They have a smoking gun to get rid of Ford and the Conservatives but they don't have the guts to get it done.

Reality check.... So IF they raise the 200K to buy a video from the drug dealers and IF the video turns out to be real and IF it actually proves he was smoking crack (that is the big IF) and not just intoxicated and smoking something from what looks like a crack pipe why would he resign, just because the left wants him to? Also can he be legally forced from office because it looks like he did crack? Pretty circumstantial evidence if it is just "well it looks like he is doing it."

We know the left in council and The Star will do the usual frothing at the mouth and there will be lots of drama from them but that does not change the fact it is unlikely the video as described by The Star will prove in a court of law he was actually doing crack without a reasonable doubt. So they just think he will resign just like he resigned all the other times the left has thrown all the legal and other the drama at him? Why is this time different?

Those are the big questions, like him or not. It is a waste of 200K that instead of lining the pockets of drug dealers could actually do some good in the city.

For Ford, if I was him (I would not be in this situation, but regardless) I would just come out and say that I am curious if they will raise the money for the video, and that I will address the video when they do. I would challenge the dealers to give the money to charity, and/or challenge the people raising the money to do so. If the video gets out I would say test me for drugs and you will not find any in my system... Otherwise I will address any criminal charges as required...

So what, he may or may not have dome some illegal drugs, the Temperance Society of Toronto will have a new thing to cry about after their big casino win.

Good post. Also, I want to say, why pay so much money for something that might be available for free next week?
There is a slim chance we will see the video without anyone paying for it... the gentlemen who made the video may decide to show it for free, or "leak" it. The heat is on them and releasing the video can solve some of their problems.

Also, there is a different alternative: even if you have the money, the video is not available anymore. Somebody already bought it, let's say over the weekend, and the phone and the video have been destroyed already.

It was crack, and he did jail time. He did get re-elected afterwards though.
