Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

sounds like a bit of a hassle to me, esp if you have a family on board.

I completed 400km round trip this weekend (up north), filled up the SUV before I left, got to the destination, and back. still a quarter tank of gas left.

no charge stop planning, no unnecesary charge breaks, no worries about cold sapping my battery, I could use all the heat and heated seats and heated steering wheel without worry, no hunting for chargers, no range anxiety, no worries about hogged chargers. I could use higher speeds on certain roads without worrying about battery life zapped in the cold.

smooooooth non stop worry free driving. was a good trip.

Just saying....
You basically described the worst case scenario for an EV...400km...in the cold...high speed...full heat on inside.

We're not at the stage of replacing that ... yet.

However, my max use is 280km in frigid cold (-15C or so) from Mississauga -> Algonquin Park. I can charge at an L1 there for 3 days so should allow for a good portion of the trip back to be done on EV without stopping at a mid-point charger anyway.

Narrowing down to Bolt / Maverick (hybrid) / KIA EV6 / IONIQ5.

Out of all of those, the IONIQ5 is at the bottom for my wife as not enough buttons and she won't enjoy looking for menus while driving. EV6 seems to have more buttons but I've never sat in it.

Maverick and Bolt have the most physical buttons (2025 Mavericks have more of a screen interface with larger screen compared to first gen).

Thats for sure! and the reason why Hybrids make the most sense.
Agreed. For most people a straight 100% EV can make sense.

Not for everyone, but if one doesn't leave the city limits often then it's a non-issue. Or if one isn't in a rush.

My max cases that I NEED an EV to do for me to replace it...

1. Mississuauga -> Algonquin (270km) in the cold and allow me to charge at L1 for 2-3 days to recoup enough to get to the next station on the way home

2. Mississauga -> Wasaga Beach -> Mississauga (260km) with no charge in the cold

The Bolt is teetering on the edge of unusable as it has barely any more space than the GTI (maybe some height) which is interesting as specs say it's 26% more roomy than the GTI (must be the vertical space only). But if wife can get her vacuum cleaner in the back...we can make it work. Think I may start taking her vacuum to dealerships for the test drive as she's not interested in driving around in cars.

The USA’s largest EV market is starting to speak with its wallet as well, Tesla sales dropping while virtually all other automakers accelerate, some very rapidly.

Fair, but I’m pretty confident the rest of this year is going to be a bloodbath for Tesla, not only in the USA, but around the world.

Anyone invested in Tesla may be wise to GTFO.

wow, nice table, I didn't realize Tesla sells SO many cars there - 2 hundred thousand vs 22 thousand at most - Tesla vs everyone.
But since there are so many players (26) if each of them increase by 2% - all this could change to the opposite. Free market should sort it all out if given the chance. Let's the best product win :)

On the other hand Tesla dominates charging so this is a huge advantage as well - might be whole future business for them dominating that space..

Their charging network is open now, it’s not just Tesla anymore. In a few weeks I’ll be able to charge my Hyundai at Tesla superchargers. I already can across swaths of the USA now.

It’s open right now…until Elmo decides to burn that bridge also.

The supercharger network was literally the best reason for a Tesla. They have a great, reliable, and spread out network.

If everyone can use it, the buy Tesla business case is weaker.

I expect Elmo to cancel allowing others to use the chargers to maintain the Tesla advantage.

The issue is control, can Tesla got every other EV brand happily jump on using their charges AND right when everybody so happy enjoying their "reliable wide spread" charging system crank prices to the Moon (Mars?) for all competitors? Double effect - show that Tesla cars have advantage and just pure massive money grab..

50% discount for Tesla cars for charging compared to others.

That’s all he needs to do.

There is no shortage of alternative charging networks out there, they may not just be in the numbers that superchargers are, but they are certainly out there. I’ve travelled all over Ontario and Quebec in an EV and never once needed a Tesla supercharger.

I’ll use them if they’re open and they’re convenient. If neither is true, I’ll go elsewhere.

Suddenly rug pulling the access from other manufactures who all switched to NACS from CCS would be a great example of shooting themselves in their own foot though. As it is considering the craziness Elmo is up to right now in openly taking over US government agencies, I am sure that there are a few auto executives second-guessing these decisions now.

The one big reason I would and do want a Tesla is the gadgets and mainly the self driving feature. I will be getting a Y in the next couple of months for work that will become my main vehicle, as in I will be selling my Outback and just having a Y LR that work pays for and I use like it is my own. The big thing I want to use with the EV is the self driving option for my drive in and out of work every day. I live rurally and work rurally with about a 50 - 60min commute to work every day each way. This would just make that commute even more enjoyable. Long, straight, well marked country highways that will be no problem for a Tesla. I did a demo last summer in downtown Kitchener at the busiest time of day and it was pretty amazing how well it handled all that. What I want it for will be a walk in the park for the spring, summer and fall months. For winter I won't use the self driving.

we're two years away from taking over the lease on the kids Tesla. He's a Qantas pilot and gets special lease rates and writes it all offl
Step dottor drives 50km each way a few days a week so good fuel savings.
Partners Honda CRV will hold high value as will not have much mileage on it.
Maybe...I get to drive it ?
I keep telling her to let me drive the CRV a bit in case I actually need to get her to the hospital.
Deaf ears tho 60 years of driving cars as well as motorcycles should let me handle it.
Looking forward to the Tesla ....maybe.
I was campaigning for a BYD ...but not my money.
