2012 Auto Show

Re: GM still facing huge pension shortfall

Thousands of jobs, 10's of thousands of retirees that the govt collects taxes on.
The entity here is GM of Canada, GM is USA.
GM is the only auto company that has a Design/Engineering center in Canada.
Parkwood estates in Oshawa was owned by one of the founders of GM I believe.

I wonder if Honda or Toyota would get the same. Because they manufacture the civic and Lexus RX350 in Ontario. Showa also manufacture the suspension for the civic, right in Schomberg Ontario

No no, you're totally right and not biased at all. Honda comes up with nothing but lookers:

An ugly car for sure but nowhere near the horror that is the Asstec.

"Oh look, it comes with a tent! Lets get that!"

Every top ten ugliest cars of all time has the Aztec. Even though most of them are American cars from much earlier in time like the Pacer, Gremlin, Pinto etc.

They even tried again with this abortion.

Because when you hit rock bottom, you can only go up apprently. :)

Re: GM still facing huge pension shortfall

I really don't understand. How domestic is GM compared to lets say Honda or Toyota. Isn't it American? What does GM have to do with our economy?
I'm so lost

GM is squeezing the life out of Ontario with all these bailouts and taxpayer funded pensions. This next round of bailouts will be the last straw to most people in Ontario.

That Accord Crosstour is really a terrible vehicle. Has anyone managed to get into the back seat via the rear doors? Wow.. I think they've sold 24 of those in Canada in the last 3 years.. I hope the guy that brought that to market has been fired..along with the Asstec guy.. :-)

how many retirees do they have? We are talking about 40000-60000 high paying pensions.......that's alot of tax $$$. Much higher than taxes from the current workers.

Looking out your rear view mirror isn't important at all.

At least you can go really fast in the porsche, so people really can't get a good look at it.

Speaking of abortions........... here's another gem from the great minds at GM. Cause the average american moves a bookcase or two every day.

GMC ENVOY XUV 2004-2005
"A weird combination of pickup truck and SUV, the Envoy XUV was distinguished by a retractable rear roof section, creating an open-topped load area that could accommodate tall objects. Customers didn't know what to make of the homely, expensive creation, and the market for people carrying small trees and tall case clocks proved small. GM expected to sell 90,000 annually (for freakin real???) but managed only 12,000 in 2004 and put the XUV out of its misery early in 2005"

2008 Acuras:

"But therein lies the problem, systematically we are seeing once great looking cars being transformed into ugly, hideous cars.* It is as if each car line was taken to the tip top of the tallest ugly tree and then allowed to free fall out of the tree hitting each and every branch on the way down."

Really? Lets take a look at two of Acuras most popular "ugly, hideous cars".

In the US, in ONE MONTH, January 2012, traditionally a slow selling month, Acura sold 2,283 TL's and 2861 MDX's.

The MDX is entering, what, its 5th year of the current "ugly" design theme? How many Envoy XUVs did GM sell again in its 12 month lifespan, before prevailing minds wisely gave it the ax?

Really, my post was about the 2008 model year.
They redesigned the 2012 to improve the sales numbers did they not?

The Envoy XUV was just an option, the Envoy/TrailBlazer as a whole was selling 10000+ a month

Every carmaker does a MMC (mid cycle model change) and freshens up the vehicle.

The point is..... people keep buying them.

Apart from the grill and a set of wheels, would you not agree the overall design language of the vehicle is the same?
