Interesting article. Frankly I see massive spin doctoring going on. Doesn't matter if it is right or left, now a days there is always an ulterior motive to much news.

I think my favourite Conrad Black cartoon ever (which sadly, I cannot find at the moment), had him riding to battle on top of a giant tank.

The tank was an oversized book, with "Thesaurus" down the spine.

Why does everything have to be dismissed as self-interested politicking? The aggravation of working for Ford more than passes the sniff test, with the rapid turnaround rate, and how every staffer who was offered to move accepted, and the fact that Ford is a demonstrated thug in everything he does. (This is what makes his personal problems relevant to the public IMO)

We've all worked with an office bully or two, and it's pretty obvious that Ford fits the mold. Meaning it's pretty obvious that it's a very unhealthy work environment and that very little work is going to come out of that office.

I'm not sure if Fordism can be best described as Tea Party Politics or Neo-Conservatism. Both tend toward anti-intellectualism. Both imply that successful people don't have enough in common with 'the common man' to know what he wants though neo-conservatism tends to put forth successful people as it's representatives, while covering them in the cloak of commonality.

For this reason I would tend to lean towards neo-conservatism. After all neo-cons aren't fiscally conservative, but rather just have other priorities for which they would like to empty the public purse. Subways come immediately to mind.

And just who thinks that the job of a mayor, of a major city, is to return each and every call from a member of the community?

Who is capable of defeating Ford at this point?
Do they have the votes to oust a Conservative?
Which Conservative can step in for Ford if he does not run again?

His poll numbers are 45% and after a few months will go back up.

Ford Nation are more committed voters and that is why they will win again.

The only real reason why Ford won the last time, is that the leftist vote was so fragmented. If the left could keep it to just a couple of candidates, which would be whittled down to a favourite by election time, they would slaughter him.

Not really, or Ford would never have been able to get anything passed in council at all. After all, the mayor is just one vote in council so unless a whole bunch of councilors swapped political affiliations while I wasn't looking, it isn't a left leaning council.

After all, disagreeing with Ford and finding him to be an embarrassment isn't being a leftie.

i don't think the left was really fragmented last election as Smitherman was the only big name on the ballot. Rossi - more of a centrist - had dropped out and Joey Pants never had much of an impact. The decision was really between Ford and Smitherman and if I were faced with the same options again tomorrow, I think I would have to vote Ford.

Smitherman's fingerprints are all over the green belt fiasco, the green energy clusterf***, Orange Air, eHealth, and God only knows what else.

Smitherman plus Joey Pants beats Ford by a fraction of a percent. The rest is pretty meaningless, given how tiny a fraction they represented.
