Turn Left on Mill Street

Take Mill Street to Simcoe and turn Right on Simcoe

Simcoe to 1st Ave

Left on 1st Ave to Drew St

Right on Bloor to Simcoe

Right on Simcoe

Simcoe to John Street

Left on John back to Drive Test Centre

Hope that helps

Thanks a lot!! Much much appreciated!!

Did my test earlier this week in Brampton. Pretty much the route that others have described on this thread. I got dinged for 8 deductions. Most of them were for forgetting to do shoulder checks in turns, one in a through-way, and once for going too fast on a ramp. Woops.

I recorded the trip and posted here with some commentary. Pretty boring vids, but might be helpful for people who are going to take it or debating whether to go to a course or not.

Sorry about the really crappy sound. I just got the cam not too long ago, so I'm still figuring out the best way to mount it. The case was vibrating off the top of my suspension on the handle bars, hence the buzzing/static sounds above 30km/h.

Passed mine in Aurora, this morning. Everything was very straightforward, taking a total of 25 minutes.

Their radio wasn't working properly, and they couldn't find another one, so I asked if one of them (there were 3 people - a guy driving the examination car, the examiner himself, and another lady, who I presume is a trainee examiner) had free incoming calls on their cellphone. I ended up calling one of their phones, and using my Scala Q2 to listen to the instructions. Didn't talk back, except once, because I couldn't make out if the guy said "farthest right" or "first right".

Did some street riding, a few lane changes, nothing out of the ordinary. Was told I was speeding in one spot, slowed down (no marks on the sheet). Went on the highway, just for 1 exit, with 2 lane changes - again, nothing interesting (got docked for going too slow - haha).

Back in the city, emergency stop, and back to the ministry.

The guy was very nice, offering praise and what have you. I was moving my head like crazy, to show that I'm looking at the mirrors and intersections, and still had 14 points for mirrors and head turns. At the same time, they have to mark something, or else why are they there?

As someone said, if you can't pass the test, you shouldn't be riding. Also, while I took the Humber course for my M1, just to avoid ministry bs (had enough foreign riding experience), I don't encourage people to take the M2 exit course, because it is a waste of money.

Thanks for all the tips! Will be taking mine hopefully at some point this season. All these things will come on handy

I did the test this morning for the first time(in London) and passed without any problems(5 minor checks). The need to perform constant overly obvious head checks seems a little ridiculous to me. I found it difficult to concentrate on the traffic around me while putting on what amounts to an act for the tester. I certainly don't move my head constantly while riding normally.
The only major issue I had was the horrible performance of the earpiece I was given. Once I got over 80km/h I essentially had to guess what the tester wanted by watching the movements of the test car. I could not hear a thing - and I wear a full-face helmet! Also, my bike(a sport bike) is fairly quiet compared to most of the cruisers I've heard. I can't imagine how some of the Harley riders could ever pass...they wouldn't hear a thing!
Many thanks to the posters on these pages. I certainly would not have done as well on the test without the advice listed here!! Well done folks!!!

FYI - I was there very early and was told that the two people who tested before me failed - so the failure rate must be fairly high!

Went to Brantford, was not allowed to take exam because I was 3 minutes late!!! Test was supposed to start at 8:55 and I walked in at 8:58. The lady at the front said "YOU ARE LATE". I told her it was bad traffic as I was coming from Mississauga. She said let me see if the examiner can still take you. Guess what examiner was not able to take me. PLUS they charged me twice as the computer cancelled my fee. I was there for 3 hours on standby. I saw the examiner talk and chat with people all day at one point no one walked in for 42 minutes, but still did not take me. What sucks is that my spot was not given to anyone on standby as there was none there for standby at that time.

Next test date $150 later at Brampton. I wont be late this time. I wonder though, can they cancel my fee for being 3 mins late?

Longtime reader, seldom poster here. Just want to say thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread so far. I've got my test tomorrow at Downsview and feel a LOT more confident after reading all this.

I have a question about the emergency stop; is the bike turned off, or do you put it in neutral?

I have a question about the emergency stop; is the bike turned off, or do you put it in neutral?

Examiner can tell you what they want but mine expected, bike to remain on, idling and in neutral; Rider dismounted and standing just off to back of bike.

Don't forget your kick-stand, I was told many people forget to put the stand down before getting off the bike.

First off - thanks to everyone who posted information about the test on this thread. I passed in Burlington this morning, thanks to all the info I learned here - and saved myself the cost of the course!

