IIRC the white foam board can't be in a spot where gasoline can disolve it. There you need polyurethane.

The fuel tank is in the back.
When I get around to it, I may shave off an inch off the bottom to prevent any contact with fuel or even water.
Just got the finial bill for the rebuild of our 7.2 (454ci) marine engine. Needed all new hoses and belts, stater alternator and distributor , new fuel supply system went in . In the end we jacked up the carburetor and put a new motor under it.$21k . 17yr old boat. Used boats ughhhh.

21k for a motor rebuild….yowza
11k for rebuild , then add starter / alternator , fuel pump. distributor , fuel supply plumbing . Marine starters/ alts all have to be sealed units , no spark allowed in the big fiberglass box and your at 20k before you blink.

For those interested in preparing for the boaters exam or just want to brush up their water smarts, CT has the BOATsmart!® Canadian Boating Licence Study Guide on clearance for $7.93. I picked one up as they kids are interested in doing their boat license.
NOTE:
Most locations are sold out of this handbook. The ones that have it, will have it at the clearance price. I managed to get the last two at a Brampton location. A quick search showed there are two at the Liberty Village location and 5 in Midland, ON. There may be others, I didn't check them all. Not sure what the "Ship to Home" looks like from CT.
I did notice there was another study guide next to this one. Canada Boat Safety Study Guide, PCOC Study Guide. Not sure what the difference is but I did notice it a few pages thicker and it was $17.99.
I am guessing its just two difference organization putting out their own material.

If anyone hates having money and wants to relive the 80's, here is your boat. Quad 454's. ~80 gph at cruise. Better than the turbine versions of this boat that are ~300 gph at cruise. You can probably buy this boat for close to zero but it will cost to get it relocated.

That's a lot of scratch!
A crate 454 runs about $8K. Replacing parts for fuel systems, belts, hoses, water pumps, ignition, alternator, electricals, gaskets and chemicals with top quality stuff adds $1K on the cheap, $3K using quality parts.
That leaves $11K for re&re labor. Oof!

What’s the consensus (if there is one) on a good, small (3-4 people MAX), fishing boat?
Took the kid out fishing this weekend with friends on Simcoe and while he caught a ton, he seems to have gotten a bug for it.
Shore fishing would be better…but I’m not aware of many good options.
Also…if a boat comes with a motor…let’s say 10hp. Does that mean 10hp is the max size?

Small craft are body of water specific. Simcoe and the Great Lakes are big water - you’re limited to good weather days with low winds. Smaller lakes are more forgiving.
4 people are ok in a 16’ aluminum. 9.9hp is the limit for an unregistered craft, 10hp and up require registration and must display numbers.
Most 16’ deep vee aluminum runabouts will run fine on 10hp for fishing. 20 is ideal as that will get to plane easily and reliably. You can also tow water toys. 30 gets hairy on a tiller, a side or centre console is best for 30-50hp.
Another good beginner option is a 16’ fibreglass runabout. Bigger motors (50-70hp), faster on the water, easier to handle and a bit more utility — toy can pull tubes and skiers. Bowriders can handle up to 6 people.
Lots of brands, marketplace will have options between $1500 and $10k.
The motor it comes with and the motor is can take legally are very often far apart. Look at the yellow coast guard plate. My 14.5' can take up to 30. Previously owner had 9.9 and then 30.
50 hp and down tiller is a non-issue imo. They make tiller over 200hp (with some built in tricks to help save you from torque steer).
I like boats with plated hp. Legend based much of their sales success on tiny motors on big boats to make them look cheap. A 17' boat with 15hp is not fun and the buyer would have been far better with a 15' boat with a 20hp for the same money. At least the smaller boat could plane with people on board. Not as impressive looking in the driveway though. 17' should have 50hp+ imo.

Bunkie? It's almost bigger than my house. If you went down to twin engine, there is probably enough room for a couple motorbikes in the garage.
Sorry your #s are way light . Crate motor is closer to 16k , a rebuild on a skid from the marine guy in Vaughn is 9k , water pump ( runs off the crank , thanks Volvo!) is $500 , alt is $600, starter is $500. Got to remember this stuff is all non spark marine crap. Stupid 6” diameter exhaust hose is $30 a ft. Thank God the transmission is “ok” .
First order of business should have been hunting down the guy that bought this tub 7yrs ago , with 454 marine Volvo in it …. 32gal per hour , when there is no chop… $280 bucks an hour . Wonder why so many big gas cruisers become floating cottages ?

The hour long video makes it look like like elbow grease, a can of paint and a few parts gets you out on the lake.
What the video doesn't mention is that the fiberglass hull is 65 years old and is as structurally sound as a nicely painted egg shell. Fiberglass naturally weakens over time. Flexing from hitting waves weakens it more, freeze thaw cycles and UV add to the damage.
If I wanted that boat of that type to actually use I would have done a deck off restoration adding new glass and resin on the inside (Adding weight).
I don't like bow riders in big waters. Fifteen seconds into the next video shows why. I don't know when the captain noticed the passenger going over the side. I don't know if she was trying to selfie her own drowning but fortunately a jet ski was there.
Launch ramps are another source of amusement.

If a "captain" has people in the bowling big water, everyone is surviving on hopes and prayers from the outset. You can sink anything if you're dumb enough and boats with people in the bow at haulover are close to the top of the dumb pile
Did you see anyone wearing a life jacket?
Has the captain rehearsed retrieving a person from angry waters without smashing their skull with the boat or chewing them with the prop?
Who is the backup skipper if the captain goes overboard or whacks his skull?
Does anyone on board know where a safety line is and how to throw it?

P,S. My wife could not handle a single lever throttle. It was either a granny shift or WOT.
Also, nothing other than money is stopping mp from buying a 200mph boat and seeing how fast it will go. To do that in LOTO time trials requires working up speed classes, to do it in simcoe is just money.
