Working out! Fitness! Nutrition!

What types of protein powders are you guys using? I've checked bodybuilding.com as they seem to have competitive prices. Any other places worth looking into?
My goal is to have a cut, athletic body seeing as I play volleyball a few times a week. So in terms of powders, I think I'm looking for 'low-carb' protein shakes seeing as I'm not trying to bulk too much. Also I go to the gym around 9pm then basically go straight to bed so I don't really want to take in huge calories at that time of day.

Everyone's definition of athletic body is going to be different. Thus you will get widely varying advice. If you want a six pack diet is everything. And results take time. You aren't going to get shredded over time. It takes months of dedication to your diet. If you just want to lose the soft look you don't have to diet for as long, and intensity depends on how quickly you want results vs how much you are willing to give up.

I am of the school of thought you should lift heavy as often as you can (be smart about this, don't injure yourself). Good compound exercises, squats, deads, and bench. And cardio is key. It all boils down to calories in vs calories out. But lifting heavy will make sure you look "athletic" by the end of it and not just skinny.

This is what I would define as an athletic body

+1 to everything Freestyle said.

With regards to protein, find a brand you like (ie: that's cheap, tastes good, and doesn't make you sick if you drink lots of it) and stick with it. My two favorite brands are Optimum Nutrition and Ultimate Nutrition for cost vs taste vs protein content. Although the cost does seem to be going up....

Also building bigger muscles increases the 'furnace' with which you burn calories when not working out. I know anyone who works out knows this but I was shocked talking to co-workers trying to lose weight who didn't comprehend the importance of weight training to weight loss over just spending hours on the treadmill. Muscles burn calories away from the gym.

"Ive done some MMA when i was younger, my humble opinon, boxing is far superior to any style of MMA that is taught. A mix of both is the best that one can do in fighting. back in the day, i did the same boxing was my main sport and then got into MMA.

Unconscious-- i doubt it but i dont know your skill set or how many years you been doing."

I'm more of a striker myself, but let me tell you boxing is only superior when you're striking because of the refined crispness of the technique...on the ground its a whole different ballgame. try throwing punches off your back and see how it works, and all that bobbing and weaving while standing in the pocket is gonna get you kicked or kneed in the gut. Also if a dudes even half decent and gets you in a submission its only a few seconds before lights out.

I used to go to Atlas Boxing, it's on St.Clair close to Dufferin. I want to go back to it, it was the best work out ever.

iv tried them all, even bought more then one flavour to blend together to change the taste, what i have learned is that in a matter of week they all taste like ****. One big thing i recommend to people is a good pre-work out shake (DO NOT TAKE TOO MUCH). I always have had much higher intensity and better workouts with it. Overdoing it leads some nasty if not painful toilet time after the gym. Diet is more important to dial in (or get rid of) foods that are causing the complete opposite look you want. Get rid of fast foods and garbage before spending money on protein, bcaa's, glutamine etc.

Another big thing for those that do not eat the veggies or fruits they should, go to popeyes ( I hate GNC) and pick up Veggie Greens, and Phyto berrys. Both under 20 a bottle and last a month at least. One scoop VG to 1/2 scopps PB, will give you the fruits and veggis you are lacking.

Also having talked to professional body builders, a good Multi Vit is also a very important part of keeping healthy.

Ya but they can afford to bulk like that. Not so much if you are natty.

clen is some scary **** but apperently works good lol.

works amazing, tough to find this time of the year, isnt cheap and can be tough on the body depending on dosage

I really like GNC's Kool Whey Peach Mango and Lemonade flavours. Stuff tastes pretty much like juice to me.

Also +1 on the weight training for weight loss. I always go as heavy as I can when I hit the weights. I really dont see the point of the low weight high rep nonsense...

GNC = big buck$ though.

It works but I have to disagree with you here. 10-12 reps shapes, shreds and cuts whereas 4-6 builds strength and mass. Over 12 is getting into endurance/cardio territory. It's pretty well proven over many bodybuilders. As well, if you do few reps you will not build your endurance very high, which is fine if you have a fair bit of cardio mixed in. I find that kettlebells and plyometrics are the best for weight loss for me... my metabolism is so high that I am almost dizzy for a few hours after them.

You are contradicting yourself here. Plyometrics basically reflects the intensity of lifting heavy/low reps. Your metabolism will be heightened with heavy lifting because lifting heavy increase your metabolism for longer after a work out than a lower intensity work out would result in.

And your claims of "being proven over several bodybuilders" is bs. TONs of bodybuilders lift heavy while cutting. And only walk for cardio.

Please if you are going to refute something like that present studies from pubmed or other credible sources.

"10-12 reps shapes, shreds and cuts whereas 4-6 builds strength and mass. " like that didn't just come straight out menshealth or some other womens magazine.

Cutting and "shredding" is a direct result of diet. Not the number of reps you do. Also endurance increases with strength.

No way, didn't get the creapo vibe from at all, plus it would be really hard fro him to do something like that since his wife Gina and son Armond are there all the time. My friend Sandy came out to there too. She is pro and the first ever Canadian champ.

Precision Iso-Pro Low Carb protein shake is yummy. Got mine from the No Carb shop in Markham. I've only tried the banana one so far but it's pretty good. I can't remember what I payed though.

Only part I disagree with is the endurance increasing with strength...
