Yellowknife could be a disaster, but knowing that most would pile into the back of whatever 5 ton truck could get them outta town .
My daughter was in the Ft MacMurray fire , roads south were burning , next stop 200kms north to Ft Chipawa. Total # of charging stations in Ft Chip ? Zero. When opportunity came to get out of Ft Chip , it was 200kms back , no stopping in Ft Mac, straight through to LaBiche, another 200kms. You'd be leaving the EV and hope insurance covered it.
 
There is no comparison between the battery pack in a bought-for-being-cheapest electric scooter and the one in a properly built EV with a proper BMS, proper build quality, and proper thermal management.

Stuff that arrives on your doorstep from somewhere across the world has no manufacturer that can be held liable for any faults, no documentation of compliance with standards, and the manufacturer doesn't care about anything other than receiving your payment from the overseas online retailer. And then ... stuff like that happens.
 
I feelings on e bikes , China / India specials . Once again CSA will make you jump through hoops for a toaster or electric drill . No apparent regulation on this crap .
And to keep it from being stolen you bring it into your apartment or porch or garage. And wait for a fire .

You can get CSA certified e-bikes out of China/India. You just have to check the CSA Sticker box on your build sheet/order. It's about 25¢ extra.
 
So my brother , vice president and national sales manager of an international tool and machinery company gets a call from a dealer in Oshawa , your compressors in our store have CSA stickers , but a spot check from CSA says “ not our sticker” . Factory in China was skipping the part where you pay the inspection fee in China and putting fake stickers on equipment. Two containers worth of compressors all needed recertification . So yeah, it’s a thing .

Was having some issues with inclusions in Tungsten parts, customer supplied stock. Beam apertures, so it was affecting the spread/pattern. Conversation goes......

It's certified 99.9% pure Tungsten.
Where is the material coming from?

Your certification was done by one of the company's secretaries in Word. It's worthless. You don't need to be a metallurgist to see all the debris in the material and know it's not pure Tungsten. Try sourcing it out of Sweden from now on. It will be more money. You and I won't have this conversation about bad material any more, though.

I did not know tungsten was a cast material ! I learned something in here today

There was a story years back where a truck hauling rebar made a turn around in front of a nuclear facility triggering alarms. The problem started out in Mexico when someone junked a piece of medical equipment containing radioactive pellets. A scrap dealer recycled it and the recycled material ended up all over the place. IIRC the table bases were cast in Winnipeg.

The video is about 15 minutes but has some interesting comments.

The opening "Explosion" of an EV looks CGI to me but many other political and economic questions are raised.

One comment / speculation is in four years there will be over capacity in the battery and solar industry. Isn't that when the Ontario, government funded, foreign worker staffed plants are supposed to open?

Recycling is covered around 8:50 where you can see what happens when you put a Li-ion battery into a metal shredder.

 
Dunno. How many kwh is battery? What charge current/voltage can it accept? How long are you willing to leave the generator on?

The answers to those questions will help but I will be shocked if a 2kw generator doesn't charge it in less than 8 hours.

Mecatecno Dragonfly? Battery is 1.875 kWh. They say 2.5 hours to recharge. It looks like small battery size limits the rate so even a 1kW generator should be sufficient and you need to give it 2.5 hours. I would hope you get a 120V charger. Pics I have seen were 240V charger which would push you to a far larger generator (and just generally be a pain in the ass). Charger output is 760 watts. Charger input won't be grossly over that (definitely sub 1000 watts).
Looking at specs for the bike, a 1kw inverter in a car would charge it in 2.5 hrs.

My concern is 1.85kw battery will power that machine for 20 minutes at its nominal 6kw draw, or 10 min at full draw of 11kw.

How many minutes a day are you on the throttle?

That is bleeping scary. Flagrant false advertising (brutal modified sine wave and not pure sine wave as advertised). If it did put out 1200 watts continuous, input power is in the range of 100A. They give you a lighter plug which is good for 180 watts max (normally less) and alligator clips with what looks like 12 ga wiring which you may get 40A through. It would be a miracle if that "1200 watt" inverter puked out more than 500 watts.
Those little cheapie Chinese inverters run constant at about 40% of the wattage listed on the label. The output they claim is their momentary peak output, only available long enough to turn over a cap start motor.

You would need a 2500w version to get 1kw constant. I wouldn’t trust one.

I had Renogy 3kw units in my last boat, they would crank out 3kw off the alternators non stop, I could run 1kw output for about 1 hour on a marine 12v house battery.

That's a really tough question. Every trial is different. Usually we are contained to about 5 acres hopping in and out of creek beds.A trial lasts about 4 hours. Most of that time is spent walking the section, or waiting your turn. Every review I've seen says the Dragonfly lasts longer than the EM.

Pretty much my experience. The other problem on a lot of them and particularly the smaller ones, is that the fuse is inside the unit and a PITA to get at.

Is there a possibility of it sacking the Rav battery? Some cars have voltage limiters and shut off accessories if battery voltage drops close to cranking needs. It could be built into the inverter as well.

I will for sure look into it carefully. There are reasons why people use gennies.
 
Since the issues in the 80's radiation detectors are quite commonplace now in the scrap metal industry. At some point along the process, starting right as it comes onto the property in many cases, it's scanned for radiation. A lot of people just don't realize it.

Here's the scale at the Gerdeau scrapyard in Oshawa, for example. Those 2 vertical orange bars midway on the scale? Radiation detectors.
