F1 Thread!!!

If you haven't seen the Australian Quali... holy moly was that exciting! Very surprised to see who's in Q3 and at the front of the grid :p

Good early start to the season. Nice to see Vettel get a kick in the balls, not that he's a bad guy or anything. I didn't realize there's a Russian driver this year, Kyvat. Watch for him, if al thos crazy Russian crash and near-miss videos are anything to go by, he should be an excellent driver as long as he's sober!

Finally something worth watching! Should be an awesome race season. Montreal anyone???

I'm super-proud of the drivers on the podium, and we ended up with 15/22 cars crossing the line. Horrific start with very surprising retirements, but a satisfying finish.

F1 is finally watchable again...

Good mix on the podium (if it stands). But those new regulation engines sound like crap. Wonder if you still need to wear ear plugs in the grandstands.

Race winner had enough time to fully enjoy a celebratory cuban before the other guys finished.

I still miss the old cosworth sound from the 70 and 80's. But yeah the current cars sound like arse.

I agree. I'm actually just watching the race now. (Pvr) missed the qually, so this is the first time I have herd them. Horrible.

I'll be honest I have been so busy over the off season haven't kept up with everything. Need to catch up on all the new rules and regs.

Peaked in the 90s. Hate the new displacement restrictions, power restrictions and spec tire degradation and restriction of cigarette sponsorship.

The cigarette sponsorship I can agree with. It is a "sport". My father is upper corporate for ITL, and I remember when they took players out of the Indy. Big hit to them. But it somewhat made sense. It would be like selling drugs in a health food store ?!
It's a extremely fast game of chess! Feel as though I have to sharpen up on me engineering to understand a lot of what is going on.

I have to agree with Bernie on this one .... the sound of the power units is atrocious. Absolutely horrible to my ear, they really sound like vacuum cleaners. I used to crave for the shots of the back of the car, so I could listen to the lovely music. This time I was begging the show producer to switch away. It really does not sound like a racing car, every year will just be worse as the battery packs grow larger I guess .... in exchange we get a lot the swooshing sound especially on the down shift, which makes them sound like all electric bikes.

As far as racing show ... meh, I just fast forwarded through it.

I was shocked to learn that the gearboxes have set gear ratios for the season, I kind of missed that detail. What sense does this make??? How is this making anything cheaper, it's not like none of the teams have not been changing gearbox ratios for ages. It just takes another variable out and it must be pretty hard for engineer to pick ratios at the beginning of the season for the whole year, covering Monte Carlo and Monza. It was quite obvious that the ratios are pretty long getting out of the corners ... the cars with not very good K-power were very sluggish, just waiting and waiting and waiting for the turbo to spool up and deliver some boost. I believe this was Vettel's problem. I think we are clearly entering electric car era here ...

I am probably overly negative, but I definitely will not be kicking myself for missing a race this year.

What did you think?

I see some of you thought it was exciting race? What did you think was exciting in particular?

If i were to answer that I would say more entertaining in the mid pack. Some good passing and battles. But I'm really hoping the fuel change doesn't change the aggressiveness, being as they are constantly having to monitor the shortage of fuel.

You call this F1? They last 30% of downforce that means less speed in the corners, +these new engines they sound like a cariola! Where's the prestige of F1 went? Gp2 cars they are actually faster now compare to the F1! I defenitely miss the F1 of the 80s and 90s with 1200hp built for speed!!

The exciting part was the guy explaining it to me as it was happening.
