Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

5 panel bay window will be awkward to manipulate 5 different blinds plus the nerd in me would probably go nuts trying to make them all even manually. Then the best reason is the blinds are likely going to be white material so sticky/dirty fingers on them (which will happen) will probably not be a good thing.

I can also pretend I’m a Bond villain by having them all go up at the same time in the morning while I survey my kingdom.

Expecting 1k ish perhaps. More would be shocking, less would make me happy.
Sorry to hear that your dog isn't doing well. If it was my place, I would put in a big curtain for the time...and then once it's no longer needed just remove it and keep it as it was (which appears to have worked for you for quite some time).

But am def curious what the quote was. My cost for 3 small windows was quite expensive...about 1k IIRC.

So I put in manual blinds instead for $200 and just deal with it.

I expect the electrician portion of the bill will be four figures although he may be able to economize by installing the power drop at the same time as fan drop.

Crap…I guess 1k is wildly optimistic. As for electrical, there’s a whole bunch of sockets and switches in the drywall next to the bay window on either side so hopefully that helps.

Do a rough estimate of how many times over the next few years you will actually adjust the blinds. Take the different between manual and automated then divide by the number of times and then you will know how much you are paying (of saving) per blind move...

Finally got my pot lights wired up back to the panel. They are now on a separate circuit with my office. Very happy with how they turned out. Not sure how much I'm into them for, maybe $400 all said and done.

Wife wants more privacy too so it would be every evening and every morning. Plus in the summer the sun streams in at certain times. Our bay window is also a really nice one (have had neighbours ask who put it in) so this is a luxury item to make everything else look good too. Will wait and see what the quote is. If it’s ridiculous I’ll paint the windows black.

Dont expect the Costco quote to be any better then other blind places.

We had ours quoted and they they were one of the most expensive ones.

As with HD and other referrals, they sub out the work, take a cut and have risk exposure if the job doesn't go well. I appreciate having someone to call that may help solve my issue but I am not willing to pay the cost of that protection.

This wasn't as easy as it looked:

Yes. Over time a height difference formed.
How long did you let the base settle? That takes lots of time and tamping.

If you just place the bricks atop the fresh base…it’ll keep settling until it’s done.

My contribution to the house work.

Not my casa, but at my parents house

Overhang for a twin wall polycarbonate sheets over a basement entrance.

Work in progress. Damn rain over the last 2 days delayed the work.

Removed old 12-15 year old structure that held the wavy style sheets (polycarbonate mixed with some fiber) and constructed new supports. The white posts and beam in between them was there already. All other PT lumber is new.

First blind quote. $4k that’s for manual blinds. If we want motors it would be $400 per blind (x5) so an extra $2k.

The blind for each panel comes in at $600ish. Installation isn’t actually too much on top.

The entire bay window cost $5k to install (ok so it was years ago but still) so I’m having a bit of a problem with this pricing.

Seems a little high in my opinion.

Wife likes to buy these 100ft rigid hoses for the grass watering. Annoying and expensive as well.

Trying to fix them up as they’re always leaking at the connection and now they were leaking into the garage. FML.

Gardena self retracting hoses ftw! We have two, one front and one back. Expensive but they work really well. No kinks, makes garden nice and neat. Comes in 120ft versions too I think. Costco occasionally has them for a reduced price.
