do people who ride litre bikes have a lot of self control?

A few yes, many no.
Then again there are people on smaller bikes and larger bikes with very little self control.
The difference seems to be that many litre bike riders think that they do, whereas the others know that they don't.

Liter bikes are both more fun, and less frantic on the street than smaller bikes. You want to slow an idiot rider down, give him a liter bike... They lend themselves to more careful and smooth riding. Seriously.

I would actually own a smaller bike if I lived anywhere near interesting roads. You could have fun on Deal's Gap on anything, I would love a chance to hustle my old VF500F through there. Around here, having a litre bike makes life a lot simpler on the highway, passing or moving around traffic doesn't take a gear change or a second though. Passing people on the VF500F required a heroic effort on the highway. :P

And I agree with previous posters, I ride my ZX-11 slower than any other bike I've had.

With alll that said, I mostly commute and dont get to enjoy the litre as much as I should, so now im in the process of debating to switch to more of a sport tourer type bike or maybe downsize.

A busa all the way man... Switched to helibars and it's a super ride for long distance. I still have to get a gel seat though :)

Today's 600's are sic bikes, insane rpms, all you really need when you're in the city putting around, as for performance, similar ride heights, wheelbases, chassis, just in the engine displacement, 15mph top end difference between them and litre bikes not bad at all as an example-Ty

if u ride on the street with a litre bike how do u exercise total self control to not open her up on an empty stretch of road?

Because an empty stretch of road is not always as empty as you may think, and I value my license, life and other's lives.

I don't own a liter bike but I have had one out on the street more then once and I'd say what I like is all the torque that is avalible at lower r.p.m.'s. For this reason I am looking in a sporty twin for my next bike but not necessarily a liter bike. That being said it's not to hard to shift down a gear or two and bring the revs up to find torque when you need it either. Chances are That I will pick up a liter bike though because I find a 650cc underpowered for MY liking at the moment. Not that it can't do just fine on the streets, because it can. As for showing restraint while riding, well does that not go for everyone liter bike or not?

Bhahaha, sorry man!But the sound of the camera smackin' the pavement was funny.Tie your shoelaces bud.

I must admit, I am more than happy with my sport touring SV. It looks sporty but not overly, it handles amazingly well, has more than enough power in its 650cc's and looks really nice. Supersport bikes look cool and all but they seem best for a racetrack, IMHO. Supersports are also more sought out for theft. Maybe someday I might move in that direction though I probably won't. One thing I also notice is many riders with the Supersports (not all, just the majority I have come across) seem to be to cocky, arrogant and status seeking. I find my SV keeps me more humble and I know if I did have a Supersport I would do really stupid things. No offense intended to any here with Supersports, I'm willing the bet the best riders post here and others with Supersports that I have come across probably have no idea about this awesome forum. Who knows what the future will hold for me though.

I have the maturity level of a 12 year old and can ride a superbike relatively well.

It's not about having self control, it's about being scared of the bike. After 3 years on my 04 i was still scared of it. The day you aren't scared of a liter bike, it's going to hurt you.

I have to ask why you own a GSXR 1000? I just have to...

I'm going to agree to disagree , maybe replace the word scared with Respect? like the day you no longer respect the machine, it's going to hurt you. Scared imply s lack of confidence, fear, insecurity, vulnerability, afraid blah blah blah, being on a motorcycle under these circumstances will get you hurt -Ty

Statement like this goes to show that it's probably been a very long time since you rode a 600 SS. I'll bet you if you sit on one for just a short ride, coming from a bigger bike, you would be disappointed by the lack of power and torque, down low.

It's gotta be a lot of fun when you are revving the **** out of it and riding it hard, no doubt about that but down low they are horribly weak and boring, especially if you are coming from bigger bikes such as Busa in your case or 1098 in mine. I tried an R6 and it sucked ***. ha ha :)
