Longtime friend of Darcy Allan Sheppard, Brian Harris is seen sitting on Bloor St. near University Ave. during a protest held by Toronto cyclists after Sheppard was fatally wounded in an altercation with a driver.
PAWEL DWULIT / TORONTO STAR

Former Ontario attorney general Michael Bryant has been charged with criminal negligence causing death after a 33-year-old cyclist was struck and killed last night.
He was also charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.
Friends identified the victim as bicycle courier Darcy Allan Sheppard, father of three.
Bryant, 43, spent the night and morning in custody. He stared straight ahead as he left the Traffic Services police station at about 2:30 p.m. today, amid the flash of cameras and buzz of reporters' questions.

Not sure what is mean't by posting this but Bryant was let go because of video proof that the biker was attacking him. He was being assaulted. Edit, i should say he was attempting and held on to the car.....

There was also other videos and photos of that same biker attaching other drivers trying to punch people through their windshield and hanging on to cars and such.He was reported before for his violence.

I saw them on various TV stations at the time of the incident. Not condoning anything just wondering the point of the original post was..and not to be argumentative about it, just wondering.
As someone who rides their bike downtown i was quite interested in the case.
Obviously no death is good so im not saying im happy with Bryants actions....

Involved in a serious incident facing charges, would you speak to a lawyer??

That's fine to contact a lawyer but the problem is police are affording themselves comforts their NOT affording the public. They get to contact a lawyer without the duress of being put in a cell , interrogated ,strip searched , threatened, and possibly assaulted and battered ...

Sorry about that. There were several posts suggesting the former AG had a significant delay before being formally arrested and charged.

And that sommehow translates that the cop involved in this occurence would obviously be provided the same courtesy.

I was just clarifying (poorly) the former AG was charged and made his court appearence the next day.

So, please ignor. It was too far off topic and should never have posted to begin with.

Carry on folks.

The public gets the exact same comforts if they are not arrested and only being interviewed.

You are comparing being arrested and being questioned....two different things.

Sure but things the police are getting interviewed for, and possibly not at all after they decide to hide behind to union and lawyer up, someone from the public would be arrested ,and subject to what i mentioned before, and therefore affording themselves comforts not available to the public..

The interview is to try and figure out what happened, its part of an investigation.

If there are reasonable grounds you are arrested, either with or without an interview.

No different, either way.

Not sure what you are referring to with hiding behind the union.

Sorry I'm having a hard time keeping up.... so there has been a report out saying the cop involved will not talk to the SIU? I assume nothing on the rider yet?

Did I get this right? Were these presented as facts or just suggestions still?

If the cop doesn't speak with the SIU, could he make it harder for them to find the rider? Could this be seen as obstruction of justice?

I think it is just suggestion. Things went off topic here for a bit.

SIU is not investigating the riders actions as much as the officers actions.

The actual investigation of finding the rider is still a police investigation. Although they would be working parallel.

Yep. I wouldn't spend days colluding with my friends to ensure we have the least incriminating story concocted to protect ourselves but yes, I'd talk with a lawyer.

My 2 cents on this...

As picked up on a google search from a Connecticut newspaper... have a look at the 2nd last line...

"Authorities say a Durham officer, in a marked cruiser, was following a motorcycle on Highway 401, where Ioana Bocunescu was a passenger.
They said the officer signaled to the driver to pull over but instead of stopping, he took off.
As the bike accelerated, Bocunescu fell off and was struck by several vehicles.
Authorities say the driver of the motorcycle and none of the vehicles that struck Bocunescu stopped.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are conducting an investigation into whether the officer committed any criminal offenses.
It is believed that the driver of the motorcycle is still at large"
