Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2018 Edition)

here i was, riding back from downtown in traffic, grateful for the "nice" weather, in the dark, with illuminated rogers center and CN tower... was really enjoying it, singing some tunes cause i was in a good mood. then as i take the final corner to get home, bike feels weird. as i arrive in front of my garage door, i feel like i'm super low, as i got a flat on my rear tire... now it wouldve happened in the last km or so of my 20km commute because i had some sketchier turns i took not even 1km before that, including the off-ramp that's supposed to be taken at 30kph

So i'm thinking that even though it's a very repairable puncture (a less than 2mm slit) i think the riding gods are trying to tell me to call it quits for the season :( i got really lucky that it happened at that point and not on the highway so i won't push my luck.
So i'll probably patch it and re-inflate it and call it a season

Was a soggy ride in to work this morning.. traffic approaching Vaughn sucked, but not a surprise since everyone freaks out when there is a little bit of rain. My GPS told me an hour delay on 400 south(I wasn't going to take it anyway) so I knew the parallel roads would be jammed as well this morning.

Weather looks like it will make for an "entertaining" ride home this eve.

Wow impressive!

Still taking the 407? Car was being thrown around all over this morning from the wind

Bikes are naturally stable in the wind. We just have to realize the bike will move around but as long as we let it there is no problem.

Since we moved work to just south of Vaughn Mills Mall I normally go Goodwood, Bloomington, Keele etc and avoid 407. 10 to 15 minutes later on rush hour commutes but lots of money saved. I'll take 407 if it is crazy traffic conditions. (Last Thursday after work I went to Rosey Toes and got him to put on new tires. It was raining and traffic was a crap show so took 407 from 400 to Donald Cousins. ). My 407 bills have dropped from around $400 a month to usually less than $50.

It's lovely out ...not horrid wind yet - just enough to make you pay attention. Up at the Forks with BrianP. Small rain squall on the way up but that should be it. Over dressed ....did not need as many layers or my heated gloves.

SUnny with cloud mix ...very refreshing

Plays out a bit differently when it's gusting. Not very stable if you're literally blown off the road ;)

Strangely enough the more relaxed you are on the handlebars the less likely you are going to be blown off the road. I have literally let go of my handlebars when riding through gusts up to 80 kph with little issue. I don't recommend you just go out and try it but very much try relaxing your grip and let the bike dance around a bit. It wants to go straight if you let it.

This video is interesting.. especially when the other rider kicks the bike and it pretty much just keeps going straight.

That's very difficult unless you are not paying attention .....the only time I can recall that almost occurring was with a rider on the Haul road in Alaska the wind was so strong he kept getting pushed closer and closer to the shoulder which is pretty much instant crash on that road....he managed to hold it but pretty hair raising.

It was fun today ....very refreshing ride and some wind to make it interesting.

You need to be wary coming out from the wind shadow of overpasses and trucks - it's just a matter of staying alert.
If you avoid riding in the wind you'll never learn.

Was planning to go out for a ride this afternoon but ended up cleaning up the garage, washing three bikes and putting them to bed. Still keeping the RD ready to go if I feel like going out for a ride.

Too bad the wind really picked up. Would be a perfect day otherwise.

Finger’s crossed that the season’s not done yet.

We've all got anecdotes, mine is that when riding a fully faired bike, being a light weight rider, the 404 on gusty days was often way too dangerous. Can also recall going down the DVP, coming to an uncovered section and being hit with a gust so hard it nearly ripped my grip off the bars. Light hands or not, that's gonna result in steering input.

Damn wind!! It could have been a really nice warm day consider we're in Nov.

In California this week for work. The weather is sooooo good. Very sad I don't have my bike with me and no time for rentals

Good on you for kicking the 407. I'm sitting at about $450/month, seems every time I try to cut back, my bill goes higher.

I'm fortunate that I have the ability to chose. What sucks is the last 5 km when heading into work or the first 5 when heading home.

Meant to ask: Was that you that saw me riding on the snow on 407 a winter or two ago?
