I may be old but thats uncalled for.
I'll take over when you're on break.
Seriously, there needs to be some kind of test of citizenship every year, or something to stop millions of oblivious people from making demands and taking decisions on subjects that they don't understand.
Rob Ford I can forgive and agree with in that he was not looking for anything other then charity money to help kids.
Kyle Ray is a crook that needs to pay back that money + interest.
I'm much more interested in the spirit of the law as opposed to the letter of the law because we are not computers we are human beings with the ability to think and reason.
In this case he is trying to get donations for a charity. If he personally addressed it using blank paper as Rob Ford. The people he sent the letter to would know he is the mayor regardless if he used company letter head or not.
Asking him to repay the people who donated to a charity when he did not receive the money personally and does not have the money to give back to them is ridiculous.
In all of this his mistake was that he voted on the motion to make him pay it back. Not that he made the mistake in the first place. That mistake was not enough to get him kicked out of office.
Now Kyle Ray (yes I am just using him as an example) Threw a $10 000 going away party to himself with his office budget. Councilors who sat on the THC board saw all the wasteful spending and big executive pays of that board and did not speak up.

Perhaps, unless you read his own statements in the matter as he made them to the presiding judge. He indicated that it wasn't a 'mistake', but rather that he did exactly what he intended to do. He was repeatedly warned against it, before he did it. He ignored the warnings and acted in breach.
Unfortunately your statement is the sort of thing I refer to when I talk about, "But what about what the other guy did?" comments. Kyle Rae did what he did. Rob Ford did what he did. Wrong is wrong.
You must have a sore throat for having to repeat the true problem over and over again. I could send you some lozenges.
The original "Crime" in Ford's case is minor. The issue is his failure to take the rules seriously. Also don't you think he could find $3K in his own pocket to straighten out the mess. His own legal bills had to be many times that. He refuses to admit he was wrong.
On the other hand (And hijacking a thread) a council woman found DUI has accepted full responsibilty for her actions in a teary response. She may have downplayed the number of drinks but still bit the bullet. How should her irresponsibility be treated?
If DUI is a criminal offense how does that affect her eligibility in performing some potential duties?
Precisely, though I would characterize it as a major improper act, brought on by a relatively minor action. Ford's default position on anything seems to be raising the ante, rather than admitting he's got nothing and folding his hand. When you lose, you lose BIG.
In his decision the sitting judge seemed to be looking for reasons to let Ford off but, with the evidence of Ford's own testimony, all avenues allowed by The Act were blocked. As there was only one possible penalty that could be applied, removal from office, that was what he had to rule.
I don't know that it will have any effect at all. It's not like councilors are bonded, or anything.
I thought there was a moral/ethical component to the councillors role and if convicted of a criminal offence while in office they were required to step down?
If you can forgive Ford, could you also forgive Ray if he spoke and voted on a motion to forgive his repayment of the funds?
That is a silly comparison. One was soliciting money for a charity for at risk youth. The other threw himself a $10 000 going away party.
However if Kyle Ray apologized said he was wrong and repaid the city for the money he spent on himself. Yes I could forgive him.
The silly comparison is saying that since Ford was forgiven for speeding at 110, why wasn't Ray punished for allegedly doing 140. What!?!
Why don't we do a forensic audit on Adam's file...why is it only the "right" folks are getting audited?
Anybody saw how Doug Ford grilled Adam Vaughan?

:lmao:
I couldn't help LOLz
Ownz...
Tarnished?? Because he spent $3000 from the city?
That's probably lunch $$ for most politicians, lol
If you only see dollar figures, then try $40,000

Never mind the incompetence.
You gotta knock off the only in Ontario shtick, we only have one Mayor to send to jail, Quebec has several complete thieves in city politics, and allegedly in the construction business.
Glass houses and all that....
