Working out! Fitness! Nutrition!

Fwwwwakk, just hit 445 lbs on the squat today....four and a half plates.....here I come. Hope everyone else is reaching their goals.

That's impressive man. Congrats!

I haven't done super heavy squats in a while. I've been experimenting with lighter weight and higher rep/volume squats lately. It's horrible...I don't recommend it.

My legs seem to like them, though. :(

Just a side question...
What's a fair price to pay now days for GoodLife?
I'm thinking of joining, my work has a corporate plan which is $45/month after taxes. I find that kinda steep. Is that great/good/normal/bad/ugly pricing?

I'm paying around $35, corporate member. Goodlife

Just started another 'martial art'
Signed up for a free month at The Huf in port credit! So im starting with the late (9pm class) and Kane is kicking my *** with that workout, loving it.
Im ordering more protein and im thinking of throwing in a pre-workout drink... ive been reading about it, reading about the ingredients in them and ive decided to go with ON's Platinum PRE... seems to be mostly ingredients i can read and seems to be cleaner that other alternatives (ie. that give you the *****!!!) ill keep you guys posted as to if its of good quality or crap

On a side note i use Dymatize Elite 7 Fusion as my protein (7-protein blend) AND I LOVE IT, best taste evar!!!!

i have one can of isoflex left, as I'm trying to get out of the whole processed protein shake crap. The consensus seems to be that serious lifters only drink it when they don't have real food lying around. I'm going to stay on the multivitamin though as my diet isn't perfect.

Thanks Rocker...
That's including Taxes I assume?

It sucks that my corp plan is so far off. It does include Towel service though, but I don't think it's worth $10/month more.
I would sign up for $35 for sure.

When I went to the gym I paid $40 per month at Goodlife. I would assume that a corporate plan would have better rates, no?

I'm paying $26 every two weeks. Pretty sure that's the standard right now which is closer to $60/month.

Well seems like the price should be under $40/month for sure. I was hoping closer to $30, but seems like $35 is a good rate. I will have to talk to the HR contact at work to find out why our corp rate is so much higher? And that's on a madatory paycheck deductions for a year.

Doesn't seem too stellar a deal...

Upon further investigation it was $33.
This includes towel service.
Tax included.

It's a friend's corporate membership and I'm I joined their group. Wish I could help u out.

The thing that pisses me off, is gym membership should be tax free to motivate all the inactive ppl. Something like the "child activity" benefit

I dunno if it's the same gym but my buddy joined some kick boxing gym in port credit and was trying to talk me into joining but mehhhh, I like lifting. He seems to like it but there is no way I'm going to stop/reduce lifting to do martial arts and if I've taken up martial arts before on top of lifting 4-5 times a week and just found it to be way too much physically and schedule wise. Mehhhh, some people get bored and need new things to stay interested. I'm fine with doing "borring" gym workouts indefinitely.

They have an actual gym with stations and weights and what not (theres a basement with a ton of equipment) so you can subscribe to the gym and do the classes on the side (3 boxing classes every weekday et 12, 7, 9) and then muay thai twice a week, same goes for kickboxing.
One of the assistant managers told me that you still do your own strength training... but lets just say that boxing is a good cardio and conditioning class.
Some of the muay thai classes can make you puke if youre really going at it (hearsay)

I use to train muay thai concurrently with a fairly intense weight training routine. Recovery becomes a huge issue after you're past the beginner phase...especially if you have a job. I miss the martial arts but I've since given it up to focus on pure weight training with a bodybuilder style mindset.

I guess it depends on your goals and what you want to achieve ultimately. Martial arts are an awesome way to stay fit in the general sense. Plus you get to kick stuff. I miss kicking things the most.

Get a job as a bouncer!
And yeah recovery is very important ... My goals are lean and strong muscle with awesome cardio.

I pay 42 a month with taxes in for hte most basic membership and my goodlife's in the middle of a ghetto. I get towel service, but it would be even more if I officially got towel service.

If you're really on a budget, see if there's a "Fit 4 Less" near you. $10 a month. It's a sister company of goodlife & the reason it's so cheap is because there's no personal trainer, no shower, no sauna, no towels, etc. It's just a gym with everything you need to actually work out.

I just checked out the website. Seems legit. I should swing by for a tour

It's legit & I already named the "catch" (if you can even call it that). They're also open 24/7. Most goodlifes are open 24/4

I'd switch over if I didn't need the sauna. My friends have switched and can't believe that I can justify paying an extra 30 a month to sweat in a hot room with other dudes lmao.

Gym but boxing, kickboxing and muay thai gym

Looks like a cool place. I asked cuz I live in the area and have never heard of it.

I've pretty much quit the gym-thing and focus primarily on martial arts right now (goju ryu karate). It's a great all around conditioner, and I feel totally wiped afterwards. But I can see why adding anything else would feel like overkill - there's no way I'd have the time or energy to go to the gym in addition to MA (that's probably because I'm getting old....).

Wow. Why can't more gyms be like this?? I know I never had any particular use for any of the extra crap that gyms offered.

Wow that's really good. I really should have a chat with my HR.

Thanks for the recommendation. There is actually one which is not too far from my home. So I will go check it out. $10/month is totally doable!

This fits me perfectly! I never use the other facilities in the gym, only the lockers. It creeps me out showering with other dudes.

By the way does it stock a full weight rack & presses? Thats all i need

Thx
