Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

I get where Tim is coming from. My winter tires have been on over a month. I'd rather be stupid prepared than stupid unprepared.

Yeah they got slammed. HWY 11 was closed from Washago and north, with people ditching cars etc.

The snow here pretty much melted already....
Looks like we got out of Dodge at just the right time. In the morning one of our neighbours who does a lot of the local plowing told me that Highway 11 was full of plows in ditches. Late in the afternoon the snow stopped falling for a while, I guess they had time to pull the plows out of the ditches and the same guy said that Highway 11 was one lane clear but with a ton of snow forecast for Sunday and more through the week.

I made a break for it.

Stopped in at the local Canadian Tire for a snow brush - out of about 15 people in line, probably 12 were buying the exact same snow shovel.

South of Orillia there was no snow whatsoever, while orthbound from Washago it looked like a parking lot for tractor trailers.

Made it home and got my snow tires put on.

Why is this? Winter comes every year. Learning to drive in the winter is easy. Slow down. That's it.

Must have been more then average snow fall. They called for a state of emergency up there. Plus they had power outage.

I've always changed over to snow tires in mid-October and leave them on until the end of April. We have had snow on the ground before Halloween and into April up here in Orangeville so it's best to be prepared.

This year I tried something new. I bought new All-Weather tires to replace the worn-out OEM all season tires and sold my winter set. These tires will now be on my car year-round and are winter rated with the snowflake logo. They have a tread pattern that resembles the X-Ice tires I have used for the last few winters. So far they seem good in what little snow we have had up here.:D

This was Saturday for our lift training day.

Why. Like I said comes every year. Slow down and drive to the conditions. That also means not going out if it's too bad.
Fair enough. I think many were caught off guard with such a huge amount of snow in such little time. I don't think slow would have helped. Some got lucky and missed it some were in the middle of it and were going up north or coming home. You wouldn't have know it leaving the city until you got caught in it.

How are they on ice? What little snow we had turned to a thin layer of ice.

They were good on the icy patches at the stop signs here in town. The ABS didn't trigger when stopping and I didn't notice any wheel spin on acceleration. Granted, with AWD I don't usually feel any wheel spin, the car just goes when you hit the gas.

I can't wait to test them on a snow covered road to see if they handle a four wheel power slide as well as my last set of winter tires. :D

Per chance there are some (or many) drivers that have zero previous experience with snow, never mind sub 25C temps. If you catch my drift (pun 🤓)

I think I run into a few of those on the 404 driving their 4x4s after the first real snow fall.

I hear you guys are getting some snow today.

Sorry for this, but this was off the stern of our ship at around 9am this morning in curaçao.

No motorcycle riding for me, but, yeah, I don’t think anyone’s doing that at home today either. So hey.

Some of the most fun riding I've ever done has been renting a moped at a cruise ship port of call.
