Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Just checked....a Model 3 would be close to $650/month with 20k down...not for my pocketbook. How the eff do people afford this stuff.

Oh wait...it's that cheap HELOC that could pay for it and it would cost only $400/month in interest.
wife wants a G wagon for her next car. you should go check out the monthly LEASE for one of those.

drive a lot for work. even with regular fuel at 12L/100km I pay $3-500 a month in gas. Truck was worth 30k.
so my monthly cost is about the same, less without oil changes, brakes and other fluids. and even less when its paid off.

They don't. Banks makes a killing.

Oh for sure...I just couldn't stomach that type of payment personally.

G-wagon? Alright....we got a LOT of ballers on GTAM....that one ain't cheap in any way shape or form....but it sounds damn good! Some drug dealers had it near our old townhouse...sounds phenomenal when it goes.

Hahaha ya I figure as much for a LOT of people. Not everyone...but for a lot for sure.

Waiting to see the final LOC # we get...hopefully start some renovations soon, and maybe do some small investing to grow the war chest.

Last month had a quarterly dividend pay so loan payments from dividends exceeded interest expense 10:1. Up a few percent on capital gain too.

Now back to EV discussion. Rivian stock took a beating with their stupid plan to jack prices on preorders by ~20%.

they reversed it for reservation holders but doesn't spell good news. I highly believe the current prices are unprofitable.
With how much cost-cutting there are on teslas, the biggest cost are the battery/motors.
If even tesla has trouble mass producing 100kwh vehicles at a reasonable price (<60k), I don't see anyone else doing it in the near future.

just because she wants it doesn't mean she's getting it. I'm not even close to that level of baller status yet. (~$3,000/mo for a 3 year lease or $160k outright) looks like she's going to be driving current car into the ground.

I would think 500

Sent using a thumb maybe 2
Kia Ev6 is $499.82 / 36mo lease (tax-in, $5000 down) according to their builder.

$299 isn't going to happen.

5000 down is functionally another 140 a month (or worse). I dislike down payments on leases. If the car gets squished on day one, that one day of driving cost you the entire down payment. At least if you buy the car, the down payment survives the crash.

Hmmm....haven't considered the Bolt in a while....assuming a 15k trade in on the Volt....definitely doable.

But why? You aren't saving much money on fuel and the bolt is smaller. If you were trading in the WRX, the math would make more sense.
No reason lol. I'm just one of those 'what if' type of people. Always looking at options.

There's real no reason for me to switch. With the charge at work option...my drive both ways is 100% electric...and I can book it 120-130kph without worrying...until they start charging me for using the L2 chargers...then I'd have re-evaluate.

Without charging at work...I can make it from home - work - Hwy 400 when the gas engine kicks in.

I've been saying for years. $30k and 300km of range and I will put my money down. Doesn't have to be powerful....just get me to Toronto and back with no range anxiety. 4 doors and hatch back like a Matrix.
I'd be down with that type of car. My only requirement is 300km in the COLD weather. I want to be able to go to the cottage, and back without having to charge.

If I have to go further, then that is very rare and can take ICE for that. The Bolt would do that for me...but as @GreyGhost it doesn't make financial sense for me right now.

EDIT: I'm cherry picking but I bought my car for $19,500....and currently have 87,000km on a 2018 Volt LT...

Talked to a VW mechanic in the US recently. He said avoid the ID.4 for now. Too many electrical gremlins and not all have solutions.

not surprised to hear this, and won't be surprised if the GM ultium is a disaster too.

Did a search and didn't see any mention of VinFast

2 models coming second half of 2022 apparently (VF8 and VF9)
Both SUVs
Pricing to start around 53k CAD, 200,000km or 10 year warranty
Option to include battery lease program (if your battery fails to charge past 70%, it gets replaced)
Pininfarina styling, the VF9 kinda reminds me of the new Aviator
Glad to see some EV competition but sadly still priced out for most people

Never heard of vinfast before. I sure as hell wont be giving them 50k+. Assuming they arent vaporware, the chance they deliver a competent vehicle and stick around to support it are low. Lease maybe.
