Working out! Fitness! Nutrition!

I'm gonna go ahead and be nice and glib about this. Fat people need emotional support so that they can feel better about themselves. Awesome people don't.

Feelings are dumb. :D

Course they do. They just too far up their own arse to realise it.

So I'm on my second week of "Winter Shred" competition (I think it's 8 weeks). It was $100 to enter and there are total of 17 people in the challenge. $1000 first place, $500 second. Don't ask why they set up winter shred in the winter but it works for me either way...I have a vacation booked in December to go down to Caymen Islands.

Right now down to 157lbs

Oh I see, so you are one of those people that automatically labels anyone in shape as stuck up ******** with their heads up their ***** simply based on the way they look? That's cool.

It's like every day you're on your period. Calm down.

Ignorance is bliss! As long as your head isn't up there all the time, of course. Moderation and all that.....

In shape? I thought you said you couldnt even run 20 minutes:p

So ive been doing boxing training this past month and i'm loving it.

Since im getting better at my technique (somewhat) and getting a better workout out of it ive decided to increase my personal workouts

So ill be looking at 3 days doing 1hour30 mins of boxing

And then ill be building my own interval trainings for shorter workouts aiming at different body parts each day. I'm taking stuff from different websites, training programs (bloom to fit, bodyrock, etc etc)
I love how jump rope makes me save time vs running ...+ helps a lot more with my impact-weary knees lol

What do you guys think of IIFYM (If it fits your macros) vs eating clean?

Doing some research on it and I find that the guys touting IIFYM are dudes that have been working out for years and have the muscle already built. I don't know enough about it to really say, though. I've been eating clean but if it's really all just about calories at the end of the day, then that means I don't have to make sacrifices if I can be eating out and still getting insane results.

I don't think you can really do a "versus" comparison with the idea of IIFYM vs eating clean. There is no comparison. IIFYM is bro-science at its finest. I am sure the guys that buy into that, probably don't fully subscribe to it in that they probably still try to eat healthy meals mixed in with some trash but in principle, its not a good idea to ignore the importance of proper nutrition, getting your vitamins & minerals along with a lot of healthy compounds found in veges.

The idea of IIFYM basically says " I don't care about vitamin/mineral deficiencies"... Just take a look at what Zinc does for your body and ask whether that matters to you or not: aids in the release of testosterone, growth hormone, IGF1; supports reproductive health and fertility (including sperm count and shooting huge loads);supports immune system; helps with healing etc...

Multi-vitamin?

I think with IIFYM it's possible to look great but have high cholesterol, etc. I think if your goal is to be healthy than IIFYM is kinda bad. BRB, eating all trans-fats cause a gram of fat is a gram of fat. If you're lazy, can't cut out "bad" foods, and your goals are purely weight control than it might work for you.

I don't really care about eating clean, I just keep my Calories, Protein and Carb intake where they should be and avoid exceeding 110g of fat per day. I'm packing on muscle like that (also supplementing with Whey Protein, Casein and BCAAs + my daily multi and fish oil). I try to do it as much as possible mind you, but I'll sneak in a pop tart here or there. I think I've eaten out twice this month already.

Come to think of it I'm only bad around lunch time which is when I'm stuck on campus. Breakfast is always the same, dinner is always the same. (3 eggs+3 whites + oatmeal or Kashi cereal, and 10-12oz. of meat + raw or steamed greens + salad).

Multi-vitamin?

Not totally sh!tting on multivitamins but the dosages of many of the individual vitamins/minerals are pretty low. For example, most multivitamins contain like 90mg of Vit C which is really hardly anything and less than 1000IU of Vitamin D (prolly only 400-900iu's), while some current research advocates 1000IU per 25lbs of bodyweight or more conservatively somewhere in the range of 2000-5000IU's. Furthermore, not all sources are equal and some multivitamins contain cheaper, less bioavailable (more difficult to absorb) forms of minerals.

If you don't eat your veges/fruits, you also would not be getting any carotenoids (those compounds that give fruit/veg colour) and other beneficial compounds that will keep you healthy.

Not saying IIFYM doesn't work because by definition, you could be filling your macro's with good stuff or even "okay" stuff and doing well but I really doubt anybody would be at there best fitting there macros by eating skittles, oreos and drinking soy protein shakes. So the idea is generally kind of silly isn't it?

Would you believe I'm eating one right now?

i'm rocking out to mrs fields cookies and miss vickies chips and i got muay thai today....crap lol

I normally do muay thai 3 to 4 times a week, run/hike once in a while and hit the gym once a week...

You have a good diet going there sir. Keep it up.
How old are you? The reason I'm asking is might wanna add Test booster (2 pills with breakfast and 2 with dinner) for additional muscle growth.

Thanks for clearing that up. It seems like IIFYM does work if you're just about putting on muscle. But whether or not you'll be healthy is a different question.

Toshison, you seem to know a lot about nutrition...could you possibly send me in a direction for reading? The only supplements I'm taking are BCAAs 20 minutes before working out. I eat a lot of different vegetables, so I'm not sure if I need all of the vitamins (but I'm sure I'm definitely lacking in some. There's no way I have all my bases covered). I'm considering taking oximega greens, but I'm a little conflicted because I'm trying to stay away from supplements as much as I can.

I found this article about genetic muscular potential; it's a pretty interesting read: http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/muscle-gain/whats-my-genetic-muscular-potential.html

Or if you're willing to measure your ankle, wrist, and know your height...Casey Butt’s Maximum Muscular Potential Calculator

Yes. And other parts of your body as well.

And to feel like youve been sitting in a sauna for an hour because of all the sweating you do.

Theres lots of jumping involved in that program, globe jumps, frogs jumps, jump-tuck, burpees, etc etc etc
Keep at it hun! What day are you at in the program now?
