don't argue wit stupid. it make u look stupod too"
I'm not sure if Dreamy Boom Boom is trying to look retarded or just joking............. I'm hoping it's all a joke.

This kinda **** has been going on for a long time... with the advent of technology people are actually being held accountable now. Sure some people are made out to be scape-goats ALA criminal #1... but sacrifices must be made for progress. Don't put yourself in that position and you won't be a sacrificial lamb.

I sure as hell wouldn't want my mom being harassed like that. Frankly I would fire any of my employees if they were sexually harassing people in or out of the work place.

As a business owner I would also do it to protect my company. I'm sorry but my company's reputation is worth more than harboring a "sexual harasser". Can you imagine the backlash if they didn't fire the guy? Hydro One would be flayed.........

For all you guys that don't own a business, and you think you know wouldn't fire the guy...... Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. The guy would have to be worth a lot to not get fired. Did the guys name from Cognex actually hit the newspaper? If the masses don't know his name.... maybe he's okay.

At the end of the day it's not about the company's policies, they are simply protecting their reputation.

Reporter is butt hurt that people interrupted her. If they didn't want this to happen, move further away from a large crowd of people and do the interview.

Other news broadcasts were going on and on about this. Oh good for you, standing up for yourself. Blah Blah Blah...

But as mentioned in posts before, she went to another group of guys in her man hating rage and provoked them.

At the end of it all people lost their jobs. They have bills to pay and now have to find work due to some POS reporter. She took a joke and made it worse. Shame on her for this.

If he was a model valuable employee he deserves a second chance., if he wasn't he should be fired. If he fails the second chance in any way he should be fired. This is fair and would put hydro one in a better position. The way they are doing it he will get a huge payout, learn nothing, have lots of fun taking a year or 2 off, everyone will forget and he will be rehired somewhere. What's the consequences for him? Nothing. And all you knee jerk reaction people will move onto the next story in 5 minutes and he will be sitting on a pile of money.
if he had a drug or alcohol problem he would be rehabilitated, if he had a mental problem he would be rehabilitated. And on and on. That is what his lawyer is going to argue and I'm sure there are examples at hydro one of worse on the job behaviour and the person wasn't fired. All this will lead to a huge settlement for him

So you are saying that it was her fault? Come'n.

At some point, people must own their own actions. A guy cannot keep saying forever "it was the beer" or "it was the POS reporter" or "gangsta rap made me do it". Sooner or later, it catches up with him.

If he works in an environment with females, his "fame" will poison that working environment no matter how valued he may have been prior to his media gala debut.

Hydro One can terminate his employment at very little cost. Statutory requirements for termination without cause can be as little as one week notice or pay in lieu of notice for every year of employment. Especially long term employees terminated without cause may be eligible for more based on their age at time of dismissal but this guy doesn't look all that old (or mature).

That's for termination without cause. Once an employer claims that termination is for cause, the rules change. No notice or pay in lieu of notice is required. In this one, Hydro One will probably just suspend him and give him the minimum pay required for termination without cause in order to forestall any legal action by the boor.

He will be looking at a few weeks of termination pay, not piles of money enabling him to have a year or two of leisure. Given his self-inflicted notoriety, and given that most employers these days will google the names of new job applicants as a matter of practice, he could easily find himself off work for quite some time. But it will be on his own dime, not Hydro One's.

I wouldn't say nothing. I agree with you one way, but in another way ... I would not take lightly that there's no consequence to follow, especially in today's interconnected world. Yes he might end up with a good settlement, but this will be on his "record", and many good companies will not take a chance on him for loooong time, risking their public scrutiny in the media etc.

Also, I obviously don't know him (except from his terrible TV 20sec performance), but this type of people is not exactly rare .... in another words, he didn't look like the kind who will learn from this or that his apology in the days to follow would be genuine, if you know what I mean.

Except being fired for sexual harassment follows you around. People may move onto new stories quickly, but they don't forget hes "the guy" that got fired for sexual harassment. I would hardly say he doesn't have any consequences. The Knee-Jerk reaction is precisely why Hydro One acted quickly. They wanted to get in-front of the PR, not steamrolled by it.

If Hydro one finds probable cause, he will be fighting an uphill battle. Hydro One is using this as free publicity. Obviously they ran the numbers, and found it to be more profitable to follow this route. They probably already factored settlements into their equation.... (Should he try to sue) **hint** he does not have much of a case. They could easily make a position that none of their female employees felt comfortable around him anymore.

How do you propose Hydro One tell people he's a model citizen and deserves a second chance? I can't foresee that going over well.

And once an HR person at a company types his name into Google.............

That's a myth I am going to say .... these settlements do not exist. A position with base 106K/year + bonus (I can imagine) is impossible to terminate without cause at "very little cost". I can also imagine, that his lawyer will do his best to contest "termination with cause".

Or it could also expose them (depending what they have or not have on this guy) .... kind of like JG and CBC .... which ending up costing some CBC's managers their jobs and didn't work exactly as free positive publicity for CBC.

HR Guy types "Shawn Simoes" into Google.

--> "Shawn Simoes Fired From Hydro One Job After Taunting"
--> "Toronto Sun confirms Hydro One has fired Shawn Simoes ..."
--> "Hydro One employee fired after FHRITP yelled at reporter ..."
--> "Hydro One firing employee involved in vulgar incident at Toronto FC game"

Yea that's going to go over swimmingly.

I don't like the looks of him or his type and I don't like what he said or that he's goofy. How did his employment all of a sudden become the central focus tho? Are people so messed up and shrill that they immediately associate one drunk sports fan with all of Hydro One? If he were working for me I wouldn't him around either but Hydro One making hay on this and people lapping it up? High fives all around!

Perfectly reasonable set of circumstances AS LONG AS reporters and journalists are held to exactly the same high standard. Harassment via a story...fired. Story based on heresay and uncorroborated facts that leads to hardship and suffering or harassment of an individual....fired.

Why would anyone do that (rehire him)? Please explain.

Picture this: You post a job for a "Senior Financial Analyst" at $105,000 plus benefits, and you get anywhere between 100 to 300 resumes. If management can pick the cream of the crop, why would they do business with a known ******e like this one?
So these guys aren't afraid to step out of line and take risks. Maybe these guys ARE the cream of the crop and are better employees than other people. Maybe their job performance is great and what they do outside of work has absolutely no bearing on their job performance. I know who I would NOT hire. I would not hire a sheep who follows the crowd and complains about every little insult and setback in life. A joke of a man with no back bone. Basically, I would not hire someone like you.

If these same men were on camera wearing leather chaps and swinging their ***** in the gay pride parade..... They probably would have got a promotion

"If i was educated, I'd be a damn fool"

If you say "**** her right in the pussy" you're sexist towards women. If you say "Suck his dick", you are still a sexist towards women. If you say "**** him in the ***"? Well, is the victim gay? Yes? You're a homophobe! Lets' LYNCH YOU. Get the mob ready! THe victim is a straight man? LOL, it's fair game, go ahead and make fun of him.

Social media is basically a modern lynch mob now. Someone posts something they don't like. A million people share it on twitter/facebook without thinking or even knowing the facts and yell, OFF WITH HIS HEAD! Get him fired! etc. The ironic part is that those same idiots probably claim to be against bullying.

A little more homophobia by cbcanada.

That's why you don't make waves in-front of a reporter with a camera......... He executed poor judgement and is now the focus of a mob. Who put him/them in that position?
