50 shot dead - Orlando shooting

Same reason women wear high heels in public. It does no one any good looking ridiculous at home.

I have a .22 Marlin lever action that from 30ft away looks pretty much like my Winchester .30-30 . You could strut around with it , but you might need a ten gallon hat and western boots to complete the look.

Speaking of struting why do the guys need to wear camo to the gun range? Those paper targets don't seem to skitish. And why do I see fisherman sitting in boats in full camo? Fish cannot see through aluminum.

Dude that was funny as hell, thanks.
Maybe they are living in the moment, you know, like a pirate, yaaarrrr mateeey

So... any of you non-shooters want to meet at Silverdale tomorrow and see what the shooting sport is all about? You'll see (maybe even try if you ask the owner nicely) AR-15s, Tavors, XCRs, Mini 14s, etc etc... I'm allowed to take in and supervise one guest who does not have a gun license. As for me, I will be bringing two semi-automatics and likely one bolt action... need to do some sighting in and testing of a new rifle.

It might be an eye-opener to you... you'll have 100's of shooters around you sporting 'dangerous assault weapons' and handguns and no one shooting each other!

Dang...missed out. Would have loved to try a Tavor. Shooting a .22 Marlin is about as easy as a BB gun IIRC.

As it turns out, there were very few people there... so very few varieties of guns to shoot. I guess no one took Dad shooting on Father's Day.

Also, I know crankcall was joking, but it appears some didn't take it as a joke. Of all the people at the range yesterday, exactly zero were wearing camo. Exactly zero were wearing anything 'tactical' either. None of them looked like they were duck dynasty wannabe's or JTF2 wannabe's.

If any of you really want to find out what range shooting is all about, here is a groupon deal where they let you shoot a variety of hand guns as well as an AR or similar.... it's a pretty good deal considering a day pass is $20 on it's own. So another $40 and the ammo is covered: https://www.groupon.com/deals/silverdale-gun-club-1-10

I'd love to see current stats on gun ownership in Ontario. The shooting sports have exploded since I got into it. Silverdale is bursting at the seams

They all are. Range Burlington has a waiting list that is over a year... maybe two.

As of 2014 the number licensed was approaching 2 million... http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/facts-faits/index-eng.htm... likely much higher now though, as I recently read a stat (that I can't find the link to) that the RPAL numbers are approaching 1 million... and I imagine that there are way more PAL holders than RPAL.

2 million licensed gun owners in Canada? The streets must be running with blood............

Is there, like, two different discussions going on? It doesn't matter about 2 million licensed gun owners in Canada if the "enforcement end of the jack boot" keeps everybody in line. Seems to be working. How come every time there's a mass shooting (breaking records monthly) down there all you nice people defend your licensed guns up here? They got a big problem, us not so much. Let's keep it that way.

2 million licensed gun owners in Canada? The streets must be running with blood............

Handguns severely restricted. Assault-type weapons severely restricted. Open-carry prohibited. Concealed-carry prohibited except for very rare exception. Stricter licensing regime.

By your logic with all those impediments to gun ownership/use/carry in Canada OUR streets should be running with blood, yet by comparison with that place you seem to hold holy they are not. Why is that?

IIRC deer are colour blind as well but if they aren't does your BBQ have to be camo to cook up a little venison?

In the USA they use their guns. Most countries use their brains.

PS, do you believe Orlando is a hate crime or a terrorist act?

Why can't it be both??

Let's just call it MURDER and end the labeling there.
The dead people don't care about labels but their friends and family only know of 1 label now...DEAD.

The reason one needs to classify the type of attack is because the root cause and thus the associated solutions can, or are, radically different.

But of course progressives don't want to talk about terrorists when it doesn't suit their narrative ;). Oh and lets go after guns...............

@Snobike Mike, what is it about the Canadian gun ownership experience you don't like? What tweaks if any would you recommend? A major overhaul?

Handguns severely restricted.
Right.

Assault-type weapons severely restricted.
Wrong. Aside from the AR-15 (specifically) and the AK-47, it's pretty much a free-for-all.

But we know rifles are seldom used in crimes anyway, so the recent abolishment of the long gun registry by the Cons was a step in the right direction towards easing unnecessary restrictions and red tape on law abiding gun owners.

The next time you hear Mr Trudeau or any of his lackeys talking about reinstating a long gun registry or getting rid of evil black looking rifles, please at least just roll your eyes. These types of guns don't kill Canadians.

@Snobike Mike, what is it about the Canadian gun ownership experience you don't like? What tweaks if any would you recommend? A major overhaul?

I don't know about him, but I'm irked by the constant dark cloud hanging over law abiding and licenced Canadian gun owners. The system we have in place clearly works, we don't have a gun violence epidemic up here. Of the 600 average annual homicides, 1/3rd is by way of gun (predominantly handgun) and the other 2/3 are knives or other means.

So with that said, every time the goddamn liberals get on their soapbox and demand further restrictions I cringe. They're not guided at all by common sense or logic.

I was watching cp24 the other day. So much misinformation. Only appealed to the gun fearing masses
