50 shot dead - Orlando shooting

Right.

Wrong. Aside from the AR-15 (specifically) and the AK-47, it's pretty much a free-for-all.

But we know rifles are seldom used in crimes anyway, so the recent abolishment of the long gun registry by the Cons was a step in the right direction towards easing unnecessary restrictions and red tape on law abiding gun owners.

The next time you hear Mr Trudeau or any of his lackeys talking about reinstating a long gun registry or getting rid of evil black looking rifles, please at least just roll your eyes. These types of guns don't kill Canadians.
After the BBC, meet the BBR.
Big Black Rifles.

Honestly, Canada is doing it right when we compare to our neighbours down south.

And that is my opinion.

I don't know about him, but I'm irked by the constant dark cloud hanging over law abiding and licenced Canadian gun owners. The system we have in place clearly works, we don't have a gun violence epidemic up here. Of the 600 average annual homicides, 1/3rd is by way of gun (predominantly handgun) and the other 2/3 are knives or other means.

So with that said, every time the goddamn liberals get on their soapbox and demand further restrictions I cringe. They're not guided at all by common sense or logic.

and of the 1/3 by guns.....how many are legally owned? I'd bet most are illegal guns that any controls the Gov't has, don't have any effect on.

Too lazy to look it up but yes the percentage was miniscule, under 10% if I remember right. Maybe even around 2% actually.

I suppose the antis argument would be how many of those illegal guns were stolen from legal owners but whatever.

@Snobike Mike, what is it about the Canadian gun ownership experience you don't like? What tweaks if any would you recommend? A major overhaul?

We could start with the current licensing scheme and go from there.

But of course this thread is about Orlando and about the lefties all jumping up and down to grab more guns because somehow it's the guns that cause the violence and actually talking about ISIS or terrorism doesn't follow that narrative. ;)

Yet in Britain they have to use ancient guns and/or rent them from an owner, because of the gun laws there.

You haven't been paying attention. The problem some people have with guns isn't that they cause violence but rather that certain weapons -- designed and existing only for the purpose of killing people and/or animals with great rapidity -- make it possible for violent people to kill great numbers of people over the span of a minute or two.

I am still waiting for him to tell me why civilians need bullets designed to go through 'bullet proof vests' aka cop killers.

Guns exist everywhere in the world. Even poor African countries.

It's not even the type of gun.

It's the access to them. And the USA at it's inception ingrained the right to have them.

Britain, Australia, Canada and others have governance of who, how and what guns citizens can own and use.

There is no easy answer to our cousins to the south.

Not sure how many more people these tragedies will occur before their is a willingness of the majority to make some change? Not saying the changes will be good.

But there will be change.

It is the new normal. After the little kids in Newtown/Sandyhook were SLAUGHTERED, little kids riddled with bullets, little kids laying on the ground crying as they died a horrible death...........................a right minded country would have demanded and fought for IMMEDIATE change...but NOOOOOOOOO

let's carry on, business as usual...move along move along ISIS, terrorists, crazy ppl, the big bad govt...everyone EXCEPT THEM.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results - Einstein

With America being the number 1 in terms of per capita gun ownership, can you explain why they are so far down the list in terms of per capita murder rate?

So you admit it's the people not the guns that's the problem? Wouldn't it then make sense to go after the people, such as those with mental health issues and/or with terrorist links rather than the inanimate objects such as guns, airplanes, fertilizers and the like that they use to perpetrate their terrible crimes? Oh right, it's only guns that matter.

PS, would holding the door closed to keep victims inside an establishment such as a night club while a terrorist is killing people with great rapidity increase or decrease the total death rate?

ROFL

wat

I didn't know cops wore plate carriers and type III armor these days...

Newsflash: just about every rifle will defeat a vest.

I'm not pro gun but saw the registry as a poor fiscal decision in that more lives would be saved by putting the money into heath care, enforcement of existing laws, mental health issues etc etc.
