Why are hardcore Toronto bicyclists ******-bags?

How'd they catch the driver of the truck? If I saw a bunch of cyclists wipe out behind me I'd probably keep going if I didn't think I caused it. If I actually noticed.

This is what's wrong with the picture. Are you not a human being? Ever stop for someone on a motorcycle or a car that's broken down? If you 'don't notice' something like that while you're driving down the road, do us all a favor and don't drive anymore. If you're properly checking for people, hazards, and your mirrors there's no way you wouldn't see something like that.

I knocked a guy off his bke on the boardwalk in Hamilton 2 weekends ago. Riding like ***. He hit the ground pretty hard... and didn't have anything to say afterwards.

You're welcome to come up here and do that and see what I would have to say. There'd be something else hitting the ground in that case. You people with this macho attitude of "I'm riding the motorcycle or driving the car I'll win" need to go. Things like what you did thinking you're some badass could kill or severely hurt someone you fool. Grow up or you too get off the roads.

I don't see why there is animosity between cyclists and drivers in Toronto. When I cycle, I use hand signals and keep to the right. When I drive, I always check my mirror for cyclists when making right turns. Respect is mutual but many cyclists just behave like idiots.

Sadly I could say many people in cages or on bikes are the same. I can be riding alone up here on the white line of the lane and some ignorant moron has to see how close he can get his mirror to me. Why? No reason other than they're just morons.

My guess is the car drivers pay the taxes via fuel yet the roads are not the best and along comes another group that uses the roads without having to pay for anything therefore people get ticked off.

I am always amazed how one group has to go through formal testing and having to pay for the privilege to use the roadways yet another group can just hop on the road and ride a bicycle with no knowledge of traffic rules muchless insurance to cover any damage they cause.

I'm at a loss for words here. You nailed it. People on bicycles never pay taxes. WTF:confused: The law states people must ride on the road. When you rewrite that let us non tax payers know.

I check my mirrors way more than most people I know. I've been complemented on it by people (which is odd). I'm past a cyclist in a matter of seconds. Yes, I stop for people all the time. Stopped for a motorcyclist just 2 weeks ago in the Yukon. Why would I stop for a few fallen cyclists when they've got a group of 20 people there to assist?

When I was a kid and fell down on my bicycle I never had anyone stop or expected anyone to stop. Nor did I charge anyone. If no one hit them then I don't understand how anyone can be charged. Getting frightened and wiping out does not mean someone should be charged.

Read my post. "on the boardwalk".... I was on foot. Ride around toddlers and kids they way the 3 cyclists were.... I will certainly knock you off your bike.... Deaking(sp?) in and out of kids that were walking on the boardwalk isn't acceptable...

My bad. I didn't read walking. Can't say I blame you then. Sadly I was defensive because that attitude is how most motorists conduct themselves nowadays. I apologize for jumping the gun.

You're right, it's not like i don't have a truck and a motorcycle that I buy gas for. Does fuel tax go towards trails and MX parks for those guys that buy it for their dirt bikes? Just because someone is riding a bicycle doesn't mean they don't have a automobile.

And the ones that only have a bicycle?
So let's say I am riding my bicycle and run into the side of your motorcycle as you are sitting in your lane waiting for the lights to change. I knock you over, now what. You ask me for id, I tell you I have none. In fact I just ride away from you before you get up.
Who pays for your damages now?

Just like the jackasses that go flying through on pathways as if they are in a race. There are old people, kids, and animals just enjoying the pathway but then you hear these yahoos blazing up ringing their bells. They have no way of stopping in time if a small dog or worse a 3 year old just pulls away is standing on the other side of the pathway. I am referring to pathways like they have along the waterfront in the Beaches/Beach.

Consider the taxes you pay to drive on the road a means of funding fixes and repairs for those roads. Vehicle traffic plays a huge role in the degradation of roads, naturally, because they are tonnes of steal running over the same strip of concrete over and over again, for days, and months, and years, and decades. Not to mention the mass of poorly maintained, fluid leaking, tire popping, barrier smashing, rust buckets which trample down roadways.

My bicycle weighs less than 10 pounds, and has tires an inch thick, which maybe covers 10-20km a day. That's unbelievably insignificant in terms of road wear.

And if I come smashing into the side or back of your motorcycle and manage to knock you over (and damage your bike), you can rest assured that I won't be getting up with any sort of enthusiasm and you'll have plenty of opportunity to keep me from taking off.

And don't for a second delude yourself into thinking that the taxes you pay on your fuel goes DIRECTLY into a fund to maintain and repair roads. It gets lost and recycled in the bureaucratic mess like all other taxes. Taxes that everyone pays on everything, all the same.

I call BS.

This is sub 11 lbs. I'm pretty sure you didn't spend the kind of coin you'd need to to go sub 10

So someone can walk into Canadian Tire buy a bicycle and just hop on to the same roadways as the people that had to first write a test then do a road test to demonstrate they are able to operate their vehicle safety as well as navigate the roadways safely.
Oh, and you must have insurance.

I can care less about this, the car will always win.

When cars first appeared on the roads they were required to have a flag man walk in front of them to warn the current existing road users (horses and bicycles) of their approach, so your argument (including your feeble inevitable follow up arguments) is invalid.

In Calgary the police would actually stop you and issue you a ticket and if you pulled the no id on me thing look out. I guess that's what happens where you have a city with cops who do their job though. Nothing Toronto would know anything about. Also that doesn't reflect every cyclist. That's like saying the nut licker who was doing a wheelie on the 403 in the news is a representation of every motorcycle rider.

As for the 10lb bike comment I want to see it. I have 15 and change lb ungodly expensive road bikes and can't imagine wheeling around Toronto on a 10lb machine.

Cool! It's rare to have a living relic to tell us how things were back then.

Same person who pays if a car knocks down your bike and takes off, or if a pedestrian pushes it over and takes off. Why is this a special problem for cyclists?

Hey, like I said. I can care less but I am with Raginduck on the yahoos that zip around little kids and in parks with lots of people traffic. The car will always win the fight.
Why is the vehicle/bicycle on the road not mandated to have proper head lights and tail lights.
It's pitch black and they are wearing black riding around. I have seen a few times downtown driver missing a bike my a few inches or braking at the last moment because the Ninja bikes just popped up.

All I am saying is if you are using the road then you need to pass a basic written test like the rest of us and ensure your bicycle is subjected to the same standards as the other vehicles on the road. It makes it safer for all involved.
