Covid opportunities???

I've requested a full cruise refund, I'll reassess next year. The window to tour Alaska and enjoy it as a non arctic person is narrow and thier is a premium for the best times. We were flying into Skagway, busing to Chilkoot for a hike, heading over for a few days in Denali and hike/campout, back to Alaskan coast for a couple days then board a cruise ship and going south to Van with stops in a couple BC outposts that you only get to by boat. We spent two years planning. Oh well.

But the cash will look better in my bank account than on a bankruptcy trustees statement at Princess Lines. Appreciate the advice folks.

Well, had you mentioned that itinerary from the start, I would have told you to go.

j/k ;)

That sounds like an amazing trip.
I too want to do an Alaskan cruise/tour. Nothing to see on a Caribbean cruise ship that I can't live without seeing.

Either Alaska or Antarctic cruise is definitely on my list before I go....

You don't need a cruise line to do something like that. You can cover the same ocean (except maybe for the side trip to Glacier Bay) on the Alaska Marine Highway for a lot less money. Not as luxurious, and not as long layovers in the ports, but I enjoyed it.

I can actually do this but wife needs to be on board. Our site is 5hrs from the Alaskan border so can rent a car and go.

once the kids are old enough to leave alone for a week or so though we can look into it.

$16K for a cruise? Holy moly......were you in a high end suite for a 30 day cruise or something?

You don't rent a car you rent or buy something you can sleep, flush and prepare your own meals in.
Boom you just reduced costs and person to stranger contact immensely.
Most efficient fun and cost effective travel I ever did was in a shaggin wagon ;)

1) When I think of the title, I think of the hoarders, the Congressmen selling their stock before the announcement, and the Boomer removers, Sorry.

2) If you're going to go along the rain forest in western B.C., and up to Alaska, be prepared for lots of rain.

Rent a biga** sailboat out of Van and sail it (y)
... if you have deep pockets and know how to sail

Just got back from a grocery run. It's amazing to see how business's have adapted so quickly. I just heard they were thinking of putting up plastic walls for the cashiers, and there they were (No Frills). Also it seems Dollarama is going self check out, my closest store already had them and no cashier.

If anything this is a opportunity for business to change consumers habits and get in line for more self checkouts, no cash, etc.
I am not a fan of these changes for long term.

Sobey's also is putting up Plastic walls for cashiers.
This is actually common in a lot of stores in Europe.

If No Frills is doing it I would expect to see this across the whole Loblaw Companies umbrella.

Disney Cruises are the new status symbol among families with kids.

My buddy bragged that he spent over $10K for a Disney Cruise, two adults and two kids. Was only a week-long cruise, I believe...

Four kids or taking granny and gramps along, I could see it going to $16K.

Should be doing curb service or home deliver only. Air drop would work for me.

I can see it going to a photo scrap book so your grand kids can look at it in awe.

I've sailed Victoria to Alaska, out to the Aleutians , back to Van in a 43' boat. Its a LONG way at 8mph. And cold. And my wife only does sailboats in warm places. Its actually pretty cheap but you need a month.
I cant do Disney cruises, we aren't 'joiner inners' and playing mini golf with Mickey just isn't our scene. Good for those that like that stuff.

I'm thinking when the world stops spinning counter rotation there will be some real value cruises and vacations as that whole industry will really struggle to rebuild and the Boomers which have been the stock trade will be scared/ uninsurable/ dead. It may be cruise ship XXX 2021 limited as they restructure to clear debt?? But i cant see 100 , 100+ million dollar cruise ships being broken up. They'll be back in some fashion.

;) You should have rented a faster boat.

If a cruise line owed me money right now, I would be sending plague cows (coughing messengers) to their office to speed up collection. Only half kidding. I see very little reason not to restructure if goes is as poorly as expected.

As for cruises lines, I bet Donny bails them out (the "US" ones) but should they???

The ships are mostly (all???) foreign flagged (flag of convenience, so they are not really "US" based) so they pay lower taxes, have laxer working standards, more "foreign" workers, can pay employees less....basically to get around taxes and to have lower standards all around. So maybe these countries (flag on the back of the boat) should be bailing them out (in most cases they can't of course)...

Same with ports currently refusing them entry, they should look at the flag on the back of the boat and sail there, the rest of the world should "make" that county accept the boat (as it is flagged there) and then the rest of us can work out how to get the people from there to back home.

Might break this flagging crap a bit in the future...

That has been my argument since the beginning of this mess. If you choose to be from a place with low taxes, expect to be SOL when you require expensive help. If you have been paying similar taxes to everyone else, join the horde with your hand out in times like these.

expect Donny to get his Senate lackeys to prepare a hospitality industry bailout
the talking line will be cruise lines and theme parks, Great American Business hype
it will of course contain a rider for golf courses, Fox News will sell it,
fait accompli
truth/facts don't matter anymore
