Who's still riding? (Fall 2016 / Winter 2017 edition)

Both of ours are sleeping now, and yeah...the forecast for the next few weeks at least would suggest they're going to stay that way.

Did an oil/filter change on both bikes yesterday. Parked them in their winter spots and covered em. This is probably the earliest I've ever put them to bed in over a decade. :(

Looking grim

Coming up on 2 weeks since I've had my bike out. I think that's the longest stretch since January this year I haven't rode.

They're calling for 15CM of snow overnight Sunday into Monday here...given as how they like to overkill on the salt out this way I think that puts the nail in the coffin for 2016, especially given the temperatures forecasted beyond Tuesday.

Just looked in last years Who's Still Riding thread from exactly 1 year ago today...it was 12 degrees out and everyone was posting pictures of them out riding. Someone complained they were too warm in their gear.

chicken feed for the electric folks

I'm on partial heated for hands, core is never an issue, leaks around visor are bitter and I don't have a foot solution but below zero it's ice and traction that concern me ....wtf is the point.

exactly my thoughts every time I see someone reply with yoquote

I agreed to ride a friend's new bike back to his today, not really loving the -12 I saw this am. Almost tempted to pull out the trailer but it is less than 20 kms.

Holy **** I don't know how you all do this.

I hear you on the heated gear, but Yodude is actually talking about the people on ebikes. Why? Who knows?

So much for "electrics"

Oddly I use that same yellow Icon jacket for rain and warmth tho mostly the Scott these days.
I only did that kind of snow once in university ....even the QEW to Fort Erie was closed ....dropped the bike a dozen times ....no studs..Honda 305 Hawk started every time. 4 hours and 60 km later got home on the back roads and perhaps a couple of farmer fields ....hard to tell.

But not at -30 and days on end - tho we rode all winter - it was short distances.

part two follows on.....last part of the first clip getting scared as night falls a long ways from anywhere hits home. 144 north of Sudbury at night ....some scary memories of that road both mcycle ( no lights ) and in my Capri with no snow tires in winter and snowing like crazy. Was close to panic in that case....such tough concentration to follow one faint set of tracks.
There were no lights....the road had recently been built and only one way point that closed at 10 pm.
Oddly what kept my head together was finding a CBC sitcom at the very far end of the FM dial - settled me right down. Peering into that snow was mesmerizing and easy to lose concentration....no cold weather gear...off the road there would have been a catastrophe. The last part of part one brought all those memories of being scared back.

The second incident the lights on the RD400 blew about 80 km north of Sudbury ....no place to pull off ...just better to keep going ....ghosted behind a car with only one signal light lit - he must have wondered what this orange light that was following him was all about.
First street light on the outskirts of Sudbury was a welcome sight.
That wasn't a scary situation ....but certainly a very lonely road....was lucky to find a car that time of night then.

Kudos to the rider in the video and thanks to the poster on the Strom site.

Have to put the carb back together on the 250 today, then I'm going for a ride to make sure it all works properly. It's -8 up here in the big O today. Roads are dry.

bend a coat hanger as a frame to get it off the lever....don't know about fit over the handguards - they might

They work great with handguards, but even if you don't have guards you can just punch a hole through and zip tie them to the bar end so they can't be pushed back. They're kind of rigid all by themselves. The stiff ring around the wrist is a good idea so that they don't collapse in the wind if you need to pull your hand out to adjust your visor at speed. I did unstitch a bit to make more room to operate the switches.

Interesting. Might be worth a punt then. Those hippo hands always look dorky but I know they work well.

I couldn't ride with my buds yesterday in Brantford. But they had a great time as usual.
