Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I do have clay pipes, but I don't think it's roots. the side of the house where the pipes are is all paved, no trees etc for several feet.
Is it just the shower that's not draining or is water from the house backing up into the shower?

On second thought, I just finished reading your thread Bike broke down again, maybe go straight for the dynamite and jackhammer?

Roots have a funny way of showing up a long way from trees...not saying it's what it is...but...until you physically look, there's no way to be 100% sure what the blockage is.

I've tried endoscopes...but ones that can reach that far are not cheap.
I agree, driveway isn't that good a block. Depending on who you believe, somewhere between line of canopy and 3x that radius can have roots.

I have an endoscope that is long (maybe 100'?) No way could you push it that distance though (or really much distance at all). You need to come up with an alternate delivery device to get the camera in place. Obviously it won't be happy winding around a spinning snake (a manual snake that makes it easy to wobble back and forth instead of constantly spinning in one direction could work). A pressure washer with clearing plug on it could work (shoots one jet forward and 5+ back so it propels itself down the line).

Alternatively, rent the proper ridgid camera and it would push easily.

EDIT:
As for making the problem worse, you probably pushed some debris towards the almost full blockage and now finished the plug. You can try a shop vac. It will obviously pollute your vaccuum. Should only clear to the vent but you may do better than that. That gets rid of a lot of the standing water. Get a bunch of water as close to boiling as you can and dump it down. That should soften up the plug assuming you got a lot of standing water out. Cheap and easy (other than shop vac pollution, wear a mask).

It's just the shower which is backing up. The toilet and sink which end up in the same place are ok.

I think @GreyGhost is onto something. I probably jammed up the clog and made it worse somehow with the auger. I wonder if some debris got into there when I renovated over the past couple of years, and now just it's jammed together.

Very possible you got stuff into the pipes during renovation and it all built up.

I’d recommend getting a stronger snake and use it from the basement drain. Both ways as I said.

Any idea if it’s upstream or downstream of the drain where the blockage is?

With a larger stiffer auger fed through the toilet flange (pull the toilet first), you can probably get this. I think you were stuck on an elbow. Once you get a few elbows it can be a prick to try to advance the snake (especially if it is hand crank). I have a 25' snake that can hand crank or be used in a drill. It is in a drill 100% of the time.

Just as a warning to Sburns, if you have a plug with a lot of water above and clear it from the bottom, expect a hell of a mess in the basement. Have something handy to try to plug the cleanout with the snake in it (balled up plastic bags or a soft kids play ball will probably do a decent job).

Now that I think about it, we had a small minor (smelly) issue where when you flushed the toilet downstairs, it would backup into the shower in the basement (only the downstairs).

We removed the toilet, ran the snake. Went downstairs, ran the snake both ways. Went to a third location and ran the snake there also (closer to the exterior of the house) and the issue was resolved 100%.

When my drains went wrong, toilets backed up into the shower (lowest opening above plug). The genesis of my issue was feminine hygiene products. That's not going to happen again. I haven't heard sburns talk of female housemates that could cause him that issue.

Ya...we've had hair issues clogging sinks...that I can guarantee 100% I'm not the source of...

I had those plug the sewer pump in my basement made a terrible mess. Almost as bad as when the coupler broke on the pump and it was recirculating sewage ( spraying it on the ceiling then running back into the pit)

I went to HD to look the rental, yeah I think this is more powerful. Is your dads similar to the HD rental, did you find it powerful?
Just curious before I go rent it.
The one I am talking about has what looks like a built in drill to power the snake.

I should have asked so you think it can "push" something like debris in the pipe?
Like MP said, it puts a hurting on soft stuff (his has a head shaped like a spade). It whips around and dislodges buildup so water can wash it away. If you wanted to thoroughly ream the pipe or destroy all roots, you use a head with spinning chains. Easy to make a small problem a big problem with that head though as it can wreck the pipe if not used carefully.

My SIL has 4 girls and a septic. She has giant signs in each washroom that says:

"if you didnt eat it, don't flush it".

I’m going to start a consumer explosives business and just have everyone sign waivers. I can see another customer in this thread.

Edit: If the Polish guys siding goes bad that would be two.

Bought one of these some years back for about $80 at princess auto. It's paid for itself many, many times over. This guys review was the only reason I jumped on the sale...
