Does anyone here snowboard???

Yeah, you should've stayed quiet Roasted. ;)
But since you didn't, why don't you get your sister to teach a nice rodak like me how to snowboard?

I picked up the gear used from kijiji. 5150 board, Heel Side bindings - both pretty cheap but not looking too horrible. Board bottom and edge in very good shape. ThirtyTwo boots, almost new, very light and comfortable.

Play It Again had nothing yet, too early. Went to lots of stores and they had some good deals but even the cheapest was more than double what I paid used. If I get into it, I'll upgrade next year and sell my cheap stuff.

Getting a 5x7 pass for Blue. I'll be doing Saturdays and maybe a weekday here and there if I like it.

I just remembered why I don't mention my sis on here. I guess I shouldn't mention that she's newly single either........sorry, no pics but seeing as we share some of the same genes of course she is extremely good looking. lol
Youre a horrible brother, no pics of your sis! :p

Seriously though im getting my 5x7 too...just waiting on some 200$ some people owe me AND IM GETTIN IT (before nov 1st hehe)
I wouldve gotten it at the ski show so id have it IN HAND but eh, i guess we cant have it all!

I suggest buy a med to firm boot even if you are new.
As I progressed I could feel the loss of energy or boot flex, I quickly understood why you end up with stiffer boot.
What feels stiff in the store will be like your motorcycle helmet, it will break in with wear.

Everyone with the 5x7's let me know when you go up on the weekdays:)

@ Raf Will do...

Ive did a wicked Tremblant trip last year, got a groupon for a fantastic cottage ( was really a decked to the hilt townhouse) rented car, got half price lift tickets from kijiji....4 days cost about 300 bucks for all.

I have a week vacation left to take... will likely take them during the weekdays to go!

I'm checking out a used board w/ bindings package tonight. So after that it'll just be boots and helmet and I'll be set. I'm pretty sold on buying it already... K2 board w/ bindings, only used a handful of times, perfect for my height/weight too.

I was outfitted by a local skii and snowboard shop. I was told anything from 157-160/161.... shorter = more control, easier to turn and transition, taller = faster. So I'll opt for the control first :P

I already booked the second week of December off hoping that it snows early. Pre-x-mas lift tickets to blue durring the week are usually $20/pop only and it's usually pretty dead so it's the perfect time to go (IF there is snow, please let there be snow).

Nice:)

Yeah I hope for real snow... I did the ice/fake powder snow last year... damn that hurts. The instructor said if I started on real snow it would have been easier to start out on and more forgiving when falling lol

Snow Valley is pretty cheap as well, I won't be buying any passes since I want to check out the different hills. Kind of like track days... why blow all my money at TMP? lol :p

Last year was very sad.
But they have new snow guns this year that can shoot at "higher" temperatures.
The year before i was skiing on the 2nd opening day! Had days off to book..this year still have days off but december is overbooked in my dpt so cant take them off :(

Its really weird though. December 27 2010 i went to bristol mountain and we had a snow storm and some pow and all trails were open!

December 27 2011 we go to bristol and 10 trails open (out of 40ish) and it RAINED during the day, i wanted to cry.

Lets start doing the snow dance

I went on the very last day of the season, it was March... went at night and it was still +5 lol. I was roasting and only had 2 layers.

2 days later Snow Valley closed.

Hoping for something better this year. I'm saving the vacation and 2 remaining 'sick' days for when it really comes down.

Careful about boots and bindings, not all boots fit all bindings. So whenever you buy your combo make sure the binding is large enough to accomodate your boot size.

Thanks, got that bit from the board shop. I'm a 10 in boots... so either M or L will fit with the boot. (Salomon bindings).

I was going to get a 9.5 boot... I went to try some on during lunch, but with my work/dress socks (average/slim thickness) my toes were right up against the toe wall (I can feel pressure on my big toe nail). Border line uncomfortable.... with sweat/expansion/winter socks, I could see this being a problem.

I forsee myself getting winter socks or doubling up on regular socks.... any insight as to how much a boot will break in?

I wear a thin ski sock and am pretty comfortable in my boots. The boots are so thick you don't need to wear thick winter socks. I also like the socks cause they stay up and don't bunch. If your toe is touching or pushing against the toe wall, every time you wear them you will be in a lot of pain.

You lucky snowboarders.

For skiers, ski socks (thicker and better insulation) are better and you gotta get them tight so your toe touches the front.
So awkward to walk with ski boots its a workout in itself. Basically your boot will feel uncomfortable for a few rides until it molds properly to your foot!

I wonder if im going to try snowboarding again this year

I wouldn't mind getting into Alpine boarding but it seems like kind of a big investment. I don't know if there is anywhere where you can rent Alpine boarding gear.
So you do mostly park?

Alpine boarding is where it's at! ;p
Speed, hard turns, blue mountain moving obstacle course, love it. (cant do that on a board yet, just on skis lol)
