Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

They are also very very picky about your speed when merging on the highway. Before merging you should be up to the speed limit... but if there are cars in the merging lane they say you should wait to move? (if the lane is ending I think this is even more dangerous).

You should never make a lane change even if the car behind you is 25 car lengths away. This is because on the test you are doing the speed limit of 100km/hr... but on most highways EVERYONE is going faster so you can't lane change in front of anyone if you will cause them to break/slow down it is considered unsafe. Go figure.

The 2 other riders I talked to and did their test that day had their G licence for 10 or more years including myself and we all thought our lane changes/speed were fine...but regardless you have to do what they expect on the test.

I guess it depends who you went with- keep up to traffic speed, if they say a lane change, you do it when its safe.. So thats your call.. when its safe. Stay at traffic speed...

ok... i gotta question then.. i have to take this test in the next year or so..

my question is.. if you are on a multi-lane highway.. you merge on.. so if you are going just 100kmph you should stay in the slow lane... but in the M1 exit course.. you are taught to use the fast lane for blocking position. IF you stay in the slow lane from the time you come onto the highway until you go off of the highway.. what is the "correct" blocking position for that slow lane?
thanx in advance

Take the m2X course... I believe you have it wrong, we dont tell people to stay in the fast lane. We advise you that there are different lanes, and different situations you would use either the slow, middle, or fast.
The slow is not good when cars are merging on. The middle is not great as you have two lanes you have to watch, so your all over the place with your blocking, and the fast lane to use when your passing.. So, if still confused take the course.
So blocking postion will change, but to your answer your last question, it is the left third of the lane..
So, again reading what your saying about your blocking .. I think your a little unsure, or confused.. So, take a look at the Proficient Motorcycling book, can see some online, or chapters.. this will help you out..

Cheers

Does anyone know Brantford route? Have my M test in 2 weeks.
Also, when you merge on to the highway and if you stay in right most lane do you stay in left blocking position or right blocking position?

Left blocking position in the right lane and any of the center lanes (in the center lanes so you're right in front of the driver so he's more likely to see you).

Just did mine today, no biggie, i even took the wrong turn and missed the first part of the highway. Ended up going on the highway once, got dinged a couple times for not checking blind spot on the turns, so just keep that in mind.

Yea you should make sure all the signal and lights works, some guy had to reschedule cause one of his turn signal wasnt working. Anyone good luck.

I did mine in Hamilton cause all the other places were full till like June.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I thought Hamilton no longer did tests?

Has anyone completed their test at Oshawa recently?

I'm doing my test there in a few weeks and am unfamiliar with the test centre and surrounding area. If you can share the route or a few things to watch out for in terms of hazards/weird roads/signage, it would be greatly appreciated.

I plan to familiarize myself with the area before I take the test, but any info on the route would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

anyone done the brampton route this year..

hey was just wondering, what do the examiners check on your bike before you do the test?? turn signals, break lights?? do they check your tires as well?? just wondering. going to have to go for my full M soon.

The tester in Brampton made sure that all four signal lights and the brake light worked. He had me actuate the brake light using the lever. He also had me check the horn.

If he looked at the tires, or at anything else, he didn't mention it.

In addition, when I made my appointment, the lady on the phone told me to ensure that my windshield and visor weren't cracked.

First off - thanks to everyone who posted information about the test on this thread. I passed in Burlington this morning, thanks to all the info I learned here - and saved myself the cost of the course!

Thought I would share a few things:
1 - The examiner took me on a different route because he saw me practising the standard route earlier in the week. So here is the "alternate" Burlington route:
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sour...=43.354517,-79.812584&spn=0.086,0.122738&z=13

2. Afterwards, the only thing the examiner said to me was that I was doing almost 50Km/h in a school zone, and that he could have failed me on this (and would have if he thought I was a bad rider). I confess I didn't see any school zone signs (but that's the problem of looking around all the time the way they want you to on the exam - you can't take it all in and you may end up missing something important - IMHO).

3. The exam form had 11 minor errors on it. I thought I had a very clean ride - but as many people on this thread have said - they have to find stuff to ding you for. What made me laugh was he dinged me one each for "not look at hazard", "no mirror check: 10 secs", and "no blind spot" check on expressway exit. I spent so much time looking over my shoulder (double shoulder checks on every lane change and exit) and in my mirrors that it's a miracle I didn't ride smack into something right in front of me - but go figure!!

Anyway - the guy was nice and friendly, and happy to answer any questions before we set off - and at the end of the day, if you practice your basics a little and keep your head moving, you should have no problem passing this test.

And now....resume normal speeds......

Got my "M" this afternoon in Brampton! As long as you re-read the book to refreshen your memory of the 'basics' its a piece of cake. :) Do not go over the posted speed limit and keep your head moving (my neck is actually cramping from moving SO much!)...

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions guys!!

Already thinking for next season to sell the 2008 GS500F and upgrade to another litre bike (yes I have a litre bike...not the 500)...

Now where we ridin' to this weekend? *lol*

I booked my full M test for June at the Oshawa location, as the one in Toronto has a long wait times. Just curious, if anyone has the route for Oshawa (sorry if it has been asked many times). I want to take a ride out there so I can familiarize myself with the area.

Hi Gang,

When doing your mirror checks, how often do you do them?

Every 5 seconds

Every 10 seconds

Every 15 seconds

And do shoulder checks done the same time too?

Thanks!

I am doing it Thursday, so I will try and post the route

Yo !
This thread is super-helpful.

For those taking the test in Brampton watch out for the Kennedy Rd portion - there is a school zone and therefore on weekdays the speed limit is reduced from 60 to 40 km/h (the two amber lights underneath the school zone 40 km/h are lit) speed there and you will fail right away.
Anyway, the route posted a few pages back is accurate; do an exam simulation on your own, including 'emergency stops' and you'll pass for sure !

Oshawa Route:

Exit Testing parking Lot turning Right onto John Street (make sure you get into the first land then merge to the left lane)

Goto Park Rd S and Turn Left.

Proceed to Tresane St, Turn Left (they had me do an emergency stop on Tresane)

After Emergency Stop pull back out, and proceed down Tresane.

Turn Left on Mill Street

Take Mill Street to Simcoe and turn Right on Simcoe

Simcoe to 1st Ave

Left on 1st Ave to Drew St

Right on Drew Street

Drew street to 401 West. Get on the 401 they will ask you to do a lane change to the centre lane and back again when safe.

Exit Stevenson, turn Left on Stevenson and immediately get back on the 401 East bound. (at the end of the off ramp, there is a bump be prepared for that)

401 they will ask you to do the lane change again and back.

Take 401 to Ritson, exit 401 at Ritson

Ritson to Bloor,

Right on Bloor to Simcoe

Right on Simcoe

Simcoe to John Street

Left on John back to Drive Test Centre

Hope that helps
