Great Documentaries?

Best movie I've seen all year.

are you talking about the theatrical version (about 100 mins), or the long version about (160 mins)?

I'm trying to get my hands on the theatrical version, without much luck.

I saw it at an independent cinema and it was 1h 45 min. No idea which version but it was damn good.

Saw a documentary called "Mother of Rock: Lillian Roxon" (2010). It's about Lillian Roxon, the Australian journalist that for all intent invented Rock Journalism. It was very good. One highlight was a quip in an interview with Iggy Pop talking about the K Club in NYC. He said the people that went there were extremely weird. Coming from Iggy, it was quite amusing.

Wicked to the max.

Not to be confused with Lords of Dogtown, the movie based on this documentary.

^^ Agreed.

Has anyone watched 'Blue Gold'? I keep seeing it in the listings on Netflix... I think it'll be my next doc to watch :) Haven't talked to anyone that's seen it though.

Thanks to everyone for keeping this going :D

I found a new (but old) one. Discovery channel's "Human Body: Pushing the Limits". It covers how we push our bodies to the limits in 4 episodes: strength, sight, brainpower, & sensation"

Here's a segment on dreaming:

Probably been mentioned already but I just watched The Cove the other day. Sad movie about the dolphin slaughter/amusement industry. Similar to shark water. Good movie though, you can stream the whole thing from cbc website.

Man can that chick play the guitar!

Orianthi Panagaris

another

At 14, she sent demos of her electric playing to Santana, along with a biography and some classical guitar pieces. To Orianthi's surprise, when Santana was next in Adelaide she received a personal invitation asking her to come down to soundcheck and bring her guitar. She ended up playing on-stage with Santana.

Yes, she is ridiculous good.

For the music fans:

It Might Get Loud (documentary about electric guitar playing, featuring Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White)
Herbie Hancock: Possibilities (available on Netflix)

saw "senna" at the landmark sunshine theatre in nyc in august, with q&a by the director afterwards. . .

re-watched it off torrents a few weeks later. . .the theatrical version is superior, imho.

solid pick, and the story is told with a lot of love for senna. . .

highly recommended
