Covid opportunities???

Hmm seems the scammers have found a new angle

Just got a text message stating COVID-19 PC optimum has rewarded me some points and to use a link...

You dont need to chase much. Credit card on file. If it bounces for x days, your stuff is gone.

All in the fine print.

This is how storage wars area created. :p

Marketing is one of the biggest expenses for almost all business. But a lot of these storage facilities are usually located near highways or high traffic areas.

My biggest fear would be that those stored boxes and drums would contain hazardous waste. It happened in Etobicoke a while back. A guy rents a big warehouse to process hazmat but just stores it. When it's full he disappears. Landlord finds out that the cleanup will cost more than what the building is worth. Itshay

The storage business is pretty easy once you have the infrastructure set up. CC on file for your decent customers, remember a lot of people that need storage spaces are "in transit" either between homes, working out of the area , getting divorced and an lot dont have CC's that can be counted on to clear every month. Thats the crappy side. And people hoard crap, I have a retired friend that gets the job of clearing units for a Milton storage company, 90% of what he clears out is crap.

I'm amazed at the number of people running businesses out of a storage unit. WAY cheaper than a monthly commercial unit if a single car garage is enough space.

I rent an indoor unit near the airport and there's a guy next to me who's visibly living in his unit. Depressing place to visit in general.

I've helped people move and they're treating threadbare furniture like it was gold. Go to craigslist free and see what intelligent people do. Give it away.

I overheard a condo manager talking to an owner over the phone. "Sir, you can't rent your parking spot out to someone who doesn't live in the building. Besides, there's someone living in the van."

So here is my opportunity, or not...
I have (had) a cruise booked in June, its fully paid for including flights. I can take the 16k as a cash refund. Leave it on hold and reschedule next year. Wait and see if Princess cruises offers a big incentive to let them hold that cash. wait and see if they are even in business in a year. take the cash rebook at possibly a significant discount??
Waht say you?? its a 16K problem.

Always cash. Think of leaving it there as an investment in cruise lines and air lines that cannot go up but can go to zero.

I think cruise/air prices will be in the dumps for a while as they try to get volumes back up. You can probably rebook for less. Or you invest the 16 and the market recovers (realistic with a one year horizon) and you can quite possibly get the cruise and keep most of your initial 16k

Take the refund. But that's just me.A team of wild horses couldn't get me on a cruise ship even in the best of times or conditions.

I would take the refund and wait it out and go another time . Next year etc

I don’t think think the Covid dust will settle yet by June.

Take the refund while you still can and don’t wait till last minute.

Yeah. Dont get stuck in the west jet bank. Anybody know if they are using that as operating capital or borrowing against it or something? They have trapped a lot of money in a business that will have no income for many months.

Nothing improves your negotiating power like having the money in your hands.

When the crisis is over there might be a surge from pent up cruise fans but it will be negated by people rebuilding their finances.

Money in your hands gives you flexibility if a different temptation comes along.

Take the money and hold it. Just spoke with my friend last night and he just 'lost' $4500 for a cruise that he had booked this week (tomorrow). The money is for 'future travel' credit...but with the way things are going, what's to say that the cruiseline won't bankrupt, and then the credit is worthless as the new entrant won't honour it?

Go cash. Take the $16,000 buy an S&P 500 index fund and see how it shakes out. Might end up with a $25,000 vacation in a couple years out of it.

Or a lot of things will tank. And he'll have nothing.

Go cash wait for thing to go sideways for a bit buy Norwegian stock and have a free cruise.
