Covid economy non real estate

Money well spent I’m sure….

@GreyGhost you were saying something similar IIRC.

Also there’s news stories that CERB recipients are being checked for actual eligibility.

Let things settle, CERB recipients feel ‘whew….no one cares for the free money I took.’ And then BAM….prove that you were eligible.

I hope they catch all the cheaters (they won’t), and make them pay it back (they won’t)….

Well, I was excited, then I saw the amounts we're actually investing, and how there's no actual company yet.

For those who don't know, we have something called SR&ED that governments pay for; it's free tax credit (or money) for companies if they're doing innovative stuff. The problem with SR&ED is that it opens up exploitation by companies, especially ones that go for "**** it, apply for everything."

I've been asked to SR&ED for previous workplaces: I got one fined, and took the dev team with me in the other. That's about how valid my experience with SR&ED has been lol

If there is any question about sred motivation or efficacy, there are companies dedicated to filing applications that work on contingency. Basically no downside to companies to apply. May get nothing, may get a gift from the government.

Totally, but when the team, and every manager that has been on that team, unanimously says "we really don't fit"...

I wonder if this is common practice (probably is?)

I know someone who was getting child benefits for their dead son for probably a decade... they have a payment plan to pay it back which is mostly "pay as much as you want when you can" kinda deal

My wife didnt take a full year mat leave. Govt kept sending money after she went back to work. We called, sent emails and dropped off a letter at SC to try to get the payments to stop. They didn't. After the year was up, they sent us an angry letter that we had fraudulently obtained benefits we were not entitled to and had to pay them back immediately or get fined a lot. No problem, here's your money back. Not sure what would have happened if we pushed back. In our case we knew we werent entitled but couldnt get them to stop sending money.

I was/am tempted to take parental leave as my wife doesn't get any. I know another colleague is taking it from June-December...so now I can't take it until next year at the earliest. But I'm entitled to it, and just need to confirm what the top up is.

It happens in private industry as well. My daughter bought a table on line and it arrived damaged. Buy another and get a credit on return. The next one was the wrong colour, buy and credit, next one something else until she finally got the right thing. When she reviewed the paperwork she found that she had more credits than charges but the company said no. She insisted, but the company refused to believe they paid her $2500 to keep the table.

These trailers were $750 last fall....

That's still not bad. Hot dipped for $850 is a good price. Not surprised that they are running a dodgy promotion though. Jack the base price and include a "free" upgrade.

So "imported" to Canada price pretty much doubles..
I remember many years ago I drove to Buffalo and get this very same trailer for $250 and regular taxes Canadian customs charged me at a time...

The one in MP's add is the 2000 lb version, hot dipped, assembled, has a deck and is close to pickup. Yes, it's more than driving to Buffalo and picking up "trailer parts" but you get something for your money. Not bad value imo.

I built one of those once never again the amount of labor involved trying to make it square and good was unbelievable I would gladly pay $1,500 for one built instead of paying $400 for an unassembled one

Sent using a thumb maybe 2

Haha. I didn't have an issue with square. I assume that there is no limit to the amount of labor required to make it "good". Mines still kicking about 13 years later. Paint is a little worse for wear, HDG would probably look like new.

Just looking at the exchange rate itself...500USD = 635.62CAD. I assume you have to pay HST on that when you bring it into Canada as trailer parts (not a tralier) so that's about $718 against 960 buying it from that guy (nice family btw as I bought some accessories off them for my trailer).

For a difference of $242...everyone needs to decide if it's worth the hassle to go to the US and return with it. Pre-COVID I wouldn't even blink, but pre-COVID the price difference was $130 so def not worth the time to go get it for me. For a difference of $250 I'd probably drive down to Buffalo and get it.

Having said that...I'm tempted to sell it and buy a solid aluminum trailer. Will decide what to do once it warms up and I get the light kit on.
