Windows 8 anyone?

The improvement in speed is already worth it for me. And what "cloud" are you talking about? They're not forcing you to use skydrive or anything really. And how does it cost more over time? I paid a flat rate to get a product code and thats the end of that...

Speed? You're kidding yourself. Or it's on a newer, faster computer. Nobody has tested the two and determined that W8 is faster in objective tests. It's slower in some ways and minutely faster in others. I'm calling B.S. on this one.

What you're missing about "the cloud" is that it is ALL OVER THE COMPUTER. The store, the e-mail, Windows Live, Windows Games Live, Skydrive, Windows Mail Live, Skype, etc. etc. and if pushing it in your face doesn't constantly work, they'll just make it more and more difficult to ignore it with future releases. As it sits right now, Win8 represents a cash-cow release... it's obviously not well thought-out, it's half-cooked and there are about FIVE programming APIs/UIs on the system - .Net (1,2,3), Win32, Win64, Metro/Modern, PowerShell and you will need all of them if you use the same apps... and you'll have to know how to switch between Modern and Windows to get to features and programs. But, it's got a store... and it's got Windows Cloud... Not to mention that multi-desktop still hasn't arrived, so you can't reliably use both interfaces without having two monitors.

It's crap. If you can't admit it to yourself..... I'm telling everyone else the truth, because it's crap.

Its on the same computer, and i am simply stating my opinion of Windows 8.

Im sorry but did Windows 7 not have Email? Windows Live? Windows Games Live? SkyDrive? Windows Mail Love? Skype, etc? The only addition is Apps and i see nothing wrong with Apps...

Im using a dual monitor setup right now and Windows 8 seems to treat it fine... I don't even need to install an aftermarket multi-desktop client (Ultramon) unlike Windows 7...

You can make Win7 much faster just google and check youtube on things you don't need to run for a home user.
If you want to make your laptop fly replace your hard drive with a solid state. From what I have read it makes your "system" 50% faster accessing apps and files. There are good drives and cheap drives, look online for the reviews. If you are running Windows you should have no less than 4gb of ram. Try to max out your laptop ram as it's pretty cheap. Take your old laptop hard rive and put it in a $20 external case and now you have a portable drive or backup drive. Setup synch toys to backup to your new external drive.

I have not seen a valid reason to switch to Win8. I left XP because Win7 was more stable and a polished version of XP.
People buying new laptops because their machine is slow just need to do a clean reinstall of your OS. Time it with the new SSD hard drive :)

I run with a i7 Quad core, 16GB RAM, Raid 0 SSD (512GB Total Space). Windows 7 is fine but all im saying is that for $40 (Could've got it for $15 but was too late...) Windows 8 is a worth while upgrade. As for my laptop, i have a Macbook Air which defaults to SSD, and dual boots with windows 7 (soon to be windows 8 ).

Didn't need a utility for Windows 7 either. And no Windows 7 didn't come with those apps. And more importantly, Windows 8 spam you with the apps and it's store ... that's the purpose. There are ADS in a stock install of it!!

It offers nothing but frustration. There are no new, more usable features for desktops. On a tablet? Maybe. Maybe.

I bit and installed the $16.00 upgrade to 8 on my win7 laptop. Now my internet speed, both wireless and LAN, is hosed. I max out at 1.5 Mbps instead of the usual 14 Mbps on my other Win7 machine when tested on speedtest.net.

What improvement in speed? Do you use an AMD-based computer?

He's talking out his 4ss. Tom's and others show there is no meaningful speed advantage. It's outclassed for ui by its forerunners. It's a dud, meant to sell you follow-up products and not for real work. A ui should be consistent, enabling and stay out of your way.

You needed a utility if you wanted to EXTEND the taskbar instead of just mirroring it. All Windows 7 can do is duplicate it. I dont see how Windows 8 SPAMS you with the apps... i use Windows Mail, Skype, Weather, etc... If you dont like it, its only 2 clicks to uninstall (Like i said, i use most of it).

Nothing but frustration for you but i guess everyone is different. The only frustration i have is that it defaults to the Metro screen and thats about it.

Why would i talk out of my *****? I have the product and i like it. If you dont want to hear my opinion, you shouldn't be reading this thread. There is no reason to lie about my experience. Everyone gets a different experience...

Do you have Windows 8 compatible drivers? Mine works perfectly fine.

Just using the default ones from Win8. There's no exclamation marks or missing drivers in device manager. Both LAN and wireless are Broadcom.

Check the laptop manufacture website for an updated driver. Or PM me the model and i'll check it out for you.

Objective testing says it's not faster. Your opinion is of no matter.

I've used Windows xp on two monitors for the better part of ten years. Sell crazy somewhere else.

Seriously, you're talking crap.

Say what you want but sometimes you just need to know people have different opinions and tastes and not everyone believes in what you believe/think.

Sometimes you also need to be more "open". But as you said, im just talking crap so carry on and stop wasting your precious time.

P.S iOS > Android, now sue me :agave:

That was a simple fix. Found new device drivers on the HP website. Back to normal download speeds again.
