Does anyone here snowboard???

So you do mostly park?

Alpine boarding is where it's at! ;p
Speed, hard turns, blue mountain moving obstacle course, love it. (cant do that on a board yet, just on skis lol)

I'm not a park guy at all. Speed runs and carving is where it's at for me.

+1...
I hate how the park at blue has the features side by side as opposed to 1 after the other.. The park in tremblant is half decent..
Now I just prefer glades and back country

Just picked up a full package... Burton board and bindings with boots and a bag for it. The boots are pretty scuffed but the rest is only 1-2 years old and fit's perfectly. It was an awesome deal I got from Kijiji, paid $260 for everything.... if anyone is looking for packages, take a look there!

I just need to pick up a helmet and I'm set. The boots are a 10 and fit great (thanks for the fitment advice), so I'll use these this season and maybe buy a new pair next year.

Yeah... I was going to pick up a new K2 board/bindings on Kijiji but the guy didn't keep in touch frequently enough, so I got ahold of this guy and got it next day.

Any recommendations on tuning/waxing? It was only used 2-3 times last year, but I would want a full look over/service done on the board. I'm in Mississauga but okay with some reasonable traveling. I don't want to take it to Sportchek (they can't even sharpen skates right)... there's a Skii and Snowboard shop in the Etobicoke area on Dundas I've passed by a few times. Or a Play it Again sports next to me (but I don't have high expectations for them either).

Any advice/recommendations would be appreciated.

Go to skis and bikes, they have all the proper tools and knowledge to do it right. If not there then just take it to any small board shop you find. Theres plenty around if you google.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

Funny enough, I've had goggles for the last year because I picked them up from Sportchek, end of season for 50% off.

Oakley Crowbars... I find it a little bulky but they're SO comfortable (then again, I've only worn them once so what do I know about snowboarding lol) But the visor is perfect for sun or night. I'll just have to bring them when I shop for a helmet so it fights right. The one I rented made it fit a little low.

I'm pretty sure oakley makes helmets and those goggles are supposed to fit perfectly with them. That is why they're so bulky, to prevent air going into your helmet and freezing your head. Same thing with anon gogs and red helmets.

I get my board sharpened at a shop but when it comes to waxing.........learn to do it yourself. It's really easy and it's better when you do it fairly frequently.

I think I'm gonna need a new board soon. I think I actually wore my board out...there is a lot of dents in the base and I'm starting to see some cracks. :(

Yeah, I wear a Red helmet and Oakley goggles and the fit is not great cause they are conflicting designs.

Thanks for the tip. Might as well check for helmets at the Skiis and Biikes shop when I get the board serviced. I guess waxing will have to come with practice... What would be awesome is if a local shop hosted a DYI to show newcomers how to do this stuff.

It's simple stuff. Me and vichimself made a vid on youtube about it. Just keep an eye out for kits for sale. I got mine for about 60 bones and it comes with everything you need. If you want to get fancy you can buy a brass brush from home depot and some scotch pads that you ise for cleaning dishes.

Don't use that rub on wax ****, it doesn't work. Also don't cheap out and use a normal iron. You can damage your board that way. If you ever want to see first hand how it's done I'd be more than willing to show you. I'm near the brapton/caledon area and will be waxing a few snowboards this weekend.

I've gotten it waxed by friends for the past few years, but imma try skiis and bikes this year since they have this deal going on

And ill see the difference (edge needs sharpening real bad! and the skis have a few war wounds, gotta love glades)

Skiis and Biikes said $45 for base grind, sharpen and wax... think I'm going to go this route to start with. Any base repair is extra depending on the damage.

Edit: a Quick Google search found a few helmet types that people are happy that look/work comfortably with their Crowbar goggles... good starting point for me :)

Yep, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I'd love to get an alpine board + hard boots and try that. I currently ride a regular downhill board though, just a bit on the stiff+long side (waiting for someone to make a penis joke).

Alpine is a pretty niche sport. It's pretty rare to see anyone on the hills at all riding Alpine. When you do they can usually smoke you. I've NEVER seen a n00b on an alpine board. Also, because it's not popular the boards tend to be big $$$ and it's hard to find good deals.
