Covid economy non real estate

People were driving from an hour away for 6/3 and 8/3 lengths of wire I had stockpiled in my shed for the last 6 or 7 years of removing old hot tubs for the dump sometimes I would ask if I could take the wire from the breaker to the tub. This year you can bet I'll be trying to get as much as I can from customers homes, will even offer to pay them for it. Was a gold mine for me all winter. some pieces I charged retail + tax + a little extra. Lowes and Home depot have been sold out for months. Average person doesn't think to find an electrical supplier 😁

Im not sure i want to put my toe in a hot tub wired up by a homeowner that doesnt know enough to check an electrical supplier
I'm glad he pulls the wire. Friends bought a house that previously had a hot tub and had a home inspection. Wtf. Wire was kicked under the deck and breaker turned off. Not cool and inspector missed it.

We looked at a townhouse once where the 120V plug had 220V running through it.

Was originally connected to a dryer, but they put it in the basement, and just replaced the outlet type to one that looked like a 110V...oops.

But....'A very nice Polish boy that lives in the neighbourhood did all my wiring for me.'

You are my hero! So happy to see people finding opportunity and being able to make it work for themselves! I'm always in awe where people find opportunity. I would never have thought of that.

I've got about 30ft of 8/3 here, and just checked another 30-40ft of 6/3 lying around in my basement.

When we re-wired the garage I ran a 6/3 line to the laundry room where I want to have a pony panel built for what was supposed to be a hot tub...that plan got derailed. But you can be damn sure I'll be calling you first @Mikedezo44 when the time comes for a tub!

JT's nine cent kick in the nuts comes April 1st. Meanwhile we flies across the world to play dressup. I don't think he understands how carbon emissions work.
He understands very well how it works. He just doesn’t give a ****. It’s not his money.

Copper / steel/ aluminum/ plastics/ wood have all seen massive increases in cost , so any home product will be up . Some as much as 100%

Our neighbour just got her catalytic converter stolen from her car 4:30am this morning. I'm sure there is an uptick in demand for precious metals.

There is several hundred bucks apparently in a catalytic converter , whatever that material is inside . I hope her insurance covers that?

Some scrappers are paying close to $1000 for a pair of cats. It depends which car as each one has a different amount of material in them. No idea what they are selling them for.

Remember price stickers before the bar codes? When you used your last can of tomato soup you knew what you paid for it.

Every can, bottle, box or piece of hardware had a price tag. If there was a price change they had to be peeled off and re-tagged.

Now it's just the price on the shelf and a few keystrokes on the store computer.

I worked night crew in a grocery store back in those days. Had the frozen foods aisle. Took hours to do price changes, especially for the little cans of frozen juices. I had to warm up the old sticker to get it off, then had to warm up the spot to get the new one to stick. Stocking new stuff wasnt quite so bad, wipe the frost off, warm the spot, stick it on, repeat. Surprised I didnt lose some fingers to frost bite.

More and more grocery stores are going to etags on the shelf so those can be rapidly updated. I suspect they are short range so someone has to tap each one but that's still faster than tens of thousands of stickers.

Yeah I worked in a lumberyard store , owner was crazy for having enough “ everything “ so you would keep 200 110v white and 200 110v ivory receptacles and everything that went with it . A price change was all day .

My friend lives in LA and she had to put CAT protector as she parks her Prius outside.. It’s been an issue there for a while, I guess it’s happening here now as well…