Thought I would share a few things:
1 - The examiner took me on a different route because he saw me practising the standard route earlier in the week. So here is the "alternate" Burlington route:
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Unknown+road&daddr=Fisher+Ave+to:Mountainside+Dr+to:Unknown+road+to:N+Service+Rd+to:43.343626,-79.826918&geocode=FYVclQId2uw9-w%3BFT97lQIdTSQ--w%3BFWaOlQId7DQ--w%3BFaLtlQIdKMs--w%3BFXx4lQIdsjc--w%3B&hl=en&mra=mi&mrcr=3&mrsp=5&sz=15&via=1&sll=43.343158,-79.81782&sspn=0.021504,0.030684&ie=UTF8&ll=43.354517,-79.812584&spn=0.086,0.122738&z=13

2. Afterwards, the only thing the examiner said to me was that I was doing almost 50Km/h in a school zone, and that he could have failed me on this (and would have if he thought I was a bad rider). I confess I didn't see any school zone signs (but that's the problem of looking around all the time the way they want you to on the exam - you can't take it all in and you may end up missing something important - IMHO).

3. The exam form had 11 minor errors on it. I thought I had a very clean ride - but as many people on this thread have said - they have to find stuff to ding you for. What made me laugh was he dinged me one each for "not look at hazard", "no mirror check: 10 secs", and "no blind spot" check on expressway exit. I spent so much time looking over my shoulder (double shoulder checks on every lane change and exit) and in my mirrors that it's a miracle I didn't ride smack into something right in front of me - but go figure!!

Anyway - the guy was nice and friendly, and happy to answer any questions before we set off - and at the end of the day, if you practice your basics a little and keep your head moving, you should have no problem passing this test.

And now....resume normal speeds......

****, I've been practicing the other route. I wonder which way they'll take me, I'm sure it will be this new route.

Oh well, more riding time in residential areas then I guess. Hopefully, I'll pass.

I hate test's and interviews.

I completley agree with this text in bold.

Two.

Just a follow up. Passed my M2X today at Downsview thanks to this thread. Thought I did pretty badly to be honest, as I was a bit nervous, but nevertheless, only got 10 marks against me and it was mainly for mirror and shoulder checks. I had two of the testers who were both riders themselves (one of them a member of the Canadian Motorcycle Cruisers toronto chapter) talking to me while I was waiting. They told me the most important thing they look for is lane positioning and checking of blindspots. I thought that I did enough, but apparently not!! You need to really be moving your head CONSTANTLY with emphatic, easy to read movements for them to see you making an effort. My route was out of the test centre, East on Sheppard to the Allen, South on Allen to the 401 West to Keele, North on Keele to some side streets which spit me out at a traffic light that led back to sheppard, then back to the test centre. Had to change lanes safely 4 times on the road, once on the highway, and one emergency stop. Rode in a range between 59 and 65 km/h, no marks for speeding/too slow. Thanks again to everyone! Good luck to future riders taking their tests!

Woot,

Passed today in Burlington, only lost 2 points for turn signal issues. One time left them on too long on after entering ramp, 2nd time didn't use them entering exit (self-adjusting). They did make me do the emergency stop on a resi street. The route I practiced was only partially close to where the took me.

All in all, relatively easy if you've been riding for a few years at least. As others have said, enhance your head movements.

Funny thing though, all I can recall is **** wouldn't that suck if I slammed into something cause I'm bobbing my head like a bobble head. It is distracting.

The two guys were pretty cool

Thanks to all involved esp. car2slo for starting this thread and others for their replies and efforts to assist other in passing.

Cheers,
Two

Passed yesterday in Brampton, 6 points deduction. One for driving too slow (50 in a 60 limit on Kennedy), and 2 for apparently leaving the signal on (right signal) each time after the emergency stop. I thought that was what I was supposed to do, leave the right signal on, get back on the bike, signal left and go. Anyways, doesn't matter, he said I did very well, so apparently six points is not much. What's the limit of points to pass, I never checked.

It was quite funny, cause the driver was a well endowed younger girl, apparently in training. So every time I was stopped at the light, I could see him flirting with her in my rearview mirror, hehehe. DMV people need some loving too!

Thanks to everyone to contributed to this thread! I passed today at the Oshawa testing centre, with only 3 deductions. Thanks to Regnaston who posted the route for Oshawa. I practiced it a few times and the examiner took me down that exact route.

When the examiner first came out, he sounded very firm and spoke very fast. He told me to ride like I would normally ride (sure buddy, I'd fail for sure) and to obey all posted speed limits and signs. I only asked about what he wanted me to do for a roadside stop. He said to shut off engine and dismount. I was a little nervous at this point because of his stern tone.

They followed me in a red Nissan Altima. The headpiece didn't fit around my ears very well, but the volume and clarity were more than adequate. Everything was fine until my second time on the 401. The right lane was closed just after the Stevenson on-ramp and traffic was at a crawl. I barely got out of first gear until it was time to exit.

After we got back to the testing centre. He said that my "observations (i.e. bobble head technique) were exceptional and that the overall ride was also exceptional" and that he "had to find a few minor faults" and docked me 3 points.

