McGuinty or Miller or Wynne can cough cough "lose" a $1 Billion and no one says a thing or goes to jail. Our mayor who has been stopping this kind of crap doesn't get off so easy.

Don't look now but he just wasted a billion on a subway we don't need. What's the difference between waste on a subway and waste on a power plant, other than 10 million taxpayers?

The difference? At the end of the money wasted on a subway there will, at least, be a subway.

and they'll use it as another excuse to keep hiking rates etc etc. It's circles and every politician has you run in them. The good old mayor is just a special case of the dumb

The ttc needs to raise fares to maintain the existing subways even with the high density of ridership downtown. The Scarborough line (with just 3 stops) in a lower population density, will require further fare hikes to maintain. Not to mention the portion of the property tax increase currently being debated, that is required to build the Scarborough subway to begin with. Ford is costing Toronto 1 billion dollars, to buy Scarborough residents' votes.

At least the no LRT is pretty much in the same place as the is subway, not hundreds of Km away from the people it's supposed to serve.

Regarding the subway being built in an area without enough density to handle it: Notice how often you see the newspapers or or even residents of other areas complain about the Sheppard Subway? Yeah, neither do I. The best it can manage is an occasional brief mention as one transit planning mistake among many in the past 30 years.

I mean, the most vocal gang who were bitter about that ridiculous goes-nowhere-does-nothing subway were people who lived on or near Eglinton and who were rightly po'd at Sheppard getting an aimless stub before they got a genuinely useful and much more badly-needed artery. Now that they're getting the Eglinton LRT, you don't even hear that.

Which is to say: The Sheppard subway was a colossal mistake, a totally wasted opportunity, a severe setback to building a proper transit grid, and pure pork barrelling for the area's developers - but good luck reminding people of that.

I'm still at a loss to explain why so many people applaud the person whose job it's supposed to be to watch the big picture, because he does the job that a councillor's receptionist should be doing.

I caught a bit of a blurb, yesterday, that said that Ford was mentioned in the wiretap logs, not included in them. It'll be interesting to see what they have.

If we could secretly spy on all elected officials personal affairs, i'm sure Ford would look like a choir boy.
We're getting ripped off to the tune of many thousands per crooked official, yet we are still focused on the fat guy that parties too much.

Harper was loving these last few weeks cause it took all the heat off him and his band of thieving Pirates.

I complain about the Sheppard line all the time and live on Eglinton. I still think the Eglinton line is dumb cause it is so close to Bloor anyways. Continuing the Sheppard line would have made more sence to me....

I dunno, seems pretty straightforward to me.

People don't participate in the democratic process anymore and feel alienated from their leadership. They hear somebody returns his calls and they feel a connection they don't usually have.

The idea of a good ruler talking to "the little people" is as old as the hills.

And the more said 'ruler' interacts with individual 'subjects', the less real work of governing he does. The guy in charge has to look at the big picture and create consensus, or nothing gets done. Ford has never bothered to try and create consensus. It's his way or no way. The job of a real mayor rarely involves dealing with barking dogs and water leaks.
