Not wanting to be alarmist, but the canadian covid numbers are rising a bit (number of new cases per day). I hope it's just a blip and not a trend.

well, you have to expect it to trend upwards as they relax the rules. They should rise as things open up. The key is to avoid reaching the threshold where hospital capacity is exhausted. In the first cycle of this, most ICU's were at something like 20% capacity. Its the R number they will look at. As long as people take precautions we should be ok.
That depends on how you sort the table. USA has been in first place for total infections for some time, and is likely to remain there. (We're 21st.) USA is also in first place for total deaths and is likely to remain there. (We're 14th.) In deaths per million population, the USA is 10th although San Marino and Andorra are very small - they have the populations of small cities. Number of deaths in USA would have to double for it to reach 2nd-place Belgium ... although that possibility can't really be excluded.
Many individual US states have the population of typical countries. Viewed that way, New Jersey and New York are worse than any other country in terms of deaths per million people. Connecticut and Massachusetts are on par with San Marino.
The states where the rate of infection is in the news for its rate of increase - Florida, Texas, Arizona, California - don't have high deaths per million population relative to the USA as a whole. Yet.

I know some people who moved out of New York City and back to a small town in Canada. I'm not sure if it was just before or just after it hit.
There are rumours of a migration out of New York and L.A. It might be happening in other places too. While the Democrats hold the Republicans, in contempt, they're also moving around and knocking on our border.

I don't consider the Democrats saints in this matter. They only care about American votes and the American economy. What happens to Canada is consequential damage.

Fyi, our fed. gov’t is in the process of stockpiling syringes and other medical supplies specifically for administering a vaccine as soon as one becomes available.
Good to see they are being proactive.

I haven't seen enough new studies with regards to the efficacy of masks, to support one way or the other.
We're still at the better safe than sorry stage.
