5k limit....what would YOU get?

eh just get an SV, hell of a lot more bike and more fun than a cbr500

Warmer weather is coming and I’m getting the itch again. Wife is on board but I went slightly over budget on the car so now holding back. But time to start looking.

have enjoyed the CB500F a lot

...
Honda CB500f's are available under $5k all day long...

Been there done that. I'm considering the X simply because price point is within my limit, and the F was fun but the wind got tiring after a while.

Going next week to try and see some Volts, if the trade difference is good b/w the WRX and newer car then my budget can go up to possibly 7k. Depends how much of a wash I'd have to take on the trade.

Haven't considered the SV @bigpoppa ... biggest problem is I'm entering into the spring season and we know the COVID premium on toys right now.

The only issue with the SV is the ergos are aggressive unless you can find an 'N' version or one of the newer models with upright handlebars

or just get the real thing and buy a used ducati monster

@mimico_polak scratch that, ducati's are overpriced, here are even better alternatives, all within your price range, and no belts/desmo valves to worry about, that one with vos has been up for a while, you can probably haggle it down easily, come to the euro side, we can put up our noses at the peasants on their jap bikes together:

You're trading in the WRX already?
Depends on what the dealer offers. If I'm taking a 10k wash...no. But if I can wheel something that gets me a decent price differential then yes. Great car, fun car, but too much for the street and I found out my next assignment will be in Scarborough once we start construction...it's going to suck going across the 401 with a clutch. So looking at Volts/Bolts and maybe even a TDI Sportwagen.

Honda CB500X is about as exciting as watching paint dry
This is my concern. The F was good all around, but not great nor exciting in any way. Same for the Rebel 500.

Or just get the original and buy a Honda Hawk GT!
Not sure how I feel about such an old beast. I love the look of em though. Same as the Magna.

I know literally nothing about Aprilia. Reliable? Fun? Maintenance?

If you're looking at the SV650 than look at the FZ6, more fun in my opinion but biased, also like half your budget

eh, id take the SV over the fz6(no offense), sure on paper its got more power, but unless our resident polok likes to ride at double the speed limit, I doubt he will enjoy it

I miss my TDI. I really didn't like the Mk6 sportwagen. It was Jetta based and decidedly meh. I'm not sure how many mk7 tdi sportwagens exist. If you don't want a clutch, that means you get DSG which has some positives but also has routine maintenance costs (~$200/yr).

I love it...but I'm too pansy and don't want to pay 10k for impound and losing the bike / license for a week.

I dont know much apart from it will probably sound better, ride better, be more fun than most from japan, maintenance is probably easier than ducati(because no belts or desmo valves)

Apart from that maybe @Priller or @Katatonic or some others with aprilia ownership experience can chime in

You're overpaying for insurance to ride a death machine in one of the coldest places on earth, motorcycling in canada isnt supposed to be logical, go with your penis/heart
