Diesels in cold areas circulate engine heat through the fuel tanks, most have heaters over the fuel lines so heated fuel is recirculated back to the tank.

My kid runs an F250 service truck in Timmins,-30 is common, -40 happens occasionally, he has no trouble… and it’s a Ford!

The difference in darkness between my house and 15 minutes north is astounding. Most of our light pollution is Barrie. If you really want dark for the foreseeable future, you need to buy in one of the dark sky preserves.
I can see the barrie lights from my house near Baxter. But very nice at my property in Mattawa, get see the Northern lights as well as elon musk's star link heading up to space which is pretty cool, startling at first.

That was a couple of years ago at my place up north.

I’ve seen, but never photographed, several episodes while bobbing around in the middle of the night on Lake Simcoe.

I’ve seen them countless times while flying.

I have a relative in New Zealand that wants to see them but they make up their own mind when they occur and don’t consult with the cloud crowd.

They have a fairly regular season but for consistency you need to be very far north. Kid in LaBiche sees them often , 2 hrs north in FtMac , daughter sees them more often . You need to be a long way up for a regular show .
