2023 Day Trips!

Wife and kiddos away for the day on Thursday so I’ve got a day to kill. Other than Bancroft I haven’t been much other places so trying to pick a direction. Bogie, Bala, hmmm.

I'm in Welland, bike is in Ottawa. :(

Kind of wish I had towed it down now.

The good news is my father in law seems to be recovering well from his transient stroke. The bad news is the doctors want to poke and prod the old fellow, while he just wants to go home.

Hope the children haven't been partying non stop since we left.

Muskoka roads are in great shape except for Southwood. It’s far and will keep you occupied for an long time:)

Calabogie roads however are in better shape!

Halliburton stuff is good too…

Babylon Five!

Griffith and Ompah are always nice.

I've heard that there's work on Tatlock, so if you like gravel that might be a place to head.

I haven’t done much of Muskoka (don’t k ow it overly well) or been through Bala in a while so maybe I’ll head there. Thanks

Yeah Bala has a bunch of construction in town, mostly around the old church.

Bit of a scorcher today in the afternoon but a beautiful day to be riding still. I ended up heading Northeast as I forgot I needed to be home by 5 for kiddos soccer plus with the 32c temps today I didn't want to risk being in construction.
They're paving more of the north end of Lower Faraday but it's mostly in great shape with no delays. Elephant Lake Rd is in good shape then over to the lookout just before Combermere for a quick snack as I've never actually taken a look up there (quite nice view actually). A few laps of Old Barrys Bay and another couple laps of Matawatchan Rd, all in good shape and no traffic. 700km at the end of the day.
I caught up to a 'wing (iirc) and saw a weird post looking thing on the rear right side. Upon passing him I saw it was actually a walking cane in a makeshift tube of a holder. Respect.

Great weather today for a great ride.
Did a little bit of Muskoka today with a few buddies.

Nice run! Hey curious, what is the bike on the far right?

BTW there is a pulled pork place in Burk Falls where the tourist info place is.

The bike is a Tiger Explorer 1200

We didn't make it to Burks falls and If I'm going there I'm having the famous pierogi.

I installed a whole bunch of stuff on the Norden, crash bars, locking GPS mount and we took her out for a shake-down run all over the Interior.

Did some on-road stuff, the always-scenic 5A to Princeton

There's a nice bakery that we always stop in at in Princeton called Thomasina's. Ordered a couple of slices of amazing fruit pie!

Back on the road!

Did some off-road around Hedley

Stopped often to take lots of pics - the interior is so scenic!

Neda reports that the Norden handles great on gravel. The Expedition's upgraded suspension has so many adjustable settings, we're going to spend some time next week to properly dial it in for her weight and her style of riding. But before that, I have to first RTFM...

Oh, as for my bike, this is my first time off-road with the new Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires. The gravel was pretty well graded, so I don't have a good sense as to how good it is yet. Will have to hit some more gnarlier trails!

Never get sick of this view!

Didn't get a chance to test out the crash bars - which is a good thing! But the Touratech locking mount + Zumo XT proved to be too heavy off-road. The mount was vibrating up and down so much that one of the screws loosened and fell out and the whole thing almost hit the TFT display. We took off the GPS, removed the other screw and zip-tied the whole thing so it could make it home in one piece.

Gotta figure out a way to brace this mount against the TFT display underneath it. Might have to fab something up.

All in all, a great way to test out everything before our longer road trips. Almost 400 kms all over the BC Interior! A bit of pavement, a bit of gravel, great dual-sport day!
