Flip plate

lol

lemme guess, you or someone you know got a ticket for this, therefore it is the law eh?

plenty of border line retarded cops out there who themselves don't understand the law.

Every cop knows what a flip plate is.

Ever been pulled over, it's the first thing they look for.

Twice in the past *during a routine stop* hehe ;) they have found it, i tell them straight up what i use it's for, the 407 not for running. Been asked to remove it or receive a ticket.

Sorry, i am not accustomed to seeing illegal stuff being openly sold on Kijiji. I was thinking it might be a trap....Ah well.

did you really just say that???

what do you think kijiji is for lol!

remember craiglist and prostitution? imagine how much stolen goods are floating around kijiji...

Also incorrect. The wording of the law is fairly clear. If the plate is mounted on a hinge it is not mounted such that the plate is legible at all times.

Maybe if it was loose and flapping then you'd have a point.

The law is written in such a way that it says it must be visible. Now whether its mounted with a zip tie, super glued or mounted to a bracket with a hinge doesn't matter according to the law.

read the whole bit. visible AT ALL TIMES.

Just because you don't understand what's going on, doesn't make it less valid or any more legal.

because of all the amazing back and forth in this thread, someone is going to coincidentally get pulled over, plate hinge will be seen, cop will verify that it's ok cuz you have no intent to use it, and will get off.

You guys do understand that you have to break the law before receiving a ticket right?

My car license plate is attached to my trunk, like most plates on passenger cars are. Yet as im driving i can press a button, release the trunk and like magic it pops up and you can no longer see the plate. You see it too is attached to something that has the ability to flip up. Yet no one here got a ticket for that unless you're drinving around with the trunk up and plate not visible.

Just because you have the ability to do something doesn't make it illegal. Unless its possession is prohibited, in this case it is not.

^^ Exactly!

It really is a universal mounting bracket. If someone uses it otherwise, they can be subject to the consequences for breaking the law.

This.

Doesnt matter if it's on the bike.. as long as you're not using it. I could need it for flipping my plate up if I decided to goto L&L or Kennedy commons..one less thing to identify your bike by in a parking lot which certainly has some thieves lurking.

I'm surprised at the number of self admitted thieves there are stealing from the 407. There are plenty of free roads in the province that you can use without having to steal. As a toll paying 407 user, I'm subsidizing your use.

Perhaps a reduction in rate per km's for two wheels and then everybody would be happy?

I don't disagree but it still doesn't justify theft. If it's too expensive use another route.

I gotta start using the 407 more often. I think hand over plate will do.

Just go superman style and use your foot to cover it.

I suppose it's open to interpretation and courtroom debate but I don't think that the hinge mount violates this law. "At all times" to me means that it must be visible any time you are operating the vehicle on public roads. This particular "flip plate" is designed to stay visible while protecting the plate from damage due to contact with the fender or wheel. One might even argue that it keeps the plate in good shape as per the conditions of leasing the plate in the first place.

Thanks! :D JK, I've never been on the 407 with my bike.

Potential is an understatement. The sole purpose of a flip plate is to flip, and subsequently, hide the plate.

Untrue. This isn't a flip plate. It's an impact absorbing tag mount designed NOT to be flipped up permanently. There's actually a spring providing counter-force to keep it DOWN. Placement, however, is a different issue.

riding the shoulder as close to the concrete barrier as possible works, or just blasting through at 200+ seems to do the trick

or at least that what I overheard someone say at a meet once

I'm FAIRLY certain a Justice of the Peace would be able to differentiate between a plate being mounted to the trunk of your car, and a plate on a hinge mounted on the ***-end of your bike.

Okay, perhaps that's true for this particular item in question. However, I said "a flip plate", which seemed to be topic of discussion. I hadn't taken a close look at the item in the ad; my mistake.

I still stand by my comment on actual flip plates, though :p

Fair enough, I just thought you were referring to the OP like everyone else. I agree with you in that case :)
