Who's still riding? (Fall 2016 / Winter 2017 edition)

Riding a motorbike in cold weather makes about as much sense as driving a hot rod on the 401. People do it anyway.

I don't understand the sentiment you are expressing above.

Is what you are trying to say is that you disfavour riding in the cold for some reason? Is the reason the lack of bugs on your faceshield? The lack of sweat running down your back? The increased power in cold air is scary for you? Or that your hands get cold standing around at Timmies?

Is there some reason I have missed? Please share!

:)

10 degrees isn't "cold" to me. On a sunny day in February with light winds, when one is acclimated to much colder conditions, it feels downright balmy to me.

Hey Tom, BTW, I'm thinking about Port as a possible destination Sunday. Let me know if you're free for coffee. I'm not a member of the Timmies Angels, but I've occasionally blended into the crowd there and snuck in for a beverage at point B. ;)

That you call it a sentiment is a step in the right direction. I also wouldn't surf in a wet suit or go ice fishing. Two more sentiments right there.

The warmer temperatures and melting snow has me more worried about sediment, but I'm not here to take sides. Both can be just as slippery.

I never understood why someone would want to fish for ice.

I used to do a lot of windsurfing in a wetsuit. If I didn't use the wet-suit I probably wouldn't have done much windsurfing unless it was in the mid 70's or higher (above 24°c) as the windchill really sucks the heat out of you.

Since I could walk to the Port Timmies in less than 5 min I would much rather meet somewhere else if I was riding. Bobcaygeon perhaps. I won't know until the morning when I can get out. I am at the auto show all day Monday so might have somethings I need to do at home. Let me know if you are there though.(Send a PM)

I'm going to stand by my original assertion, I mean sentiment. Saw a guy on a 1000 V Strom today. It didn't give off that first warm day of spring vibe. I think that explains why the rodeo never comes 'round in winter.

I will be out tomorrow in that beautiful +10 degrees, would love to meet up with anyone and go for a ride. Been too long since I rode with someone! Any rides going on? I'll check back tonight and in the morning.

I think I'm going to skip tomorrow and do some car maintenance instead. Despite the temps it is supposed to be windy with gusts up to 50K through the day. Sunday on the other hand is calm winds, sunny, and warm.

i will be out for a ride saturday. if you ride a sled its not cold to ride on a day when its 10c
Thats right, i once saw someone on here say "nothing can prepare you for riding a motorcycle in the winter", then a couple posts later someone posted a snowmobiling pic. Properly geared, you feel about the same temperature. I've got long-johns with lined pants, thin thermal shirt, sweater, riding jacket, thin balaclava, good helmet, good boots, and either Icons or my winter moto gloves. And I guarantee I'll be removing some of those before it hits the projected +14!!

I agree, and I used to be a sledder so I understand.

Thing is I just don't want to dress in snowmobile gear to ride my motorcycle. It's the wind that is going to suck today despite the temps.

I'll play it by ear. Who knows, I might be tempted regardless. ;)

Bah!

It was a nice relaxing ride into work this morning. -3 when i left home, -1 80 km later when I got to work.

I'm sure the ride home tonight will be even nicer!

It is so nice out there, but then all the piled up snow are melting, making the road wet with slushy snow....not sure if it is a good day to ride

My daughter and I just got back from the stable and I noticed this as well - all the little piles and ridges along the roads, turn lanes, curbs etc etc are melting like crazy and streaming across the road.

Tomorrow for me as well, methinks. Most of that crap will be gone.

This is fantastic news. Riding in those conditions is no big deal, how much more evidence do people need? I never understood why a thread was created to call out the uniqueness of winter riding. Just because only one or two people are doing it doesn't make it special. It just means other riders are wimps or old or something.
