I have to agree with Bernie on this one .... the sound of the power units is atrocious. Absolutely horrible to my ear, they really sound like vacuum cleaners. I used to crave for the shots of the back of the car, so I could listen to the lovely music. This time I was begging the show producer to switch away. It really does not sound like a racing car, every year will just be worse as the battery packs grow larger I guess .... in exchange we get a lot the swooshing sound especially on the down shift, which makes them sound like all electric bikes.
As far as racing show ... meh, I just fast forwarded through it.
I was shocked to learn that the gearboxes have set gear ratios for the season, I kind of missed that detail. What sense does this make??? How is this making anything cheaper, it's not like none of the teams have not been changing gearbox ratios for ages. It just takes another variable out and it must be pretty hard for engineer to pick ratios at the beginning of the season for the whole year, covering Monte Carlo and Monza. It was quite obvious that the ratios are pretty long getting out of the corners ... the cars with not very good K-power were very sluggish, just waiting and waiting and waiting for the turbo to spool up and deliver some boost. I believe this was Vettel's problem. I think we are clearly entering electric car era here ...
I am probably overly negative, but I definitely will not be kicking myself for missing a race this year.
