Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2018 Edition)

Not the nicest day today but a 3 hour ride from Kawarthas to Mississauga where the ST winters. Heated gear makes it relatively painless. Might get out for a ride or two in this area over the next 2 - 3 weeks depending on weather. Once the roads are salted or brined I'm done for the season.

Rode to work it was plus 3, rode home when the temp was supposed to be +5. Coldest +5 I've felt in a while., she was a chilly ride home, heated liner was cranked full.

May have to break out the balaclava for tomorrow.

I felt the same way riding home today. I've been on the bike this month in 0°C middle-of-the-night air and it didn't feel as bone-chilling cold as this afternoon's indicated +4°C. Brrr.

Damp cold ...worse than a dry high pressure system ...moisture sucks the heat out real quick.

You are right, similar to when i grew up in England, when the temps dropped into the low digits you felt it, +2 in limey land = -10 in Canada.

Was a beautiful ride in to work this morning!

roads were mainly dry. -2 when I left Port Perry, +2 at work in Vaughn. Sun started peaking out thought the clouds for a bit after sunrise. Nice and warm and comfy. No bugs!

A note for those whose bikes decompose at the first hint of salt on the roads:

I noticed last night when I rode home from work (after 9pm.) I noticed that a good part of Bloomington had been brined. I am not sure where it started (I rode Bloomington from Keele to Goodwood)but I think it was Yonge to Leslie. I am sure many more roads will shortly be brined.

Next week I see signs of a bit of a warm up. Well at least for down around the city.

Why should anyone be freezing? It is just a matter of the right gear to be warm and toasty.

I relax to and from work. No complaints whatsoever.
What's all this brine everyone is talking about. Do they do this in Halton also? Does the road turn whitish when it's brined?

I'm doing office work, and I need a break. Heading for the forks shortly.

Nobody is there, I was just there a few minutes ago. So you will ha r the whole place to yourself

It's never too cold to ride. Unless you're not dressed appropriately for the temperature. Or you don't assess road conditions accordingly.

If it was "so cold" people wouldn't get out of their houses all winter as soon as it hit -5... outside work/activities would cease, etc. but people simply dress up for the temps they have to deal with :)

Of course if there's ice on the ground, i can't do much about it since we can't stud our tires down here. Not all people ride only for the fun of it, some others do it in a more utilitarian way :)

The pictures posted by rich CH show it nicely. It tends to get fainter after a few days. I don't know if they do it in Halton but would be surprised if they don't.

It is a solution of salt water spread on the road. The good thing is that it can stop ice from forming. The bad thing is that you can't tell black-ice from roads that are simply wet from brining. (And to some the worst thing is that their bikes instantly decompose into a pile of rust at the first indication of it.) :)
