Working out! Fitness! Nutrition!

Omfg...that's cruel.

I just ate a greek salad >_>

Crappy thing, is that with all of this, I'm still not a trim dude, and I don't even eat all that bad, and when I am able to have a routine I eat nearly perfect. I'm trying to figure it out what I am not doing right, it has to be nutrition, but I'm just not finding where I'm going wrong with it... It could be dairy products, but I'm usually under 750ml of skim milk through the day and a serving of yogurt per day. Actually has me wanting to have a sit down with a nutritionist.
The way I'm built doesn't help as I'm stocky so any bit of fat looks worse than it really is. I don't really want to put on any more muscle, just get rid of the extra weight so I'm faster on the track.

Can you write out exactly what you're eating, including exact amounts on a typical day? I could take a look for you and see if I can offer some insight. I'm no nutritionist and I only really know my own body, but maybe I'll notice something you don't. PM me if you want.

There is also, other factors, such as hormonal that contribute quite a bit and some people need to be more perfect with their diet than others. If your T3 and T4 hormone levels are really low (slow metabolism) than you might need a perfect diet and crazy amounts of cardio to loose weight. Other factors also contribute also such as stress levels, amount of sleep, etc. There is definitely a mental component to hormone levels. I bet stress is pretty high for you considering that you're in the army.

Some people are also much more affected by things such as sodium, gluten, potassium levels, etc. I'm lucky in that I don't really have to worry about stuff like this. From my experience, the only thing that seems to matter for me is total calories and macros, and even than I only really keep a rough count of carbs, eat high protein and I loose. I completely stopped worrying about meal timing and I can honestly say that it made zero difference.

Thanks, I'll PM you about it.

I did have thyroid hormones checked in high school, even back then my mom (a nurse) thought something was up.
Sodium in my diet is pretty low, I eat whole, unprocessed foods most of the time.

My job is most of the time low stress. And even when I am in a stressful environment, I'm not that stressed. I'm just a really laid back person. Sleep... I could get more of it for sure.

Would be freakin' awesome to be 30lbs lighter for race season and be able to strut around the beach a bit this summer for the first time in a long time.

Dude in the grey shirt reminds me of crossfit guys for some reason.

Probably the I'm better than you attitude and the forcing Paleo on others. I feel like I just described my brother, a crossfit drone. Thankfully I'm too poor to do crossfit enough to become a drone lol.

Although I don't agree with pushing anything on other people, I gotta say that eating paleo/primal for myself and my spouse has been wonderfully successful. We're two of the leanest people I know, and we never go hungry. I just think it's worth mentioning, because nearly every other woman I know is constantly bitching about losing weight, and never seem to be able to.

Anyone here have a crossfit membership? care to share what its like? im debating signing up, just want to hear what its like

I was with a club for 4 months, but haven't been in 2 since it costs a lot. I find I work out a lot harder there then I would by just working out by myself at the gym. They push you past wanting to die of exhaustion. They do try to get everyone to switch to Paleo to optimize the results. It is a lot more expensive than a normal gym, cost about $130/month (differs on city basis) for unlimited, but unlike normal gyms there is always someone there coaching you and making sure you're doing proper technique.

Not long ago in this thread crossfit came up... Read it and see what people say about it.
Do your research (lots of good links came up in this thread about it) and you will see that it isn't what these people claim it to be. Good workout? Sure, if you don't injure yourself doing it.

Every department in the US military has debunked it and won't use it. The Canadian Forces has also made it clear that crossfit is not a recommended form of PT. It's way too easy to injure yourself by doing these movements and focusing on high reps and not good, clean ability.

There are other things to do that are fun, and you are less likely to mess yourself up.

I've been a Crossfit member in the past, both when Xfit was starting out here in TO and a few years ago in Mississauga. I'm not a member anymore because I don't currently need what Crossfit will give me, although I appreciate what the workouts did for me at the time.

I know there's a lot of bias against it on this website - but personally I gotta say, that it worked VERY well in terms of getting me in shape for a specific PT test I was training for. Also, some of the fittest people I've ever seen are Crossfit practitioners. In terms of injuries - I *did* chip a front tooth learning how to clean and jerk, but other than that, I have not seen much in terms of physical injuries. The two gyms I've been members of are extremely conscious of form and technique.

Ultimately I think it's a personal thing. I don't practice Xfit anymore because it's ultimately not something I enjoy, although I can't dispute the benefits.

I say go and see what it's about, and decide for yourself. If you can't try a class or two without signing a contract, then I'd run the other way, regardless of what kind of gym it is.

There's one guy missing from this pack:

"The Lurker"

This guy goes to the gym at least 3 times a week to exercise... his right to visually harass women wearing tights and short shorts.
Nah you missed the socializer...although he's kinda close to the coach... but he's basically texting and talking to everybody while doing cardio at low pace not breaking a sweat
