Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

This vapour barrier between the gravel and the concrete? I’m sure as hell not digging up the gravel now lol
Yes.
Just lay it on top of the gravel and pour concrete over it. Cut the excess around the edges once concrete settles.

EPS foam sheets work great, they also give yo a little insulation should you want to heat the shed.

Want a real nice heated setup? Lay 1/2" EPS over your gravel then a 100' pex coil, then concrete. You can plumb the pex to a roof-mounted solar pool heater ($65 Intex Solar Heater Mat for Above Ground Swimming Pool, 47in X 47in | Walmart Canada ), add a tiny pump and you have a heated shed.

You'll thank me the first cold night your wife makes you sleep out there.

A little bit overkill, but I like the EPS idea. Unfortunately concrete is ordered now, and I'm setting it all up now.

Going to pick up the vapour barrier later today to lay it down.

IHL is a good store. Spent the morning there today.

Rethink the vapor barrier. 20mil poly goes under concrete, not the same 6mil stuff used over insulation.

1/2" EPS is both a vapor barrier AND insulation. Drop a couple of $15 sheets over your stones and pour.

Oh well 20mm is MUCH more expensive than the 6mm….wouldn’t the slab lose 1/2” now?

All you needed for vapour barrier was the clear plastic that unfinished basement insulation is covered in.

I think I have a roll. Next time call me.

There is a reason why my neighbors call my garage the Home Depot on the street.

The slab doesn't lose anything, pop your forms up 1/2", the pad is 1/2" higher than grade, and the OH of the shed goes up by the same 1/2"

I've don't bother with barriers under a small pad like a shed floor -- I guess it's a good idea, but IMHO it's much to do about nothing.

When I did my shed floor my engineer B-I-L said not to use a vapour barrier because it would cause the slab to warp. i ignored him, put in the VB and it didn't warp. As long as the VB doesn't get abused anything will do. IIRC mine was 4 mil.

Getting old tends to hurt. It's worse if you don't think things out.

The roofing contractor did a great job on the house a couple of weeks ago and would have done the shed at the same time for a few hundred more.

However I had a thought about re-contouring the roof and would do it myself. After the roofer had gone I started the planning and found the re-work of the roof was a lot harder and less beneficial than I thought so I skipped it and just did the re-shingle job myself.

I've done a few three tab roofs before but this time they were the snazzy laminated architectural ones and it took a while to get into the groove. Three tabs are easy. Once you get the first one down it's like dealing cards and they cut easily.

The shed roof is done except for clean up. I wonder if Kevin wants a couple of hundred pounds of old shingles to bury in his back yard as a tribute to his landscaping skills.

I have always disliked the stupid plantation shutters out house came with. After spending the whole day cleaning the ones on the main floor, I hate them even more. It's quite annoying that my wife likes them. If I had my way, more than half would be in the attic as they are never closed, block more than half the light and are a pain to clean.

Only your standards count, the pad looks great.

Love the ramp too - pretty hood for a quick think. The Polish air forms, grass-fiber reinforcing are genius!
Thanks. We had 2 barrels left so it was either dump it or

‘Where’s the entrance gonna be?’
‘Here’
‘Let’s build a ramp’
‘Good enough’

Finally done for the day…

- fixed the broken lawnmower (new recoil, plug, air filter, and carburetor)
- concreted the pad
- took stuff to cottage
- mowed lawn at cottage

Got back. Bed time.

The pool heater fan had a capacitor meltdown again. Seems to happen every 2 years or so. Spent a while looking for the spare and found it after I had given up it was inside the heater electric cabinet. Good to go again ordered spares from Amazon maybe a reason they are 6 dollars each.

Sent from the future
