I don't know, there are some arguments that only those at risk should be isolated from the masses. When half the hospital beds are occupied by people less than 65 (with attempted isolation of everybody), who should be be isolated to improve the situation?
Old , fat , infirm, people with prexisting conditions ,all should be isolated. The rest should be allowed to live their lives with masks, distancing and washing up

you forgot to call me hitler. Lockdowns are temporary solutions not cures, like pressure on a gunshot wound, take the pressure off and bleeding starts again. Again as proven the last 14 months. We don’t have less cases now do we ?
maybe we should try something else as I suggested above multiple times

Finally a touch of reality. Lock downs are a temporary measure until enough people get the vaccine to slow the spread to manageable levels. We aren't there yet. Then Covid 19 becomes another flu variety.

quoting crankcall:

I'm getting pretty tired of my wife coming home after a 12hr shift , staffing is a trainwreck at the hospital, nobody wants to work extra shifts because its a gong show. Oakville ICU is 120% capacity, ventilators are being pulled out of other departments so they are not available to people , like newborn infants. ICU was a 1 to 1 ratio of nurse to patient, its 2-3 to one now, because there are not enough staff. Wife comes home burnt, arguing with families that cant get in to see relatives, arguing with Doctors that are still trying to admit patients ( because thats how doctors get paid) with non covid conditions, and there is zero beds available. Staff get exposed and you loose a nurse to 2 weeks quaratine.
And she watches the news and sees bush parties and religious groups meeting for God to solve this.
When they say dire , they arent kidding. Most of you guys have no idea how big a mess this is right now in the GTA. What hits the TV? about half the story.
They have had meetings about what the 'spin' will be when they are out of ventilators and beds and who gets unplugged.

You might as well spit in her face.

Or try something new when it hasn’t worked for 14 months
you keep saying it hasn't worked, but it has been working.

Numbers go up, you lockdown to bring it down. Then you end the lockdown.

Numbers go up again, you lockdown to bring it down again. Then you end the lockdown.

This is the cycle we've been doing for a year. What hasn't worked?

Still mostly older people.Instead of feelings you need facts. no wonder you are so scared you don’t even know the real data
and which age groups are going up now which weren't before?

It definitely could have worked better (from a virus perspective) with actual lockdowns instead of the weak crap we got. Even the watered down measures we have do seem to affect the spread substantially though.

If you gain and lose 50 pounds every 3 months do you consider your diet is working? And if at the end of 14 months you now gain 80 pounds and try the same diet again does that make sense ?

absolutely, i wouldn't argue the government has done a great job. big box stores, yadda yadda.

If you gain and lose 50 pounds every 3 months do you consider your diet is working? And if at the end of 14 months you now gain 80 pounds and try the same diet again does that make sense ?
So why did you not just answer the question instead of asking 2 of your own?

So you're saying we should never end the lockdown? The diet is working, the binging every month once you feel proud of yourself is definitely not working.

and which age groups are going up now which weren't before?
all , with the same fat , old and or infirm being the majority of casualties . Young doesn’t mean anything if you are an out of shape slob or have medical issues. Here is what a “ perfectly healthy “ 16 year old who died of COVID is supposed to look like. This is perfectly healthy?

End it and do something that works and accept that people die

the example was an answer. Doing the same thing over and over and not fixing the issue doesn’t work

She chose this job. As much as we shouldn’t call people hero’s for doing a job they chose to do we shouldn’t consider criticism or opposite opinions spitting in someone’s face

Sure, that's true.

But that being true doesn't mean the lockdowns don't work. They aren't one and the same.

When i ding a supplier for non conformance they are required to investigate. I want them to investigate what happened, what their 'temporary' measure is to protect me, what the root cause was and what they will do to fix that.

A temporary measure may be to do 100% or 200% inspection on all goods before it hits the dock. Eventually root cause may be "oh the machine had a broken pin, we're going to replace it".

By your logic 100% and 200% inspections don't work until they replace the pin, but it does work. It minimizes the risk of me getting a bad part until the machine is fixed.

We are focused in the wrong place. For 14 months no one mentioned health or weight loss, only masks , lockdown and vaccines. The virus isn’t the problem, people being unhealthy slobs is the problem . The world shouldn’t suffer because you spent your life destroying your health and being a pig.

Expand capacity how? They can put beds in a tent in a parking lot. They already have at a lot of hospitals. They can't however magically pull more doctors, respirologists, and nurses (amongst MANY people who are needed to make this work) out of thin air to actually staff those beds.

Protip: My wife works in the field.

And you do realize that we did effectively flatten the curve in March/April 2020, right?

Now, next question, do you understand that the variants are drastically easier to spread and that's the challenge we're in the midst of right now?

Still waiting for a choice 1 or 2 answer to my question. You keep avoiding that one.
Intubation isn't that hard to learn. If Superveloce needs intubation they can just send him to Midas Muffler. They're good at that kind of stuff. Over 2300 locations coast to coast.

do you shut down everything while they investigate ? No . You fix and keep moving on.