I'm pretty relieved that it's all done and over with. The whole thing ended before I knew it and I'd have to say it was pretty easy. All I did to prepare was read this thread (every page, twice) and practice riding "properly" for a few days.

Thanks again everybody and good luck to anyone taking the test in the near future!

$75 for test
$15 for handbook

$90. Still ahead of the game for the M2 exit. Take the ministry test, save your money. Took the Aurora one, no pressure, the ear peace was even cleaned infront of me. No tricks or anything like that at all, upfront on what they were looking for and if you had questions, no problem at all, even afterwards if you wanted to discuss certain things/scenerios that came up.

#1 thing I can pass on.. stay out of the middle lanes, period. If you enter the highway and there's a truck in your lane on the far right, pass it, but don't stay in the middle lane (or if it's a 4 lane and 2 middle lane, stay outta both of them). If it means passing them at over 100km, it's fine. Pass 'em and slow down afterwards.

I got dinged for staying in the middle lane, but here's how it went down:Got on at Wellington, merged into lane and a truck and car were ahead of me. Now I remember someone here on a downsview test that got dinged for not passing the truck as it was a hazard because it was going slower then traffic. The handbook recommends to stay away from trucks as well, blindspots, etc and making yourself visable.. So, as soon as I was in this situation, I moved to the lane over, without them instructing me to do so and stayed there. If anything, I wanted to show I was avoiding a hazard, but didn't know if I should pass them without them telling me to. She said pass if I want to, whipped by them, but back into the right lane and kept my distance and speed.

She said what I did was correct, but I should have just passed them as well since I was in one of the middle two lanes which they don't want you to stay in for lack of proper blocking position avail.

Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread!!! I just did my test at Brampton and passed with flying colours! I got 5 points against me, and 2 of them were for going too slow entering onto the highway on ramp/acceleration lane (tooooo funny!!)

Anyways, like everone says, over emphasize your mirror and blindspot checks, and when you're approaching the intersections, do the left-right-left check for the stopped traffic and you should be fine.

Good luck to everyone

okay

Did it at downsview. There were only four of us that day. I must say it wasn't as bad as I thought it would've been. Here's a "walk-through" for those who wanna take it there:

DOWNSVIEW M2-EXIT TEST

  • Ride your bike around to the back of the building, park and register at the dispatch desk. They'll give you instructions from there.
  • The instructors will walk up to you and ask to check your signals and brake light operation.
  • They'll brief you on what is involved in the test, which as follows:
- Safety
- Techniques involved during the test
- How the radio will work
- Discussion of the route
I'll discuss each point here:
Safety
As you know, you're in charge of your own safety, not the instructor. Just because he gives you a command, doesn't mean you have to comply. If it is unsafe to do so, don't do it.

Techniques
Tire Track,You will be judged on tire track choice, make sure you know this.
Mirrors & Shoulder Checking Check behind you through the mirrors, and your blind spot every 10 seconds. Can't stress that enough.
Emergency Stop, which was just signalling then pulling to the side of the street, put my four-ways on, shutting the bike off, kick stand down and dismounting. Then you're back on your way again. Don't forget to check your blind spot and signal!
Freeway Lane Changes, I hadto do a two lane changes on the 401. From the slow lane, to the adjacent lane to the center lane. Radio
Theradio is one way communication only. You can only hear what the instructors are telling you to do. If you don't understand a command, tap your helmet twice and he'll repeat it.

Discussion of the route
The route I took is outlined on the map. The instructor will follow you in a car and give instructions through the radio. The start/finish point is marked by the red dot. You start by going north on Sheppard and make the entire round.
Leaving the parking lot, be careful of the speed limit in front of 37 Carl Hall. It is 30km/h.
The Green Dot is where I did my Emergency Stop
The Orange Dot is where there was construction going on during the time of the test. It may be gone by the time this post ages, however, it was 50km/h zone in a 70km/h, be careful.
The Blue Dot is where you do your freeway lane changes. Take the off-ramp, make sure to indicate and light up your brake lights!
The ride north on Keele was pretty lax, just a single lane change and then it was back to the test centre.

Untitled.png

All in all, you have a good 30 minutes on the road. I wasn't nervous at all and was happy with the clarity the instructors gave before the test. You can ask questions and they'll be happy to answer them. It doesn't hurt to bounce ideas off the other riders who just finished the test prior to you if you're lucky enough. I'm told the route changes from time to time, so if anyone has another route, i'd be happy to make another map if you pm me with the details.

I laughed at my self when I booked my appointment about a month ago that it was gonna rain when I did my test. Here we are, the morning of and its pissing rain. My test is at 11AM in Burlington. Great advice in this thread. Gonna leave soon and ride the whole way there "properly" :p
