Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Mol has no jurisdiction at your house be as stupid as you want.

Sent from the future
I think someone has jurisdiction over your house. I remember a few years back some Hungarians were stuccoing their 2 story house. Their family built a scaffolding system out of scrap lumber -- it was scary! The pic below was lifted from the web, but it's about the same as whet they built around the house.

Someone came - stopped the work and the janky scaffold came down.

I patched the roof last summer and it should hold until next year but i want to address the attic ventilation ahead of time. Built in 1960, the old standards are too small. I want to add soffit vents with known areas.

I don't know what is under the aluminum vented soffits and what suggested grills are. HD has 3" plastic ones but I don't know what area they cover. Any suggestions?
When I re-did mine I found my aluminum vented soffits had been installed over the existing plywood with 3x10 vents every 8 ' (esthetics over performance). I had 2 options to correct the ventilation:

1) Re & Re the aluminum soffits so I could remove the original plywood,
2) Install vents in the gables.

I elected option 2, and installed 2 gable end vents and a couple of whirlies on top. Worked like a charm!

My roof deck is 1 X 6 spruce with thousands of feet of edge cracks. I don't know what air filtration goes through those cracks compared to plywood or OSB. The air flow through three tab shingles is a total mystery.
None to speak of. Most roofing systems seal tightly, they do that to prevent win from driving rain and snow into the attic.

I manually aerated the garden with a Fiskars tool the other day. Surprisingly only took a few hours and was quite cathartic. Aside from the parts of the garden that were still frozen….that wasn’t cathartic.

Wife would like some type of countertop and prep area with maybe some cabinets underneath on our back deck for entertaining/bbq. Already have the BBQ.
It is not under the covered portion of the deck so it will see rain/snow.
Any ideas?

I did mine the same way last year, went much better than I expected (physically). My neighbor came out and asked what I was doing. Told him and he said 'looks like a great workout'. I guess the look I gave him wasnt what he expected. He said 'obviously thats not what you were going for' and went back in his house.

I made a BBQ area on the last house. Roof w lights, bench for sitting/storing spare propane tanks, bar/counter to sit stuff on. The roof with lights was the best part of the whole thing. Didn't need to cover the bbq (or get a frozen cover off it) and could see what was happening. I would definitely make the roof lower next time. I had it 8' to the bottom of the beam and the ceiling about 8" above that. I was happy with the design but I would drop bottom of beam to 6'6" or so to provide more weather protection.

I'm slowly acquiring parts for an outdoor kitchen for the current house. I don't really love the idea but others do. It will probably have bbq, burners, small counter, sink, garbage drawer, misc drawer and bar fridge.

Edit:
I guess I didnt include a picture of the best part. I made crown molding that would hide an led strip and allow it to shine up across the ceiling. I switched the 12V to that strip so I could turn it on when using the bbq but if I killed the railing lights, it would go out too.

I want to build a bbq station in our backyard. I’ve got 2 bbqs but one needs to stay where it is as that’s where the gas line extension is.

$100 if you do my lawn (that's what I pay the guy tht goes door to door each spring. I can probably get you 10 yards.

Thanks but I've already got a large covered section and building another covered section would not look right. Due to large windows/doors it is not a suitable area to put the bbq under there. Mainly looking for something pleasing to the eye and also weather resistant. A bbq island per se that doesn't have the $3500 price tag.

I’ll lend you my Fiskars thingy for $100. I was going to get the college kids who wander around the neighbourhood with the college pro lawncare /driveway sealing company to do it with their machine aerator but they are always a bit later than I’d like. Using the Fiskars thing is basically walking around the garden, pretty pleasant on a nice day.

I have a small arsenal of Fiskar thingies in my garage -- cutters, pruners, diggers, weeders, aerators, tillers, edgers... My wife buys them because she thinks I'll find them cool and want to use them all weekend long.

I keep telling her the only tools that do their own work are made by Milwaukee, Stihl and Powerfister.

What is this thing? Good for lawn?

I'd like a cover over the bbq, its a very well used tool year round. We have argued about what a suitable cover could look like , small deck so wife does not want to block any light coming into the house . So far an umbrella is the answer .

@jc100 , what is this thing pornhub you speak of?

Same here is our issue, plus apparently only I enjoy the bbq food more than anyone.

My issue is the area where the gas line goes doesn't really lend itself well to a bbq station, and to put it on the other side the HVAC guy said the pressure from the house line would be too low, so I'd need to go back to propane.

Now, the charcoal smoker I got from you would fit nicely under a properly done area.

This would be sufficient for my needs...

I'm surprised your pressure would be too low for an extention , but I have no idea how they calculate volume. Our last house needed a 3/4" supply line , Crown Verity grill with pretty serious btu's , I have the one here ( char broil ) at the back of the house on a 1/2" copper pipe to the outside then a 20ft flex hose and it can smelt aluminum.

No clue, but I remember very well the discussion as that's where I originally wanted it.

'I can do it, but your pressure will drop a lot and you won't get much heat out of it, your money so you decide'

I bought enough JH siding to clad the house and shed so they're identical. If there's enough left over I may build a bbq station for the smoker.
