Working out! Fitness! Nutrition!

My buddy wanted me to take some course with him that some guy he met runs but the course basically teaches you like a hundred ways to kill someone with your bare hands and with small weapons. It sounds cool on paper but basically EVERY move he teaches is meant to be lethal. It's like completely useless unless you want to kill someone.

BRB, dude at bar throws a punch at you and you instinctively rip his throat out and go to jail for murder. lol

oh please. sounds like the ultimate poser " training"

in jiu jitsu competitions you submit people so im sure there could be the equivalent in this sport

The one thing I liked about BJJ sparring when I tried it years ago is that you can pretty much go all out and use full strength and be aggressive (as long as you stick to grappling of course). I've never tried sparring in any striking discipline but I imagine you at the very least have to hold back a little since you could hurt your sparring partner. In BJJ, as long as you stop when they tap it seems difficult to actually do serious damage to someone.

Thats sort of the problem with many traditional martial arts that are learnt for the sake of self-defense... You can't even really spar let alone practice 100%.. And when you are training self-defense type sequences you can basically only do drills. And with the drills, the attacker attacks in a certain predictable way and the defender generally runs through sequences that only work if the attacker stays still while you pull a multi-move combo on him. Realistically they would never work in a fight. You do learn some tricks but without a good base of at least knowing how and where to punch and basic grappling, you are in trouble.

I've been meaning to start BJJ but dudes be sharing all kinds of skin infections with each other... Ewww.

You need to go to a clean place and shower right after. Don't roll with anyone who is dirty ,smells or has a dirty Gi. Any Gracie sanctioned place will be clean.

You can go all out yes unless some clown throws a sub on you so fast you can't tap before you are unconscious or injured. But you are right BJJ is essentially as close as you can come to full fighting compared to any other martial art or combat sport

Got another random-*** question for you guys: how do you keep your face slim while bulking? I see jacked dudes at like 12% boy fat who still manage to have chiseled faces while it starts getting so noticeable for me past 8%. Is it just a case of genetics (ie some people have their fat go straight to their belly/butt/etc.)?

****ing annoying 'cause I basically have to hover around 6 or 7% to keep a chiseled face, but I don't think it looks very healthy. Bugs the **** out of me 'cause I already look young to begin with, and (apart from the bigass muscles) I look even younger when I start bulking. WTF

Yeah, it's pretty much genetic just like the rest of your fat distribution on your body. Personally, I think I look BETTER on the face with a little bit of fat. I think around 8% is the sweet spot for me. Anything under that and I look like I just escaped from auschwitz lol I've had this discussion before online and this is the pics I used to demonstrate this:

Left: Around 12% bf
Right: Around 5-6% bf

You be the judge.

Your avatar looks better

The one on the right definitely doesn`t look as good. makes you look sickly like you have no meat on your bones

Which brings the point, i just went to the gym. Did legs: squats=4 plates, quads, hamstring, calves. Plus ran 800m on the treadmill. I feel like a machine! I feel good!

Sent from my tablet using my paws

Dojos will differ in the way they train you and the level they train you to. But ask any serious martial artist and they will tell you that you only block to put yourself in a more advantagous position to strike. Ask Lyoto Machida if traditional martial arts works in a fight.

Block and punch all in one;

you might want to watch that again Ralph macchio....Bader ran face first into the punch, there is no block only a straight right. And there is nothing traditional about lyotos fighting style except the karate stance, he uses all styles as any MIXED martial artist does

I'm not gonna split hairs or even argue the toss as we all see things differently and it's just my opinion. What he does resembles a technique I'm taught at my dojo. But, like I said, all dojos teach different things and we all see (or don't see) what we like when watching fighting skills.

We shall see all the resolutioners as I like to call them January 1st.. Unfortunately it only lasts for about 3 weeks for most of them...

But, fortunately for you, it means only a few weeks of putting up with more people in the gym.
