COVID and the housing market

I couldn't find the article but a Canuck company is already doing this in the states. The news article I heard was brutal. People being evicted. Having to pay huge fees to qualify to rent and other shite stuff. They buy up the houses and charge goofy rent.

Landlords don’t care. You know about ltb rules? Kick me out and take advantage of the 400k+ New immigrants

Landlord Tenant Board…

Typically renovictions to kick out existing tenants. Easiest way for smaller landlords to kick out tenants is to say that a family member needs the space.

- Take away parking passes and spy on you

Recently, I heard my previous rental in Cambridge flooded again 🤦‍♀️. Landlord was forced to renovate a lot of it and it is ruined again.

It keeps doing this because the landlord installed a cheap plastic hose for water draining and that hose keeps getting loose. Then basement floods, Install a proper pipe!!

Why install a proper pipe when a cheap one gives him flood on demand, enabling renos and rent increases?

Whatever happened to being satisfied with just making a decent buck on rental income instead of going full blown greedy.

Why do it properly once when you can half ass it 3x?

Housing is an investment now. Has been for years, and that narrative has been pushed by everybody that is able to make a buck of it.

Such a fool for selling that property! Damnit! LoL One decision I'll never forgive myself for.

As for @Georg3__ 's previous landlord...it's very typical of small landlords. They don't know enough to fix it properly, but are too cheap to pay someone else to fix it.

Dad and I did a full reno on a basement for a lady once. Dad told her 'leak is coming in from the foundation, fix the foundation, and then we'll reno the basement'. No...she wanted the basement renovated. So we renovated.

3 months later we were replacing the floor a second time. That was 10 years ago...basement leak still not fixed.

We are! But you’re not living in my house…:your bike on the other hand…may be able to find some space for it. Just leave the keys.
I didn't think about it...but not sure how the burger thing will do to my gut now following no more gallbladder....something greasy/fatty like that will probably kill my gut.

I'll have to re-introduce McDonald's again for re-training of the gut prior to Burger Meetups starting again.

Let's see what happens this week with the bank rate...if they don't want to raise it they can use the Ukrainian conflict as a justification to keep it.

But I am assuming there's a 0.25-0.50% rate rise.

They can't use strong language too many more times before people completely ignore them. I already do. No good reason not to go 0.5 last time to start the chill (unless you wanted the housing market to continue to boil and give people more time to pay ridiculous amounts for housing).

Great article. If the news can dig up that much info imagine how much the government could pull on him and his companies but have been to lazy to so far. Gotta love they can skirt around all these taxes and laws prohibiting these transactions yet my aunt's estate had to pay over 3/4 of a million in taxes last year for properties and pension she worked her whole life in Canada for and the government comes with their hands out that they are owed that money for doing nothing. Just because she didn't have it all tied into complicated numbered companies and shady out of country dealings. Really hurts when a sum that big is taken from an estate.

It's much easier to go after the small time investors than it is against a system of corporations, loopholes, and teams of lawyers knowing how to circumvent paying tax.
