Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Got out for a few hours today, first ride since my biggie a few weeks back. Yay for heated seat, heated grips, and heated vest today.
Do you find after a long trip or on your case a looooong time in the saddle, you just ignore your bike for a few days as if it isn’t there and then you think, man it’s been a long time since I got a ride in and the big grin comes back as you roll down the driveway.
Nah, I didn’t experience that today as I heard bikes buzzing up and down the road while I was busy stuffing leaves into bags. Must be the first weekend I haven’t ridden since spring. Oy

After our two day ride back in the summer I felt that way. I didn't want to go for a ride for several days, but as soon as I hit the road it was ahh this is great. I don't typically ride on weekends and prefer the more peaceful weekday rides when there is far less traffic. However, after spending the last three days crawling around my family room floor replacing the laminate with hardwood click flooring, I am in dire need of a ride this week. It's looking good for Thursday or Friday.🤞

Ah you must be semi-retired or work flexi-hours. I took some weekdays off and found there was lot more truck traffic during that time than on the weekend. I tend to go early on the weekend and never notice that traffic is that bad. I prefer it to weekday traffic. I tend to go north and north west. Unless if I am trying to race someone for a photo tag in the east. :ROFLMAO:

A quick winter spin to Halliburton on Saturday. Temperature ranged from 1-4 degrees C.

Yeah, retired for 13 years now. I do work two days a week at the golf course / ski hill when they are operating. I'm currently between seasons so fully retired until the hill opens in December. My rides are always north from here, so I don't deal with very much traffic on weekdays.

Jealous of everyone who gets out riding today. 22 degrees and sunny in a few hours.

I had planned to ride Elephant Lake/Siberia/South Lavant/etc today but I was in rain from Havelock to Lower Faraday and with no clear skies in sight so I headed back south and pivoted to a trail day playing around in Ganaraska Forest.

Dash on the bike showed 24C on the way from Hamilton to Toronto late-morning. Slightly surreal, actually.

How about some detail about the fancy electronics? Is that what a dash looks like on a new bike? I’m stale dated.

Yes and no.

The problem I find is that I just struggle to get excited about short rides anymore, or rides to places I've been endless times before, which is pretty much anywhere in Southern Ontario east of the 400, north to Sudbury, and east to Ottawa.

Tell me we're leaving for a trip to some far flung new location tomorrow and I'll be in the garage packing in 30 seconds and ready to roll at 5AM, but suggest that we go for a ride to X destination a few hours away for lunch or whatever....meh.

Electronics are pretty similar to other modern bikes with adjustable modes, traction control, abs, etc settings. The big deal is the Rally Mode option with adjustable throttle action (think quick-turn) and the adjustable slip level that lets you power slide through the fire roads and trails at your own comfort level before saving you. The small lever at the right grip lets you save two quick access options (flick it forward I can go from Sport mode to Rally in a second or flick it back I turn on my heated grips but you can choose whatever you want the selector to do).

Long trips are the ultimate goal, but I find going to different places for 2-3 hour ride on Sat and or Sun keeps the skills sharp and something to look forward to on the weekends. After a couple of months I find repeating the places but weather is different, farmers markets different stuff to pick and sample. I hope next year life will ease up and I will hit the road for longer trips. Hope you have some planned too.

Same here. The 30 yard dash just doesn't cut it any more. Gone for days and I'm in.

Yeah, I can see how other people wouldn’t get it, but I guess it’s the long distance rider and adventurer/nomad in me. I’m glad someone else gets it though.

This year’s rides up to James Bay and down to West Virginia were insanely awesome because they were distance rides to new roads. I’m glad I was able to do them this year. As well as my iron butt which I loved but I know others think is totally insane.

To each their own.

Them: "It's too cold, I put my bike away!"

Me: "I'm still riding"

Them: "You're going to crash, your tires are like hockey pucks at anything below 10 degrees!"

Me: "Yeah, no, that's really not a thing, just ride to conditions"

Them: Something something wet leaves on road, hard tires, slippery, danger Will Robinson, danger danger! (arms flailing)

Me: "Ride to conditions"

Them: "You can't ride this time of year, you'll freeze!"

Me: "Snowmobilers are still out there at -20, how do they do it?

Them: <crickets>
