo -- Doc of a kayaker who's obsession was constantly pushing limits and being the first to solo paddle from Australia to New Zealand. FYI the Tasman Sea is regarded as one of the most dangerous stretches of ocean in the world, his body was never found but they found his boat and all the self-shot footage.

Found another one: Human Planet by BBC. It's like planet earth, but instead of nature, it goes around the world showing you how different cultures live.

Here's the first episode if anyone's interested: http://stagevu.com/video/qcatabeefjtl

And thanks for all the suggestions. I got through most of them. As always, more are welcome since I have a bit more time in the summer to actually do the things I'd like to do. I wish I had the time to watch every single BBC documentary...

Also, does anyone have a link to the bridge? I've tried maybe 5 different downloads now and they all die due to lack of seeders : /. I hear this one's so sad that a lot of people can't watch it in one go

How the hell did I miss this thread??? Damn.

Since I subscribed to Netflix about two months ago, I have basically watched nothing but docs when I'm not watching tv with the wife. I'll read through here and see if anyone missed a few I've watched lately.

I highly recommend Netflix for everyone though. For 8$ a month you just can't beat the value, and I know they don't have the best selection here just yet.

Inside job - about financial crisis

Some not mentioned

Big River Man! (Seriously watch this)
Grizzly Man
Good Hair
Manufactured Landscapes
BritTown (awesome bike doc)
Hells Angels Forever
Children Underground (Disturbing)

And +1 for The Money Masters. Money as Debt Also.

And Re: Zeitgeist - I think all the Zeitgeist movies were excellent - specifically because they blend truth, conspiracy, and fiction in a way that cant help but breed thought and discussion. I think they would be less impressive if they were indeed wholly accurate or realistic. I really enjoy those movies.

some animal and conservation related ones:
sharkwater (canadian documentary talking about sharks, the negative stigma surrounding them and how they're being hunted to extinction)
the cove (talks about the annual dolphin hunt in japan that gets covered up by officials)
the end of the line (talks about the unsustainable nature of our fishing industries)

food and foodways related one:
food, inc. (great documentary that talks about our food, where it comes from, how it gets to you, and all the other secrets that make you think again about what you eat)
